Chapter 161

William Lee’s Townhome
Bologna, Italy

“Mother!” Lula called out in French before pushing through the doors of the huge room, stealing Evie’s attention. “Will you lace me up?” she asked, the doors swinging shut behind her.

Evie gave her daughter a look then waved her over to the far side of the room where she was getting ready. “Oui. I thought you were wearing a suit and acting as security?” she said, helping her daughter lace up the back of her dress.

“I was until Father had to guilt me into wearing a dress,” Lula grumbled.

Evie chuckled, shaking her head.

Murai rather enjoyed it when his family got all dressed up for events together. It was one of the things Evie finds much amusement in when it came to her husband and the little thing that brought him happiness.

“William designed this one, did he not?” Evie asked, noticing the back of the dress had two hidden pockets that were holding two compact Springfield XDs .45 caliber handguns.

Lula blushed. “Of course. William loves it when his woman is armed, and his warped sense of romance and fashion is romantic in a way.”

“Men are fools when it comes to what is in front of them,” Evie agreed. “Your father thought he could do that, design functional clothing.”

Lula smirked. “Your shoes?”

“Why else would I wear heels this tall? Your father,” she said, making a face. “Global positioning trackers in each sole and pullout picks in the heels. That is why they are over 190 millimeter.”

Lula snorted. “I swear, Father has the strangest fetishism when it comes to his wife.”

“It helped to create three children.”

Lula shivered, making a face.

“And tell me, Daughter, how much taller are you than William?” Evie mused. “It is a family trait, just like falling into bed with your charge. It is okay to be taller and to fall in love when you least expect it.”

“Did you really try to kill Father?” Lula asked.

Evie smirked. “Many times over the years, but it always leads to the bedroom. But I suspect he finally told you kids how we met, and that is why you are pressing it now?”

Lula made a face. “Yes, and the story and your meeting was as deranged as you two are so being hired to kill him and marrying him instead only makes sense,” she said before changing the subject. “Tonight I will have my Imperial security clearance credentials on me just as the rest of the family will. That will prevent security from getting antsy about my personal arsenal. It is not as if you are not carrying in that dress. Inside thigh holster with a compact .38 and a sheath of throwing daggers on the other?”

Evie smirked. “Those are the only ones you know of,” she teased. “Great minds, my beautiful daughter, since you are wearing the same.”

Lula blushed, smirking, looking just like her mother when she did.

There was a knock at the door before it opened.

“Are you ready?” Kita started to ask, popping his head inside the room, but his words trailed away.

Pan Jin smirked. “Told you so,” she teasingly whispered, softly knocking into Rain.

Rain blushed, smoothing her dress down again. “Do I look okay?” she asked.

Kita absently nodded with a goofy smile, his eyes moving over her many times. “You look beyond beautiful, Seon Rain,” he whispered, standing back by the doors as if scared of getting any closer to her.

Evie huffed. “That is most concerning,” she commented to her daughter, watching her usually emotionless son smile and yet look terrified at the same time.

Lula nodded her agreement. “This is what I was telling you about. It is very concerning.”

“No, Sweetheart,” Evie corrected. “It is not concerning for the reasons you think. It is concerning what he will do to Suiko if the vile little Princess touches or says something to ChouChou.”

Lula groaned. “Great, now I have to change into something that will hold more weapons. There will be a great deal of bloodshed tonight.”

Evie chuckled. “Maybe, maybe not, but it shall be exciting to watch unfold,” she mused before turning serious, and forced her daughter around to face her. “And I am only going to tell you this once more, and you will heed my warning now: leave your brother and Seon Rain alone. If he wants to risk his heart, let him. It is not your place to say one way or another, it never had been.”

“But-” she started to argue when Evie pressed her finger against her daughter’s lips to silence them.

“Growing up you protected Kita from Suiko and her relentless nature,” Evie whispered. “You protected him as much as you could because you are like your mother and father; a natural born protector. But Kita is a grown man that has endured evil for years, and now he is free of the shackles your father assumed for him because he was his eldest son. Do not get between your brother’s heart and the one he wants to give it to. You are no longer the protector of his heart, he is. Do you understand?”

Lula pulled away from her, glaring.

“You may be younger and faster, Daughter, but I will always be more heavily armed,” Evie warned with a smirk.

Lula made a face before laughing. “Death threat aside, Mother, I will attempt it. But I will protect my annoying brothers, even if it is just from needless heartache.”

Evie caressed Lula’s cheek. “Not this time, Sweetheart. This time, your brother needs to experience it on his own, regardless of how it ends. And if you interfere, you will be grounded and I will get your passports, all of them, even the ones you do not think I know about, flagged and you will be on the top of Interpol’s most wanted list.” She smiled wide.

“Ugh!” Lula complained, throwing her hands up in the air in frustration. “I hate you sometimes,” she whined.

Evie patted Lula’s cheek. “You only hate me because I am always three steps ahead of everyone, even you.”

There was no question of where Lula got it from, and it wouldn’t end well for Seon Rain when Lula defied Evie’s orders.
