Chapter 181
Seoul, Korea
Snowdrop Suite
Kita sat on the couch, his eyes were closed and he had a small smile on his face. Curled up next to him, softly purring in her sleep, was Rain; her hand was resting on his chest over his heart, his hand was on top of hers, keeping it there. His other arm was wrapped around her, holding Rain tight against him, his other hand resting on her backside.
When they returned from the theater, Rain danced around the kitchen and made Mauri and Kita eat the hangover snack trays she had prepared them then got some broth in both of them to prevent getting hangovers, if at all possible.
Mauri retired to his suite with his wife which was one floor up, and Kita and Rain flopped down on the couch and fell asleep before the others even got there.
Chairman Hu was with Pan Jin and Dae-Ho, having tea at the table in the dining room. They were speaking in whispers so not to wake the others.
Pan Jin told them about her life and where she came from, what her mother had done to her and what little she told her of Pan Jin’s father.
They wanted Rain to be part of the discussion, but she was too drunk to do anything other than say ’Welcome to the family!’ before she passed back out on the couch, using Kita as a pillow.
Will confirmed that the police had their monster of a mother in custody, and he rather enjoyed her tenth mugshot that is now in the system because of it. Lula crawled into Will’s bed and forced him to put the gadgets and computers away and come to bed.
Lucien was catching a nap before he went out again, doing what the Driver did best aside from driving.
Recon.
“I am so sorry. This will be a problem for Myo Mi-Sun,” Pan Jin said, keeping her voice down. “It is a scandal in the making. My mother, our mother,” she said, motioning between her and Dae-Ho, “will make sure of it. She’ll sell the story to the highest bidder. We all know who that will be.”
Chairman Hu nodded. “Ong Se-Ri has been quiet as of late because she hasn’t had anything to run on Myo Mi-Sun. But she will take much pleasure in releasing this story and ruining your life. It won’t hurt your sister’s career as much as it will break her heart to have you in the media spotlight now.”
That was why Lula didn’t want Lucien looking into their paternity more because it wasn’t as simple as uniting a family. She wasn’t stupid or blind to the family resemblance between Rain, Pan Jin and Dae-Ho. Fate was the only explanation as to how they crossed paths, but it was a path Kita made sure Rain took again in order to be certain.
It annoyed Lula that Kita kept everything to himself, and she hated that he knew things before she did. That wasn’t acceptable, she was Oversight, but she was too mentally exhausted to even attempt to deal with it at the moment.
Tomorrow was another day, so she’d tackle it then.
“Little Sister, I hate to say it,” Dae-Ho started, “but your life is over as you knew it. Dad’s right. They’ll target you, not Rain.”
Pan Jin shook her head. “I’m the same person I was before I knew the truth,” she argued. “The girls at school were always horrible to me. They became even more vicious when I got the job and was photographed and was on video with Myo Mi-Sun. They bullied me even more, but I dealt with it by ignoring them. They couldn’t compare with the abuse from my mother so it was easily ignored.”
An amused snort pulled their attention to the couch.
“You will require an armed guard when you return to school,” Kita said without bothering to open his eyes. “Once those vile teenagers see you on the red carpet dressed up, and see the pictures and videos from the vacation with Myo Mi-Sun, William Lee, Tae-il and Prince Riku of the Imperial Family, the bullying will increase exponentially.”
Softly Rain groaned, nuzzling against the side of Kita’s neck. “You have my blessing to shoot them all. Bullying my baby sister like that is worthy of death,” she mumbled then smiled when he softly swatted her backside.
Dae-Ho chuckled, shaking his head. “They do that when together, Dad,” he said, running interference for his cousin. “But I have to agree with Kita on this one. That school is too far away anyway. I’m sure Will already has attorneys working on the paperwork for a change in guardianship. Since Cousin hasn’t picked a new house yet, or even looked at real estate, Little Sister and I can take care of that.”
Chairman Hu shook his head; he wished it was that easy.
“I have no blood-tie to Pan Jin, Son,” he reminded him. “The courts will require a blood relative to take guardianship. You don’t have the assets or means they would require to take on that type of responsibility.”
The three looked to the couch.
The one that the courts would grant guardianship to, if they were lucky, was drunk and softly purring in her sleep in the arms of her bodyguard.
“I can’t ask her to do that,” Pan Jin said. “I’ll be okay. It’s just a few more weeks in this school year then I’ll figure out my last year before it starts in September. I don’t attend a agwon-”
“Do you want that type of higher education prepping?” Chairman Hu asked.
Pan Jin shrugged. “I won’t get into the university. I don’t have the money, would never accept anyone’s money for it because I want to earn being there-”
“She is as stubborn as Cousin,” Dae-Ho interrupted with a smile. “Twins, they truly are twins.”
It was a nice thought, but they were virtually strangers.
“I’ll figure it out,” Pan Jin promised, looking to the couch, and she fought the tears flooding her eyes.
There was only one way this would end, and it would be heartache for all those involved.
She just knew it.
