Chapter 195

Seoul, Korea
University Hospital of Seoul

Evie and Mauri were escorted to ICU (Intensive Care Unit) once Lucien was out of surgery.

Lula wat sitting on the floor with Will in the surgery theater, recovering from the excessive blood loss from over donating.

Dae-Ho and Pain Jin were using Tae-il’s lap as a pillow, a head on each thigh. Yang Sun was curled up sleeping with them, Pan Jin’s arms around her; her mother asked that the young girl stay with Pan Jin until new living arrangements were made. Rain was sitting by herself in the corner, trying to stay awake, her attention on Kita.

They gave more blood than they should have, more than the phlebotomist said they could take, but the three were persistent that they take a little more.

The blood drive overwhelmed blood banks, and the UN brought in mobile units to help with the influx of donors. The same type of response happened in Japan, but that was by royal order that every citizen capable of donating was asked to, and all those with the rare AB blood type were required to. The blood Lucien could use was sent to Seoul care of a private jet.

“Kitty,” Lula whispered, her eyes closing. “Breathe. Kitty, just breathe,” she pleaded.

Kita’s attention was on the room below and the techs that were cleaning up from the surgery; blood was all over the white floor, equipment was scattered about now that the gurney was gone, and three bio-waste bins were overflowing with empty blood bags, blood-soaked gauze, and other waste.

Simply because Lucien was out of surgery didn’t mean he was out of the woods. He could still die, and most likely will.

This isn’t what Kita wanted for his baby brother. It wasn’t what Lucien wanted either. All Lucien wanted was to be free and have fun; life was an adventure he never grew tired of, regardless of the job that helped to fund it.

The entire reason Lucien was in Seoul was because of the job, a job he didn’t even want to do.

“Kita Amon Mamoru Yasuhiro,” Lula said, stealing his attention.

Only when needed was their full names used.

Lula met his bloodshot eyes. “Go to her,” she said, looking to the corner where Rain was slumped against.

Kita wanted to be as far away from Seon Rain as possible. If it weren’t for her and the job, his baby brother wouldn’t have been nearly killed, wouldn’t have been blown up!

But Kita couldn’t hate her in the least.

It was a job.

With a job there is risk.

They all knew it.

But it doesn’t make it easier when it’s his baby brother that is fighting for his life, and fighting Death that was originally coming for the client.

Truth is, if it weren’t for Seon Rain, Pan Jin and Dae-Ho, Lucien would be dead.

They coordinated for blood donations so quickly and on such a large scale that the hospital now has a surplus of the rare blood type, more than enough if Lucien’s internal bleeding resumes. The other types would be taken to medical centers across the country so no one was in short supply.

Kita took a couple of deep breaths to calm himself before heading across the room. He squatted down and tenderly caressed Rain’s hair back from her cheeks, causing her eyes to snap open. “You need to eat and rest,” he said, pulling her into his arms.

“You hate me, don’t you?” she whispered.

“You saved my baby brother,” Kita reminded her. “Why would I hate you after you have done that?”

Rain wiped her eyes on the back of her hand. “But this is my fault. He was hurt because of me,” she hiccupped.

Kita shrugged, carrying her from the room and to the private wing that has been reserved for them. “Lucien has nearly died many times, just usually not on the job. There was a parachute failure in Argentina that broke his legs and perforated his liver. That was on holiday, not on the job.”

Her eyes widened. “Really? You aren’t just saying that?”

Kita shook his head. “No. There is a reason I do not like jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. And Lucien and his failure to properly pack his parachute is that reason.”

Rain wrapped her arms around his neck. “You should have told me your reason and I wouldn’t have done it while on vacation.”

“Then you would not have jumped,” he said. “What kind of man would I be if I denied you the pleasure of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane? It was something you wanted to experience, and you experienced it with me and my baby brother and your baby sister. Denying you that experience would not have been fair to you.”

Rain nodded, tears staining her cheeks. “It’s silly that you agreed to jump out of a plane with me strapped to your chest, but you won’t entertain me with a TikTok challenge.”

“The futility of only using a foot to remove the cap from a bottle makes less sense than jumping out of a perfectly good plane,” he retorted, trying to keep her from crying more than she already has.

“It is a goal of mine,” she sniveled, well aware of what he was doing and why.

But she appreciated it.

Distracting Kita with the inconsequential would keep him from dropping her and ending it.

“Uh huh. You and your family saved my brother’s life,” Kita continued, taking his time carrying Rain to the seventh floor care of the stairs. “Without being prompted, you three coordinated a blood drive that will save so many lives, in Korea and Japan. That overshadows the attempt on my baby brother’s life, which was actually an attempt on your baby sister’s life, I fear.”

Rain sighed and rested her head against his and held onto him even tighter. “I’m scared now.”

“You were not before?” he asked.

She shook her head. “For Cousin and Uncle, but not myself. Now I’m terrified for Sister, Cousin, Uncle, you and your family, Will, even Tae-il and Riku… Did the Emperor tell his son?” she asked, pulling back to look at him. “He loves your brother and needs to be notified if he hasn’t already.”

“I do not know if his father told him or not,” he admitted. “If he did not, I will because you asked in such an overbearing way.”

Rain gasped and softly smacked him in the chest, causing him to smile slightly.

It was just a little smile, but it was enough that it caused her heart to race.

“You are ridiculous,” she scolded. “I am not being overbearing or demanding in the least. I just… It’s just I’d want to know if something happened to you before I heard about it on the news. That’s all.”

Kita nodded his understanding. “You are my next of kin so it is safe to assume you would be notified right away,” he said.

“That isn’t the point, and you know it.”

“I know, and I actually hate how much I like that about you,” he admitted before caressing her lips with his. “Now stop making me do the adult thing when it pertains to the Imperial Family and my baby brother’s heart, otherwise you will be put in timeout.”

Rain smiled wide. “Naked timeout?”

“No Kita timeout,” he corrected and she pouted, causing him to smirk.
