Chapter 74

Seoul, Korea
Snowdrop Suite

“Did you really have to break his jaw?” Will asked, his fingers typing away on his laptop from the floor.

Lula glared at him. “Why are you not across the hall, Stalker?”

Will smooched his lips, sending her a single-sided kiss. “It’s the Lilac Suite, not the Stalker Suite,” he reminded her. “Purple lilacs represent the beginning of love or a first love. Hint. Hint.”

Lucien wasn’t amused. “You need to stop assaulting him,” he scolded. “If Mother hears you broke his jaw again, you shouldn’t be surprised if we’re sequestered. Why are you two fighting this time?”

“Same reason you are fighting with him,” she said as if it were obvious. “Kita has been compromised. His repeated lapses in judgement put into question his ability to do the job we were hired to do-”

“Kita isn’t you, Lula,” Will interrupted. “Don’t treat him as if he is.”

Lula glared at him. “Get out of my suite.”

Dae-Ho joined them from his room; he had to make a call or two. “Will is my guest, thus he can stay as long as he likes,” he said and Will smiled wide. “Also, how is your big brother compromised? What has he done that’s prevented him, or will prevent him, from protecting my cousin?” he rhetorically asked.

They didn’t say anything.

“If you hadn’t noticed,” Dae-Ho started, sitting on the floor between Lucien and Will, “Rain is different. She requires a unique touch, someone that seemingly reads her, and understands her when she doesn’t understand herself to help keep her together. Never, and I mean ever, has Rain raised her voice or scolded someone. And yet she scolded you, someone she’s terrified of and respects, for hurting her bodyguard. Bravo for that.”

Lula rolled her eyes.

“Has Kita fallen for Rain?” Dae-Ho asked. “Maybe. Maybe not? I’m sure you’ve noticed how easy it can be to fall for someone like Rain, for Myo Mi-Sun even, but as you’ve discovered it’s impossible to actually love her. It’s like she’s cursed. Everyone loves her, and because of that they long to use her, to ruin her, and to do everything in their power to hurt her. Why? I don’t know. I think that’s all she’s expecting in life though and that’s why it doesn’t faze her. Rain’s parents weren’t the greatest in the world. They drank, fought, and her father wasn’t exactly a standup guy. I think that’s what she expects in life when it pertains to men and relationships.” He wiped his eyes on the back of his hand.

Lucien looked to his sister. “That wasn’t in your dossier,” he said.

“How would it be prudent?” she retorted.

“Obviously it is if you feel as if our brother is compromised,” Lucien pointed out. “I enjoy giving him grief, but I’m not reporting back to Mother. I just say I am. Have you been doing that?”

Lula looked away from him.

“Rude, much?” Lucien scoffed. “I only use Mother as a threat in order to get a rise out of him, never would I actually do it! You are truly evil and bored, aren’t you? You’re the one wanted us sequestered to the hotel for these two weeks, and yet you’re bored after one,” he pointed out.

Will, sensing another fight was going to start, stepped in. “Dae-Ho, do you want to go to the salon with us tomorrow? I want to do something different with my hair. I haven’t gone to a red carpet event before and I most likely won’t again so I want to make it memorable.”

Dae-Ho chuckled. “Flirting with me when the woman you’re in love with is in the room is really weird. But yes, of course I want to go to the salon with you all. I need to get my nails done and I think it’s time to give the platinum some color. But, as valiant as your attempt was, the elephant is still in the room. You need to stop flipping Kita crap about what you perceive as his feelings towards his charge. Rain is a people person that causes the walls people struggle their entire lives to build and reinforce to effortlessly fall. Have you met anyone, outside of a select few, that have anything bad to say about Myo Mi-Sun?”

Other than jealousy fueled words and reporters, they hadn’t.

“But you needn’t worry about your brother,” Dae-Ho confidently told them.

“Why is that?” Lula reluctantly asked.

He sighed. “Even if Kita does fall for Seon Rain, she’d never love him in return. It isn’t possible for her to love someone like that. It’s what makes Myo Mi-Sun the amazing actress she is when it comes to romances. Everything she needs of a romantic nature she gets through the roles she plays.”

“Why do you say that?” she asked.

“Rain’s too scared of being loved because she doesn’t know what love should actually look like,” Dae-Ho offered. “My mother abandoning us didn’t help any either, I suppose, and Gang Moon only proved.”

Lucien gave him a look. “What do you mean? Myo Mi-Sun is the queen of Rom-Coms. If anything, statistically speaking, those in romances tend to have unrealistic expectations of love and romance,” he pointed out.

Dae-Ho nodded his agreement. “Yes, but not in this case. Rain doesn’t know what real romance or love actually looks like,” he tried to explain, making a face. “She’s not stupid. Rain knows what Myo Mi-Sun plays on screen isn’t real and she doesn’t expect to find that outside of movies and television. So calm down about your big brother falling into bed or love with his charge. Rain would never allow him to do that.”

“Why is that?” Lula asked with much reluctance.

This was worse than she thought.

Dae-Ho, wiped away the tear that rolled down his cheek. “Rain is too terrified of real love because that’s all she knows. Thank her parents and my mother for that,” he said.
