Chapter 56

Seoul, Korea
Private Runway

“There’s my favorite Frenchmen!” Will said. “Though I was hoping for my favorite French lady.”

Lucien chuckled and kissed him on each cheek before taking his luggage for him. “My sister is no lady,” he reminded him.

“Minor details, but she’s still my favorite of the lot of them.”

“Uh huh. I’ll make sure to tell her that when you get on my bad side. Thank you for coming as quickly as you did… You look like crap,” Lucien said.

Will lowered his glasses and looked at him, his blue eyes were slightly bloodshot and the dark circles under them were slightly gray in pallor. “You’re welcome, and I know. The annoying reporter that is the bane of Lula’s planning and operational oversight of this contract proved to be trickier than I initially gave her credit for. I went to take a piss and came back to the article being posted via mobile phone that’s most likely a burner since I corrupted the operating system, temporarily, on the other. I missed that one. My bad,” he said, making a face.

Lucien nodded his understanding and got the door for him. “Sit and I’ll get these situated in the trunk. I would have picked you up in the Maserati, but they won’t let me drive it again after I outran the police. Oops.”

He chuckled, getting in. “I’ll take care of it for you,” he promised once Lucien joined him in the sedan. “Consider it my thanks for picking me up. My Korean security detail should already be in place and they have everything I’ll need.”

“They are,” Lucien confirmed, pulling away from the private airport for those with diplomatic status. “Though, you have balls of steel and are a glutton for punishment. The suite across from ours, really? You couldn’t have picked one that was a floor above or below?”

Will smiled wide.

That was answer enough.

“Did you find anything about the interference?” Lucien asked after, changing the subject. “Was it more than just the banana milk monkey transmitting?”

Will nodded. “That’s what I wanted to talk to your sister about but she wouldn’t return my calls or texts. The eavesdropping device was exactly what your sister deduced it was. But that wasn’t what caused the interference with your implants. There was something that was trying to block that recording device.”

“Wait, what?” Lucien asked with wide eyes. “Are you serious?”

He nodded. “Different frequency that is designed to disrupt any and all signals in the vicinity. Not cheap, but easily sourced with the right connections. Because the room’s walls are insulated concrete, it contained that disruptive signal to that room. It was intermittent though, and that’s why they were able to hear what they did about Myo Mi-Sun’s impending schedule. When you walked into the room, it kicked into overdrive because of the signal power of your implants. Sorry about that. I never took that into consideration in their design-”

“You have now and you fixed the design flaw,” Lucien finished for him, and he nodded. “That’s why I’m a beta tester, isn’t it? To get all the flaws out of the system before it goes live?” he teased.

Will shrugged; he didn’t want to tell him the truth because it was too embarrassing. “Everything you provide me is invaluable, Luci, and I can never thank you enough for it.”

Lucien knew Will was keeping something from him, but he was too tired to press it at the moment. “You’ll tell me eventually,” he said.

“Most likely,” Will agreed; he couldn’t lie to Lucien because the young man was his only friend. “Coffee?”

“Sure, coffee before you face my sister sounds like a good idea,” Lucien agreed. “Remember to duck and cover your crotch.”

Will smiled wide. “I always do when Lula Yasuhiro is in the vicinity.”
