Chapter 61

Seoul, Korea
Snowdrop Suite

“Cousin, what’s wrong?” Dae-Ho asked. “This isn’t like you. You didn’t even bat an eye over this.”

“I am not that same person, Cousin. I’m growing up. And apparently it only took someone catching my house on fire and spying on me, and getting my bodyguard drunk as skunk, for that to happen. I’m strangely okay with that,” she confidently told him. “Let Uncle know that I’ll do the red carpet for the premier and not to worry about it.”

“Of course,” he said. “There’s more than just that though.”

Rain looked up from the food she was plating. “Huh?”

“You and your bodyguard were caught on camera dancing drunk,” Dae-Ho said.

Her widened and face flushed with embarrassment. “Oh no! Is he mad at me?” she asked, looking to the closed bedroom door on the other side of the suite. “Is that why he locked himself in his room?!”

Yes, that would be her concern.

“No, it was handled, in a sense,” Dae-Ho tried to explain. “I have no idea how they did it, and I didn’t know they had a hacker on speed dial, but it was taken care of. Your bodyguard’s face was replaced by someone else, someone that will be your date on the red carpet now because of it.”

“Wait… Wait… What?” she stammered. “Huh?”

He made a face. “Have you heard of William Lee?”

Rain gave him a look. “Why is that name familiar?”

“William Lee invented and holds pretty much every tech patent for the past decade, apparently,” he said.

“No!” she gasped. “The billionaire from Singapore? That William Lee?”

Dae-Ho nodded. “One in the same. You’ll be his date, or he’ll be yours. I don’t know how that works and I really don’t care. As long as you’re okay with it that’s all that matters… Are you okay with this now?”

Rain groaned. “Crap. I was but now I have a blind date with a billionaire playboy. That won’t look good for my squeaky clean reputation… Actually, no. I like it!” she said, excited. “That means I can be different and someone else for once, and dress differently, maybe wear red lipstick!” she beamed, jumping up and down with excitement. “And strappy shoes!”

He shook his head in resignation. “Red doesn’t look good with our skin tone, Cousin.”

She glared at him, throwing a piece of banana at him. “Don’t rain on my parade,” she scolded. “Especially when I’m being supportive of something that I normally would have never agreed to do. I have a date! Someone I’ve never met and have only seen on television and in tabloids, but that’s okay. If security approves of it, then I’m okay with it!” she beamed, giving him two thumbs-up but they quickly fell. “Did Kita approve this? Is he okay with it?” she asked as more of an afterthought.

Dae-Ho gave her a look. “Why would you care what your bodyguard thinks about your dating life or pretend dating life… You aren’t falling for him, are you?” he groaned.

“No!” Rain snapped at him, her attention on Kita’s door to make sure it remained closed. “Shut up. It isn’t like that. If my bodyguard doesn’t approve of my date, that could put me in danger because he’d be distracted or trying to juggle too many people to protect. Getting his opinion, since it’s his area of expertise, would be the polite thing to do in this situation. His approval is needed before agreeing to anything,” she said in a rush, wagging a scolding finger at him.

Dae-Ho shook his head. “Yup, you fell for him. Great. That’s going to end well,” he scolded.

She glared at him.

“Surprisingly, your bodyguard only used a few colorful choice words in six languages before heading to bed to die. Something about an annoyingly happy, smiling little demon armed with sake bested him and he would get his revenge. I assumed you were the little demon that bested him.”

Rain giggled, blushing. “Maybe. But in all fairness, he didn’t warn me he wasn’t a big drinker,” she said, finishing up the tray of food.

There was a big bowl of bone broth for him, a small plate with pickled spinach and radish, some Gua bao, a small bowl with grilled banana slices on a bed of jasmine rice with coconut milk and lavender honey, some warm tea, and a bottle of water.

“That should be enough,” she said, making sure she had everything for him.

Since she was the one that forced him to drink, it was her job to nurse him back to health…

In her mind.

“Call Uncle and let him know I’ll have a date for the red carpet and that I’m fine,” Rain said, kissing Dae-Ho on the head before heading to Kita’s room with the tray in hand.

Dae-Ho watched her open Kita’s door after her knock went unanswered, before disappearing inside. “If only it was just that,” he whispered.

Rain had no idea of just how dangerous this threat was, and the red carpet with a blind date would be a walk in the park compared to dealing with a second stalker that had literally burned her out of house and home.
