Chapter 31
Seoul, Korea
Snowdrop Suite
Instantly Kita’s irritation started to lessen when he saw the path of each tear that stained her cheeks. Rain hadn’t unpacked, nothing was hung in the closet, instead she made it into a cramped sleeping area with a dangling flashlight that was dimming more and more as the batteries were depleted.
“What is she doing in there?” Lucien asked when he joined his brother that was standing in front of the closet.
Kita shook his head. “I do not know. She makes no sense, and when I think she is starting to make sense I find her sleeping in the closet.”
“I’m starting to think their family is crazy,” Lucien said, pushing his hand through his disheveled hair. “You should have seen the shameless flirting coming from Dae-Ho at dinner. It was blush inducing, even for a half-Frenchmen! Did she stop trying to seduce you?” he teased.
“Seon Rain never tried to seduce me,” Kita said, closing the closet doors then turned off the lights, motioning his brother from the room. “She was on my tie the first time she ended up in my arms, and it was choking me. Of course she was trying to apologize because that is all she ever does is apologize for everything. The misunderstanding came when I lowered my head to get the tension off my tie. When she opened her mouth to apologize again, I mistook her intentions. The first time was entirely my fault,” he said, heading to the bathroom then paused. “Seon Rain is highly allergic to sesame so make sure you do not bring any into the suite,” he warned then closed the door behind him.
Lucien stood there trying to figure out what he missed and why his brother was suddenly coming to the defense of the young woman he wanted nothing to do with.
“Apparently I missed something,” he said, heading from the room, closing the door behind him. “No sesame of any kind? That makes it a bit harder to eat out… Croissants use butter, not sesame seeds or oil, and I really want a croissant. Sister, I’m heading to get breakfast,” he said, knocking on Lula’s door. “I’ll bring you up some strong coffee.”
Sometime later, the smell of warm, buttery pastries and coffee caused Rain’s stomach to grumble and pulled her from a semi-peaceful sleep. Light came through the split between the closet doors; that meant someone had been in her room and opened the curtains.
“And they covered me up with a blanket,” Rain said, sitting up. “That isn’t awkward in the least.”
Usually the only person that made the effort to tend to her was Dae-Ho when he was feeling guilty about something or did something he was going to have to apologize for.
“What did Cousin do this time?” Rain groaned, folding up the blankets and set them on the bed. “This blanket doesn’t belong,” she said, picking the out of place blanket up.
The blanket was navy.
Her bedding was white and soft grey so it didn’t come from her room.
“Cousin, you are always too good to me,” she whispered, hugging the navy blanket to her chest. “Even when in trouble. Most likely you were shamelessly flirting with Lucien when my back was turned. Did you try to get him drunk so he was much easier to seduce?” she teased with a giggle. “There is no question your middle name should have been Trouble.”
Rain started from the room, but when she walked passed the vanity she stepped back and looked at herself in the mirror.
“Oh I look like death warmed over,” she whined, trying to smooth her hair down. “Why bother trying not to look like a train wreck? I have no one to impress. There’s nothing on my schedule for another week, so why waste my time trying to impress the Yasuhiros?” she rhetorically asked. “At least I should brush my teeth. Morning breath is the worse, especially when I keep ending up in his arms.”
Rain headed over to the bathroom and opened the door without knocking and when she did the blanket in her arms fell to the floor and her eyes widened.
