Chapter 14

Seoul, Korea
Diplomat Row

Rain sat behind the driver in the backseat, her attention out the window at the speeding scenery. She was still reeling over what Uncle had done behind her back, and she was on the verge of screaming because she hadn’t a say in the matter.

Usually she’d turn to Dae-Ho for support and help since he was rather creative when it came to dealing with his father. But he was useless on the matter; Dae-Ho was swooning over the hot guys they would be getting babysat by.

Rain looked at the man in the passenger seat and it caused her face to drop; his expression was slated like stone and didn’t hint that he knew how to smile or laugh. There was something unique and beautiful about him, but his personality, that she could tell, sucked.

“You are staring again,” Kita said without turning to regard her.

Instantly Rain looked away from him to hide her rapidly reddening face. “Sorry,” she mumbled under her breath.

Calling the Yasuhiro siblings gorgeous was a grave misuse of the word.

They looked a lot alike, their features striking for Korea, but there were enough differences between them that it made each completely unique in their own way.

Lucien and Lula looked as if they were twins, which was expected since they were, and Kita had stronger French features in Rain’s opinion despite his Japanese name. His hair was black but Lucien and Lula had dark brown and matching freckles, and all three had the same hazel-green eyes.

Rain thought it was amusing that her uncle thought the three would somehow be able to protect her from whatever the threat he felt was out there. But, in her experience, there was no way they would blend into the crowd or the background as Lula assured Rain they’d do. They were tall and beautiful, each could easily be a model or movie star in her professional opinion, and they carried themselves with a sense of pride and importance unlike anything Rain had ever seen before.

As she sat in Chairman Hu’s office listening to Lula tell them what they were going to be doing, more and more of Rain’s self-esteem crumbled. She didn’t speak with conviction like Lula effortlessly did, or articulate her position as eloquently as Lucien did. Hell, she didn’t even command an audience with merely her presence like Kita did.

Truth was, she was intimidated by all of them.

The two were being relocated from Chairman Hu’s home to a secure location that they weren’t privy to. Dae-Ho and Lula would handle her schedule, and Lucien would take over transportation needs and act as a concierge for whatever they needed. And Kita was her personal protection agent, as he called it after one too many Dae-Ho flirting attempts about protecting his body.

“You okay?” Dae-Ho asked when he noticed Rain wiping away a tear.

She forced a smile before turning to face him. “Of course. This will be an adventure of a lifetime!” she beamed before giving him two enthusiastic thumbs up. “And once Uncle discovers that no one is after me, and that he was being overly cautious again, our new friends can head back to wherever they came from and everything will go back to normal.”

Dae-Ho gave her a look. “Have you been drinking soju when my back is turned?” he asked.

Rain smacked him so he smacked her back…

Rather, he attempted to.

Before Dae-Ho could make contact, a large hand caught his wrist and pulled his hand away from his cousin.

“Do not do that again,” Kita warned, flinging Dae-Ho’s hand away from Rain.

Lula sighed from the other side of the backseat. “Brother, they are family thus they are permitted to smack each other around in a playful manner. Hu Dae-Ho is not the enemy.”

Kita turned his attention out the windshield from the front passenger seat, ignoring his sister.

“Never mind him,” Lula said. “His last assignment required no touching of any kind, thus it will take some effort for him to adjust-”

“That is enough!” Kita snapped at her, causing Rain to jump, startled. “Mind your manners, Sister, otherwise you will be headed home alone.”

If Lula was worried over the threat or intimidated by him, she didn’t show it.

“I welcome your attempt at getting me on the plane, Brother,” Lula said with a smirk. “But I cannot promise a flesh wound or two won’t be involved.”

Kita snorted. “Not a plane, rather a jet with a familiar face and questionable pajamas eagerly waiting to whisk you away,” he retorted, causing Lula to glare at him.

Lucien chuckled from the driver’s seat. “It is like Venice all over again,” he commented. “Never mind them. They never agree on anything, but when they are working together we are the best at what we do. It is in our genetics.”

Dae-Ho sighed and started fanning himself. “Could you get any hotter if you tried?”

Lucien blushed but didn’t any anything.

Rain forced a smile; Lucien she didn’t mind and thought he was sweet. “Thank you all for doing this, regardless of how short our time together will prove to be,” she humbly said with a slight bow of the head.

Kita rolled his eyes and turned his attention to the traffic his baby brother was weaving in and out of.

Fighting with his pesky little sister in front of the client was the last thing Kita wanted to do. Lula was speaking of things she shouldn’t be, and sharing more than he’d like with the annoying young woman he was commissioned with protecting.

This assignment wouldn’t be the cake gig his little sister said it’d be.

Instead, it was starting exactly how he feared it would and he wasn’t in the mood to deal with a flirting young woman that couldn’t take no for an answer…

Especially one that tried to kiss him already!

History was going to repeat itself, Kita just knew it, but he would fight back this time. He wouldn’t let a silly little girl beat him and cost him everything again.
