Chapter 13
Seoul, Korea
NuStarr Talent Management
Dae-Ho sat there looking between the tall woman standing there and his cousin that was curled up on the other end of the couch, hugging her knees to her chest.
Something happened, he just didn’t know what exactly.
“So, let me get this straight,” Dae-Ho started. “You’re Cousin’s new, ball-breaking bodyguard, and you already caused her to have a mental breakdown?” he asked. “That doesn’t seem very healthy, in any sense, not just the lack of professional sense.”
Rain sniveled, shaking her head, wiping her eyes on the back of her hand. “It wasn’t her, it was her brother.”
“Wait, there’s a brother?!” Dae-Ho asked with a smile. “Where is he? We have a very strict interviewing process where he has to strip down so I can confirm he’s adequately equipped to protect me, I mean us, I mean Myo Mi-Sun.”
Lula cocked an eyebrow. “There are two brothers,” she said. “Kita will take point protection as Seon Rain’s personal Guardian, her bodyguard. You, will be in the care of my baby brother, Lucien, who will act as the Driver.”
Dae-Ho nodded. “I need to see pictures and to smell them in person. We had a few questionable interviewees that smelled heavily of braised dog meat and pickled cabbage, and I want to spare Cousin and my senses from that.”
Surprisingly enough, Lula was prepared for Dae-Ho’s antics.
The young man was rather full of himself, and had a onetime promising career as a model and actor himself, but bowed out from the spotlight in order to be his cousin’s assistant. Lula knew there was a story there, but it wasn’t prudent to the assignment so she didn’t make further inquiry into Hu Dae-Ho.
“Regardless of what our superior genetics, as our mother would say, suggests, we are much older than you both,” Lula explained. “Thus you will not get the raise out of me that you are looking for.”
“40 of 45, huh?” Dae-Ho surmised with a smirk.
Lula glared at him. “30.”
“Oh, so the superior genetics must be in the personality department,” he said, amused. “Germans do have rather intense and domineering personalities.”
“French-Japanese,” Lula corrected before she caught herself. “Very funny,” she conceded and he winked. “You are a credit to your age and position in your cousin’s life. Not many have caused my guard to slip in such a way. I greatly underestimated you.”
Dae-Ho nodded. “You did. Cousin needs protected, that we can all agree on… She doesn’t agree, she wants to retire, but she’ll just have to get over it. Since you’re here I’m assuming you will be the one I am coordinating scheduling with when it comes to Myo Mi-Sun’s schedule.”
Lula nodded.
“In order to do that we have to have a mutual level of understanding, without misconceptions on either side,” he continued, sounding just like his father when in heated business negotiations. “I know your client better than she knows herself most of the time. When I tell you no to something, you listen. When I tell or warn you of her mental or emotional well-being, you listen. There are certain things Cousin will not shy away from, and her fans is one of them. With that said, most likely it’s a fan that’s trying to kill her.”
Rain looked at him with wide eyes. “What?” she asked, dumbfounded.
“See?” Dae-Ho said, motioning towards his stunned cousin. “She didn’t even take that into consideration. There are certain things that we’ve kept from the public, things that would be detrimental to her career, and they must continue to stay hidden from the public.”
Lula nodded her understanding and acceptance. “The same courtesy is requested of you,” she said. “There are things, past clients that we do not speak of for obvious reasons, that we pull experiences from which will help with the current assignment. If we tell you to do something in the field, do not question it. There is a reason for everything we do, just as there is a reason for everything you do to protect your cousin. Do we have an understanding?”
Dae-Ho nodded. “Of course. Keeping Seon Rain safe has always been my top concern. I still want to see your brothers naked though.”
“I would be greatly disappointed to hear otherwise,” Lula retorted, causing him to smirk. “You both will be relocated to a protected location until this threat has been resolved. Once situated, you and I will go over Myo Mi-Sun’s impending schedule as far in advance as possible in order to properly address all security concerns. If there is any type of need we must address, let us know right away. Do you understand?”
Rain raised her hand. “If I am going to be stuck with you and your brothers, if you are going to be controlling every aspect of my life until you think the threat is taken care of and I am no longer a target, I will not be spoken of as if I am not in the room!” she snapped at her.
Lula softly snorted; perhaps there was a bit of a backbone in Korea’s Sweetheart after all. “Are you going to offer anything to the discussion?” she asked. “There is no reason to make a stand or argue it. The contracts have been signed and they are exclusive with no end date notated. It is already done, Seon Rain. So, what is it you want to offer to the discussion?” she condescendingly asked.
Rain glared at her. “I can tell lack of manners obviously run in the family because you are just as much a jerk as your brother is.”
Dae-Ho applauded. “Well done, Cousin,” he purred. “Piss off the head of your security detail. That is simply brilliant.”
Rain smacked him in the face with a decorative pillow.
Jae shook his head from behind his desk where he had been sitting, watching. There really wasn’t much for him to say or do at this point, as Lula said, it was already done and there was no going back.
Lula smile. “Yes, I suppose I am,” she agreed. “But remember that it is these jerks you are stuck with that will take a bullet for you and not think twice about it.”
Rain’s eyes widened.
That, she hadn’t thought about it.
“I strongly suggest you make an attempt to prevent that from happening by listening and following orders. Do you understand?” Lula asked; her tone, the way she worded it…
It was the most terrifying thing Rain had ever heard and it caused her to shy away from the strong, confident woman, and bite her tongue on the matter.
