Chapter 162
Majestic già Baglioni
Bologna, Italy
Riku tied his bowtie in the mirror.
Suiko was doing her makeup from next to him.
Their father thought it would be good punishment if they were sharing a room and bathroom. Growing up they were often put in timeout together when they needed to work through their ‘disagreements’.
There were many disagreements growing up between them to say the least.
“You are rather quiet,” Riku commented. “I would have thought you would be seething that you have been sequestered with your asshole big brother.”
Suiko looked at her brother’s reflection. “Why would I be seething when Father secured an invitation to where I wanted to go? You know as well as I do that there would be no way to sneak into one of William Lee’s venues. His ass is even more paranoid than you are! Having to sit with Father and pretend to enjoy Italian opera so I can corner the annoying creature that is hiding from me is an acceptable payoff.”
Riku shook his head. “You are ridiculous,” he said. “Do you honestly think Kita Yasuhiro will talk to you? Talk to you after you ambushed him at a private event even? Do you not know him at all?!”
“Kita will not have a choice,” she informed him. “Public places he will remain quiet and obedient in. He is not one to cause a scene, unlike his annoying sister.” She turned to face him and Riku reluctantly turned to face her. “You will run interference for me, keep that annoying bitch and Lucien distracted while I corner Kita and the little brat he is pretending to play house with for the cameras.”
“What is in it for me?” Riku asked. “I rather enjoy watching you chase your tail in circles when it comes to Kita Yasuhiro and his unreciprocated feelings for you. It is the highlight of my day when I get the opportunity to watch the show.”
Suiko fought to keep from hitting him. “I will attempt to refrain from killing you any time soon if you do,” she offered.
“You will not kill me regardless, Sister,” Riku said, patting her cheek and she glared at him. “Believe it or not, we have much more in common than you want to admit. But the one thing we do not is your longing for the title Father will hand down to his heir.”
She rolled her eyes.
“You are your own worst enemy, Sister, and the one thing keeping you from the throne. Remember that so you do not make a fool of yourself in front of the cameras, multiple Nations, our own included, and act like a Princess. Okay? Leave Kita Yasuhiro alone, ignore him completely since it is the last thing they expect you to do, and just enjoy the opera with your peaky big brother.”
Suiko shook her head. “I hate you sometimes.”
“Only sometimes? That is an improvement,” Riku mused.
“Keep it up and I will kill you tonight,” she warned, heading from the bathroom so she could put her gown on.
Riku closed the door behind her then locked it.
Never to trust his sister’s non-homicidal nature, he wasn’t going to take any chances and turn his back on her. That would be reckless considering his sister is adamant that she needed to kill him still.
Tonight they would escort their father to the opera. It was supposed to be a private affair, that’s what intelligence gathered told them, but now it was turning into a political event. That wasn’t entirely unheard of, but it was when the event is being hosted by one of the world’s best hackers.
“Oh the things I get myself into,” Riku groaned, slipping into his tuxedo pants.
As amusing as it is to watch his baby sister try to win the unattainable heart of the man she had wanted since they were children is, it was purely for selfish reasons that he was encouraging her. If his sister was preoccupied with Kita and his new client, that would mean she wasn’t actively planning his demise.
It wasn’t as if Kita was actually dating anyone. The Korean was just his client, Riku knew. Even as kids, Kita never had any interest in relationships or the matters of the heart. He was quiet and emotionally detached, never smiled or laughed, compared to his siblings Riku always thought Kita might have suffered some type of emotional impairment because of how he was.
“A concert and show, the only thing missing is a date,” Riku grumbled, pulling the bathroom door open then jumped back, startled.
“Good evening, Your Highness,” Ryo said before bowing.
Riku glared at the small woman. “Where did you come from?” he demanded, motioning for her to step out of the way.
Ryo pushed her sliding glasses back up her nose and merely offered a smile, stepping to the side.
“I see your pet has come running back,” Riku sneered.
Suiko chuckled. “An obedient dog always returns to its master’s side regardless of being summoned or not. Zip me up, Brother,” she said, turning her back to him.
Riku sighed and went over to her and zipped the dress up for her. “Do you not think this Saint Laurent dress is rather revealing for a night out with so much political interest? Especially one where Father is supervising you?” he asked.
She smirked. “Not at all, and I thought we should match since you are my date. That Saint Laurent tuxedo looks rather lovely on you.”
He gave her a look; she was toying with him for some reason.
“I think it is the prefect dress to remind Kita of what he is missing now that he is stuck babysitting a plain child,” Suiko said with a smile.
Riku snorted; they both saw the pictures of Myo Mi-Sun from the red carpet, and there was nothing plain or childlike about the young woman.
“Wear a cape so Father does not make you stay in the car,” he said after putting his shoes on. “If you do not, I will make sure I have Lula put down your little prize pet purely for the entertainment value of it,” he sneered, glaring at Ryo.
Suiko chuckled. “Oh come on, Brother, it wouldn’t purely be for entertainment purpose.”
“No, it wouldn’t be. With your dog put down I would see it coming,” he sneered, grabbing his jacket then headed for the door.
The night would not end without bloodshed, Riku just knew it.
