Chapter 65

Seoul, Korea
Gangnam District

It only took one phone call to get the entire section of a high end clothing store closed to the public. And it was the first time that Rain had seen Kita, Lucien and Lula actually look and act like bodyguards.

Before Rain or Will could get out of the car, Kita and Lula swept the store, secured two different exit strategies, and removed inconsequential personnel from the area.

Rain was in her normal street look and Will apparently didn’t own anything other than colorful pajama pants and oversized hoodies, so they didn’t get a second glance from anyone they passed. If anything, having security is what caused them to get unwanted attention.

Amusing, to say the least, but Rain kept that to herself.

Kita and Lula were in three piece black suits with white dress shirts and black neckties. Her hair was pulled back into a bun, his was styled and restrained with hair product, and each was armed and carrying an umbrella even though it was a sunny day. Lucien was supposed to blend in more so he was dressed in black jeans and a gray sweater with a slouch beanie.

He still looked out of place in her opinion.

Dae-Ho was escorted to lunch with Chairman Hu by one of Will’s bodyguards per Lula’s request, and Will was more than supportive of the suggestion. Rain clearly saw that Will only had eyes for Lula Yasuhiro, but she didn’t mention it since Lula was obviously trying to ignore him.

There was a story there, Rain knew, and she was interested to find out what it was.

Lula and Lucien had talked about security at the venue the red carpet event was being held on the drive. Dae-Ho and Chairman Hu had supplied them with the needed information. Now they were coordinating additional security and surveillance that wasn’t exactly legal, Rain surmised. Kita didn’t add to the conversation. He sat in the backseat next to Rain, putting her in the middle seat, and looked out the window seemingly ignoring her completely.

It was interesting seeing it from that perspective, Rain thought. So much coordination went into everything that it made her appreciate her security team even more. But it also made her feel guilty when she was difficult or made demands they facilitated on the fly. The convenience store ramyun outing, the sake, sushi and movies, getting her bodyguard too drunk to do his job or drive…

It was selfish of her to force Kita to do each, but he did with very little complaint. She needed to properly thank him for that, she just didn’t know to do that exactly.

Dae-Ho suggested not throwing herself at him as she apparently kept doing. Rain smacked him for insinuating that she was purposely ending up in her bodyguard’s arms, though, it might have been unconsciously done.

“Thank you for doing this,” Rain said, again, watching her date for the red carpet flip through racks of dresses.

Will nodded. “It is an honor to be escorting you,” he said then waved over the sales manager.

That wasn’t who she was thanking.

“I want to see the latest from Modeste Augustin,” Will instructed.

The sales manager bowed. “Sir, those have not been released yet. I cannot pull from something I do not have.”

Will shook his head, pulling his mobile phone out. “I swear, the nerve of some people.” He dialed his phone then put it to his ear, waving the sales manager away. “Bonjour Modeste!” he beamed.

Lucien chuckled from next to Rain on the chaise where she was sitting. “You’ll have a gown that the world has never seen if Lula doesn’t reel him in,” he warned.

Rain groaned. “Why does he have to do that?”

“Because he’s helping you make a scene,” Kita said from behind them where he stood, splitting his attention between Will and his charge. “That is, after all, why they demanded your presence on the red carpet for Gang Moon and Gok Soo’s premier. Is it not?” he asked; his tone made it more than obvious that it was a rhetorical question.

“I don’t want to upstage Gang Moon or Gok Soo,” Rain said in a panic. “It is their red carpet, not mine. That isn’t how I am!”

Lucien shook his head. “Sadly, when Will is trying to prove a point or do something, and it’s something that only makes sense to Will, you usually don’t have a say in it.”
