“Tell me again what you did?” Will Lee asked, pinching the bridge of his nose.

Lucien shook his head. “I can’t see your lips when you do that,” he said.

They were video chatting on his cell phone.

“Sorry,” Will said, lowering his hand. “Tell me again what you did?” he repeated.

“Walked into a room,” Lucien said, again.

“Interference like that I’ve never seen before. And you’ve done some weird stuff, Luci. Did that giant stick in the mud find the source of the inference?”

“Not yet, to my knowledge. Kita will tell me when he does because I’m not going back in that room. It hurt like hell!”

Will jotted that down as a note for his research. “Siren like or was it more piercing?”

“Agonizing,” Lucien corrected. “It was like a low frequency on top of another frequency when it should have been under it… I didn’t hear it in the home until I was in that room.”

That was concerning.

“Iron walls?” Will asked.

“Concrete that’s painted, from what I could tell. Two windows, three different types of light sources… The television in there was older than I am.”

That, Will could work it.

“There’s a reason for that,” Will speculated. “I know what happened, and your brother isn’t going to be happy. Tell him to check for low frequency recording devices that require a power source. Sounds like someone hacked the feed or tried to put their own device in place and they are interfering with each other. You walked into the middle of that frequency battle, in a sense. Your devices will finish rebooting in five minutes or so. Let me know if you have any other pain or echoing from it.”

Lucien nodded. “What is the range on something like that? A low frequency signal,” he clarified. “It has to be close, doesn’t it?”

Will shrugged.

“Really?” Lucien asked, giving him a look. “You are the Chairman of the largest Tech company in Asia, have made countless gadgets and gizmos for nearly all agencies, on and off the books security details even, and your response is a shrug?”

He made a face. “You know, your sister used to do that to me, too,” he complained. “Stroking my ego isn’t required. I just don’t feel like trying to explain it slowly so you can read my lips.”

Lucien shook his head then pressed on the screen. “There, now I’ll have subtitles.”

Will groaned. “I should have never made that a feature in this App,” he complained.

“But you did.”

“Yes, I suppose I did. Less than fifty yards, they would have to be close,” Will conceded. “If it was used for spying but the stalker had a life and job, and couldn’t watch it at all times, that means a recording device would be used. I’d check where there’s height to allow for a clean signal capture. Power pole, phone lines, that type of thing. It’d have to be away from other wireless signals though otherwise it’d be useless, much like the frequency battle you walked into. Stay away from satellite dishes as well… How’s Lula?” he asked.

Lucien chuckled; he was waiting for that. “Not a very smooth transition in topics, Will.”

“I know, but as your sister always said, I lack communication skills when it pertains to her.”

Lucien’s smile fell.

Lula’s one and only failure in the field was falling for the person she was hired to protect.
