Chapter 99

Seoul, Korea
Convenience Store

“Was that really necessary?” Rain complained, softly swatting Kita in the chest. “All I wanted was some ramyun and peel sausage. Not to embarrass a young woman. Everyone is entitled to their opinions,” she reminded him. “Your opinion of me initially was rather colorful and hurtful.”

Kita looked at her from the corner of his eye then gave her a look. “Her opinion was unfounded and the fact she claims to be a Myo Mi-Sun fan and yet didn’t know you were standing less than five feet from her as such hateful things left her lips about you is beyond me. Not to mention, I promised to protect you-”

“I need protected from a school girl with an opinion?” she asked with a smile.

“Yes,” he said, as if it were obvious. “My initial opinion of you was because you shamelessly threw yourself at me and tried to kiss me. Remember?”

She glared at him before smacking him in the chest and he chuckled.

“Go get your ramyun and peel sausage-” he started to say.

“Ooh!” Will beamed, hurrying into the store. “I’m in Heaven! Sweets? Sweets? Sweets? Where are the sweets?!” he asked in a rush, hurrying up and down the aisles. “Found them!” he called out.

The others joined them.

Lula shook her head. “This is why you made Luci stop?” she groaned. “You cannot go around demanding apologies from everyone that speaks badly of our client.”

“I can when they disrespect her to her face,” he retorted. “Go reel William in before he starts trying to move into the candy aisle and takes his clothes off.”

Lula glared at her brother before heading off to get Will under control.

“Seon Rain, I will take care of this,” he said. “Go get your ramyun and stay away from the sesame ones regardless of them being favorites of the general population… Make me up Jajangmyeon with a baked egg?” he sheepishly asked.

Rain smiled wide then gave him two enthusiastic thumbs up. “You got it! Did you want me to slice the egg for you since you can’t open your mouth that wide still because of your jaw?”

He nodded instead of a snide comment, and she clapped excitably before hurrying to make him some ramyun.

Kita learned quickly that allowing the smiling young woman to tend to him, regardless of how insignificant whatever it was she wanted to do is, was the easiest way to deal with Seon Rain.

“Did you kill her?” Lucien asked, looking over the counter.

“No, I wanted to though,” Kita admitted. “The vile things she said right to Seon Rain’s face… We nearly had a body to dispose of on the first day.”

Lucien chuckled. “Lula is right, you have it for her, don’t you?”

Kita rolled his eyes. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Uh huh,” he said with a smile. “I’ll take care of the unconscious cashier. I want to get back before too long because I want to go for a motorcycle ride.”

“Want company?” Kita asked.

Lucien smirked. “I’m always down for a ride with my big brother.”

Kita headed over to the table where the others were sitting, waiting for Rain to finish mixing up ramyun, and joined them.

Lucien went behind the counter to the cashier and checked to make sure she was still breathing.

She was.

He picked up her mobile phone and looked at the screen then thumbed through the comments on the thread the young woman had been looking at when they arrived. “Myo Mi-Sun doesn’t touch anyone on the red carpet, especially men,” he translated, not nearly as fluent in written Korean as he was Japanese or French. “But she didn’t shy away from her bodyguard’s touch… Oh crap,” he said, looking up over the counter to the table where his siblings and the others were sitting.

Lula was shaking her head, trying to keep from laughing because Will was using a saeoo snek as a mustache and was puckering his lips at her. Dae-Ho was stabbing straws into some cartons of banana milk, amused by Will’s criminal James Bomb impression. And Kita was splitting his attention between those sitting with him and the young woman humming under her breath while she prepared bowls of noodles on the other side of the convenience store.

“This is not going to end well for anyone,” Lucien groaned, scrolling through the rest of the comments on the TikTok video. “Hmm, you actually might prove to be useful,” he said, looking to the groaning young woman.
