Chapter 109

Seoul, Korea
Lilac Suite

When the door opened to the Lilac Suite, Will looked up from his laptop to the woman that walked in with a scowl on her face.

“So our big Russian friend didn’t talk?” Will surmised.

Lula made a face, slipping out of her shoes. “Oh he talked, he just didn’t say anything that would have been of use.”

“That’s disappointing,” he agreed, opening an energy drink then chugged it.

“Disturbing would be a better way of putting it,” she retorted. “He recited, verbatim even, every line to the movie Hackers.”

That pique Will’s interest.

“The one with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Lee Miller?” he asked with a smile.

“One in the same. I only know because you tortured me with that movie when I was on your payroll. Either you leaked that you love that movie to those trying to kill you, or it was a purposely dangled breadcrumb as to the man’s employer.”

Will softly snorted. “Cinematic taste of classics from the 1990’s isn’t a crime and doesn’t mean the giant our little Seon Rain took out in the bar was hired by those I thwarted,” he said, appallingly before chuckling.

“Da,” Lula said with a thick, Russian accent. “This threat to my client is because of you, William.”

His face dropped. “I know, I’m sorry.”

Lula rolled her eyes. “You’re sorry because you did the right thing by stopping a group of hackers from hurting people and draining the bank accounts of some non-profit organizations in the United State?”

“My actions, regardless of how noble you pretend them to be, when it was done merely to sate my boredom, are now complicating your current assignment-”

“You did it to impress me and show me that there was more to you than immaturity, defiance, your unhealthy love of American sweets and energy drinks, and your collection of criminal and questionable pajama pants,” she interrupted.

He blushed. “Yes, I suppose there was that. But the fact remains, Lula. My actions, regardless of why I did them at the time, now puts you and your family at risk. Your big brother was put at risk when he took out the muscle that was sent to take your client… Oh crap,” he said, his eyes widening.

He just realized what happened and why.

“They were going to kidnap Seon Rain, thinking she was my girlfriend, to get back at me. Weren’t they?” he demanded, tears flooding his eyes.

Lula sat on the couch and looked at him. “Most likely. It is what I would have done if it were me, for the most part. Better intel would have been gathered though, and I would not have overlooked the only other person in the restaurant that happened to be watching the target with a stupid grin on his face,” she grumbled the latter.

Security footage made it beyond painfully clear that her annoying, personality challenged big brother had feelings for their client. The smile on his face, how readily he conceded to training Seon Rain, and the efficiency in which he took out the threat…

Lula was truly impressed by the skill her brother possessed, but was disappointed in his inability to sever the adore that had blossomed in heart for the client.

Will looked at her from the floor where he was sitting. “It’s okay that she makes him human or something,” he reminded her. “I just fear what he’ll do to Gang Moon if they are in the vicinity of each other again.”

Lula gave him a look. “Why do you say that? What did I miss while cleaning up the mess you didn’t even realize you made?” she asked, pinching the bridge of her nose.

He shrugged and offered Lula his laptop. “I was going over the video and pictures as you requested; tracking down which photos and video came from which photographer in order for you to put together a threat profile. While going through pictures and videos, I noticed something.”

Lula motioned for him to sit right next to her, as he was wanting to do, and he climbed up on the couch with a smile then rested his head on her shoulder. “You are not charming in the least,” she reminded him.

“Not to most, but you find me irresistible and charming in a nonsensical way,” Will retorted before kissing behind her ear.

Lula sighed. “Yes, I suppose I do. What am I looking for… Oh sh*t,” she groaned when she saw it.

Will nodded. “Yeah. I’ve never seen him with that look on his face before.”

“I have,” she said, watching the video from the red carpet event. “I have only seen it once, and I vowed if I ever saw it again I would run and take up residency in your bunker.”

Normally, Will would have been more than supportive of that suggestion, but her tone and the look on her face warned him that it wasn’t a joking matter.

What she was watching was Gang Moon’s interview with Tan Mi-Hi, right before the sprinkler system went off.

The look of confusion on Gang Moon’s face was expected, but that confusion quickly turned to predatory lust when Myo Mi-Sun headed towards their waiting car.

When Gang Moon started to reach for Myo Mi-Sun, Kita was there and the look on his face, his attention going from straight ahead to the man that was a threat to their charge, his expression Lula had seen before and only once…

And it wouldn’t end well for Gang Moon, not in the least.

“And to think, I thought a Russian crime syndicate mistakenly thinking your date on the red carpet was your girlfriend and kidnapping her, most likely killing her eventually, would be the biggest concern at the moment,” Lula said with a humorless chuckle.

It was complication after complication, it seemed.

Will smiled. “Your sense of humor is nearly as sexy as your amazing legs and the deadly things they can do to a man.”

She smacked him on the top of the head. “William, this is getting beyond complicated and I don’t think I can fix it this time.”

“You have tripled my guards. Alerted the Board of Directors at Rising Moon Technologies of the potential risk, thus increasing security and cyber security as well,” he reminded her. “I’m not too happy about that, but whatever. You already did it so I won’t complain about it.”

Lula merely shrugged.

She hadn’t told him what she was going to do in regards to this new security threat to his life and well-being. Or did she tell him about the changes to his security detail, but he figured it out easily enough while she was indisposed with hotel security.

“The hotel is on lockdown, in essence, because of a security breech they are blaming me for, even if I was the intended victim, in the end, and you exposed the flaws in their security,” Will said. “They want to boot me out, don’t they?”

She looked over at him from the corner of her eye. “Of course, but they won’t.”

“And why is that?” he asked, knowingly.

“It they do they’ll create an international incident,” Lula said as if it were obvious. “I’ll make sure that everyone in the security community knows that the hotel was breeched effortlessly by one man with Russian ties, and it was the very person they kicked out of their hotels was the one that exposed it.”

Will sighed contently and nuzzled against her neck. “You are so sexy when threatening to wage a one woman war against the government and criminal world.”

She chuckled. “I honestly don’t know why I bother with you, William.”

“Because you were stupid enough to fall in love with me,” Will said, as if it were obvious, even know he knew she wouldn’t say she loved him.

Lula groaned. “I suppose there is that,” she grumbled, causing him to lean back and look at her with wide eyes.

“Holy crap. You’re going to let them kill me!” he accused in a panic.

Amused, she shook her head.

“If I haven’t let anyone kill you yet, William, why would I start now?” Lula rhetorically asked. “I told you when I first met you, remember? I’m the only one allowed to kill you,” she endearingly reminded Will before leaning into him and brushed her lips against his.

Will sighed and started to kiss her back when his mobile phone beeped with an alert, stopping him in mid-kiss.

Quickly he grabbed his phone from the floor and unlocked it.

Lula groaned. “They better be under enemy fire because I was rather enjoying the thought of playing with you while the others are out.”

Will gave her a look, shaking his head. “Maturity at its finest, Lula Yasuhiro,” he scolded, activating the link on his mobile phone to Lucien’s implants then put it to his ear so he could listen. “Oh, this isn’t good,” he grumbled, grabbing his laptop and started hacking street cams to confirm Lucien’s suspicions.

They had company.
