Chapter 191

Seoul, Korea
Lilac Suite

Will continued to pull information for Evie. “Only your family would find themselves in the middle of the weird crap they have found themselves in and think it is fun,” he said.

Lula rolled her eyes. “Do not be so harsh on your future in-laws,” she scolded, and he smirked. “I will admit I am a little irritated I am stuck here with you while they are in the field having all the fun… Can you put some pants on? Doing intelligence gathering is one thing, but you being naked while we do it is kind of awkward and distracting.”

He made a face. “You told me I smelled like a stale onion and pickled eel so I took a quick shower.”

“And you forgot to pick up your laundry from the drycleaners again, didn’t you?” she surmised.

Will sheepishly nodded. “You know I would forget my own ass if it were not attached. I can put your panties on if you want, but you told me I would never laid again if I did after the last time I wore them,” he reminded her.

Lula shook her head. “Put something on, please, while we have radio silence. Mother will have a laundry list of stuff for you before too long. They have been on site longer than I like, and that leaves them exposed.”

“Yes, Dear,” he grumbled, heading to the bedroom, shaking his bare backside as he went.

Lula continued to shake her head, watching him, amused.

She truly hated how much she loved him and his off-colored and juvenile sense of humor.

If it weren’t for Will, she would be out in the field and preparing to breech the unit Lucien was. Yes, she loved going in the field and taking the lead out there, but when Evie was in the field you didn’t get a choice.

Evie Blanchar was the lead, always.

It was amusing though, listening to Mauri and Evie argue and Lucien try to keep the peace while she eavesdropped. If Kita was with them, it would be even more interesting to listen to. Kita took orders, normally, but Evie very rarely gave them to her first born. Lula, though, Evie liked bossing her around for some reason.

Most likely because they are so much alike.

“Better?” Will asked, flopping down on the couch in velvet and tulle collared bodysuit that was snapped between his legs and nothing else.

“Is that my new Fleur du Mal?” Lula asked, making a face.

“Yes, but I left the panties in your drawer,” he assured her. “This way my butt is free other than the thong splitting my cheeks.”

Slowly she shook her head. “You are a troubled, troubled little man,” she said.

“But you still love me,” Will teasingly sang.

“Yes, I suppose I do,” Lula said with a sigh. “And no, I do not want that Fleur du Mal back. You will get me a new one.”

Will smiled wide; he loved shopping for lingerie for his woman.

“William, give me your report on Manager Bak, now,” Evie ordered.

Lula sighed. “She is so damn bossy when playing the role of team lead,” she grumbled, pulling up the information Will dug up. “Manager Bak is Bak Chang-Li… That can’t be right,” she said, looking to Will.

“What’s wrong?” he asked. “What did I miss?”

“Who was the previous building manager?” Evie asked.

Lula flipped through the files and Will quickly started typing away on his laptop.

“There has been no change in managers in thirty years,” Will said. “Manager Bak… Is a man!” he gasped, looking to Lula with a smile. “You figured that out already, didn’t you?” he surmised when she gave him a look.

Lula nodded.

“You are freakishly good,” he said.

“Run these,” Evie instructed, sending them the prints she took from the teacup.

Will ran the prints for her through every database he has at his disposal.

“Am I that bossy when in the field?” Lula whispered.

He nodded. “Usually, but I don’t mind. I love you, so you can boss me around all you like. Your mother, she terrifies me, so she can boss me around as much as she likes.”

Why Lula bothered, she really didn’t know.

“We have an ID and you aren’t going to like it,” Lula said, pulling the information Will sent to her laptop. “The one posing as Manager Bak is his wife, but she’s been married ten times before, and eleven times a widow spanning the last twenty years. Either she is exceptionally unlucky in love, or those she marries have exceptionally bad luck.”

Will laughed. “Only your family could go in search of a stalker and find a serial killer instead,” he said, so she smacked him. “I’m serious, Lula. Your family has the strangest luck. Go for peel sausage and end up finding a lost heir. Go searching for a stalker and end up finding a serial killer. It is as amusing as it is terrifying-” he abruptly stopped.

“What is it?” Lula asked.

Will put his hand up to silence her.

There was interference on the line. Something familiar but he couldn’t decipherer with his current equipment. It was interference that Lucien’s implants were picking up, but Will didn’t think he was aware of it.

It was a gentle frequency that would be easily overlooked by anyone, but to Will it was screaming at the top of its lungs to his ears.

It was the same frequency that dropped Lucien in Manager Hu’s residence.

“No, no, no,” Will stammered, and quickly started pulling up as many security cameras in the area that he could. “Lucien, get out of there!” he yelled…

But it was too late.

Car alarms went off from the ground violently shaking, and the back half of the apartment building on the fourth floor was raining down to the sidewalk and concrete below. Thick black smoke filled the sky and blocked the video feeds from the security cameras Will had hacked.

“Luci!” Lula cried out, getting to her feet.
