Chapter 194

Seoul, Korea
University Hospital of Seoul

The helicopter flight to the hospital wasn’t long, and Kita kept his attention out the window the entire time. Rain sat next to him, too scared to try to console him since she knew whatever happened was because of her and it hurt someone he loved.

Will was waiting on the roof for them when the helicopter landed.

It wans’t news he wanted to give anyone, especially his brother in-law, but the rest of the family was beyond consoling at the moment.

“Where is he?” Kita asked, his voice cracking. “Where is my baby brother?”

Rain’s eyes widened; it was Lucien that was hurt?!

Will motioned for them to follow him. “Lucien is in surgery,” he said in a quiet voice. “Lucien coded en route to the hospital more than once, but your father wouldn’t allow them to call it. Luci is a fighter, but this is a fight I have to stack the deck on. The best doctors and surgeons in South Korea were brought in to personally handle the emergency surgeries. The Emperor is sending specialists from Japan to oversee the care of his nephew.”

“How bad is it?” Dae-Ho asked.

Will shook his head. “From what I know, a ruptured spleen, collapsed lung, he broke all of his ribs, fractured his skull in four places, broke his leg and pelvis, and dislocated his shoulder… Most likely there’s more but that’s all they’ve relayed to us.”

“What aren’t you telling us?” Rain whispered when Will motioned for Kita to join his parents and sister in the surgery theater.

Kita hurried over to them and hugged his parents tight and they started sobbing in his arms.

Will shook his head. “Luci isn’t going to make it off that operating table without a miracle. They need blood, and they don’t have it. I called every place I can, and have what I could get coming, but it won’t get here in time.”

Rain wiped away the tears staining her cheeks. “What happened? I thought they were just doing some recon? They went to get a rental application. I don’t understand what happened.”

“I don’t know,” Will admitted, talking in a whisper. “The apartment across from Pan Jin’s mother’s unit was rigged to explode if breeched.”

Pan Jin gasped. “How bad is it? Oh no, Yang Sun! She lives next door to that unit and is home during the day. Oh no, oh no, oh no,” she stammered.

Will pointed towards the darkened corner of the theater where the little girl in question was curled up on a jacket with a digital tablet in hand and headphones on, watching a movie. “Lucien met her and relocated Sun to your mother’s unit so he could gain entry to the unit in question through hers. She’s okay… The little escape artist is the one that found Luci after the explosion.”

Dae-Ho looked from the little girl in the corner to Kita and the others that were standing up, looking down through the glass to the operation room below. “Why would they rig the unit to blow?” he asked the obvious.

“If we knew, they would be dead,” Will said. “Manager Bak was a serial killer of the black widow variety. Mauri took her out before Evie could. Luci wanted to infiltrate the unit on his own through the balcony, but the door and window were rigged to blow. Even the slightest jarring would have set it off. Lucien was the only casualty.”

None of this made sense.

Why would the apartment be rigged to blow up?

Who was the tenant?!

Why were they there?

Did it have something to do with Myo Mi-Sun’s stalker?

“Was it because of me?” Pan Jin asked.

“Why would you assume that?” Dae-Ho asked, wiping the tears from his eyes. “Are you doing some weird, illegal stuff on the side we don’t know about?”

She shook her head. “No, of course not. The family that used to live there died. Yang Sun used to stay with them during the day… Then they died and the unit was re-rented in record time. All that happened right after I was named Myo Mi-Sun’s Fan Club President. That can’t be coincidence, can it?”

Will shook his head. “I don’t think it is, and neither did Lucien,” he said. “You were the next target, Jin.”

“I’m the reason why Eun-Kyung and their family died?” she asked, tears staining her cheeks. “Because I got a job?!”

Sadly, that was a very real possibility.

“Hold on. Blood?” Rain asked, struggling to process all of this, and mentally was slowly catching up on the conversation. “Lucien needs a blood transfusion?”

Will nodded. “They need more. He’s gone through everything they had and that I could get here. It’s a rare blood type, one that Kita doesn’t have and Lula has donated all they’ll allow for her to.”

“Type AB?” Dae-Ho asked.

“AB-negative,” Will said. “It’s extremely rare.”

“That’s our blood type,” Rain said. “Where do we go to donate?”

“Sit and I’ll have the phlebotomist come in,” Will said, pulling out his mobile phone.

They didn’t have enough guards to split them up at the moment, and Will didn’t have it in him to leave Lula for longer than he already had.

“Three of us isn’t enough,” Dae-Ho said, pulling his mobile phone out. “I have an idea though. Will, have security add Tae-il to the approved visitor’s list. I’ll have Dad reach out to BT5’s management company.”

Pan Jin understood what he was trying to say. “A blood drive, that’s genius. With BT5’s and Myo Mi-Sun’s fan base, the blood banks will be over capacity in only hours, and hopefully that will get Lucien a few more units of the kind he needs. We can do a power red donation which will give them two units… Because of my blood type I donate as much as I can.”

Will gave her a look; that was interesting information, and a creative solution, even if temporary.

Rising Moon Technologies had a rather large medical division, and Will had already been in contact with them, and his chief of medicine will have access to all reports in case a tech intervention is required for Lucien’s recovery or care.

“Tae-il is on it,” Dae-Ho said, looking up from his mobile phone. “He’s having his management company coordinate with the blood banks an immediate donation drive in BT5’s name which will screen blood types and take the ones Lucien can use straight to the hospital with a police escort.”

Will looked between the three with tears in their eyes and mobile phones in hand, doing everything they could to save Lucien just as he was.

It was, at that moment, William Lee realized that his family truly was growing and there was nothing they wouldn’t do to save those he loved.
