Chapter 185

Seoul, Korea
Gwangjin District

Lucien parked the car then motioned towards the apartment building.

Evie looked through the information on her mobile phone that Will provided. “There are six that live in the vicinity on the report. Four are working on her current project.”

“What about the ones that are not on working on her current project?” Mauri asked from the backseat, his attention out the window as he assessed the area for threats. “Are they of concern?”

“A sixty-nine year old set coordinator that retired midway through this particular project due to a back injury,” Evie said. “No concerning behavior or interaction with Myo Mi-Sun or any of the the other young actresses when on set. If anything, he was very protective of them and filed dozens of complaints about those that made lewd comments or made the actresses feel uncomfortable.”

“And the other?” he pressed.

“The other is a cameraman that is currently shooting Director Tan Hoon’s latest horror film in Sweden; besides, he is gay and not a concern that I have been able to tell.”

That helped narrow down the threat on set some, but they were still grasping at straws and trying to find links that were expertly hidden.

“Why this location, Son?” Mauri asked.

“This is where Pan Jin lived with her mother,” Lucien said.

“Is the new sister of concern?” Evie pressed.

“No,” Lucien said, straightening his necktie in the mirror. “Pan Jin, I fear, might have been a target without realizing it.”

They gave him nearly identical looks.

“The apartment across from where she lived with her mother has a new tenant, one that moved in shortly after Pan Jin came into Myo Mi-Sun’s life. That’s what I need to get confirmation of. If that vacancy was filled because of Pan Jin being named the President of the Myo Mi-Sun fan club, that should help narrow down the list you and Father compiled from the dossier Will put together for you.”

Mauri rubbed his hands together with a smile. “This is so exciting! Very rarely do I get to play recon, especially with your mother. The only time you kids call me is if you wish to utilize my unique skillset.”

Evie shook her head. “You do not do well with recon like this, Husband,” she reminded him. “When you try, you befriend everyone around you instead of blending in. The last time you tried to do recon in Israel you ended up being invited to a bar mitzvah and still get holiday cards from their family.”

Mauri smiled wide.

“All you need to do is stand back and scowl. Lucien knows his part and I will take the lead. You, just look small and menacing,” she instructed.

“Yes, My Dear,” Mauri grumbled before getting out of the car.

Lucien shook his head, looking at his pouting father. “You know he’s going to do something merely to show you that he can do this as well, don’t you?”

Evie made a face. “Yes, and most likely it’ll result in a body count because I don’t like to share.”

“And you wonder where Kita gets it from,” he said with a chuckle and got out of the car.

Evie looked at her son’s retreating form then smiled before getting out of the car; her eldest was more like her than she thought and it warms her heart to hear it.

Lucien and Evie joined Mauri on the sidewalk.

“Perfect place to take out a convoy,” Mauri said, looking around. “Snipers along the tops of the buildings, as well as any of the windows and balconies on the front of each building… Are you trying to get us killed, My Dear?” he asked, cocking an eyebrow, looking at his wife.

Evie smirked. “You are even sexier when speaking my language, Husband, but not in front of our little boy,” she scolded.

“Wait until I’m not around,” Lucien groaned when his father wagged his brows and smirked before crossing the street to the apartment building.

“Layout?” Evie asked, eying the apartment building.

Lucien knew she’d ask that. “There’s no front office,” he explained. “Luckily there is an onsite manager. Not so luckily, Will believes they paper file everything since there was nothing to hack.”

“That is most regrettable,” Evie said, unbuttoning her blazer so the gun holstered at the front of her hip was clearly visible.

“Six floors, one lift that is on the west end of the building, and stairs are located at the end of each hallway,” Lucien continued. “Alley access along the back is accessible from the stairs and leads to a car park for the residents.”

Mauri pulled his son to a stop. “The tenant in question, do we know who the previous was and why they left?” he asked.

Lucien shook his head. “I didn’t look into it,” he admitted. “From what I could tell, only a third of the units aren’t vacant. Will, can you please run a check with the utilities company and see who the previous tenant was and run a check on them? Find out where they went to, if you can see why they moved, possibly have Lula make a call and gather intel for us?”

“Of course,” Will said, his voice echoing in Lucien’s ears. “I’ll see what I can pull on the new tenant as well. One hack into their systems is all I can get before they close the door so I’ll do it all at once.”

“Understood,” Lucien said, pulling a small metal tin from his inside jacket pocket. “Father, you are doing recon so you’ll need equipped.” He offered Mauri one of the small, clear ear buds that was in the tin then offered his mother the other. “Will and Lula are both connected. Pop your jaw and it’ll activate the emergency open line.”

Mauri tenderly patted his son’s cheek. “So much like your mother,” he teased. “But sinfully handsome like your father.”

Lucien chuckled. “Yes, yes I am.”

On the main floor there were mailboxes and a sign that stated which apartment the building manager was in.

“I will do the talking,” Evie reminded them then knocked on the door.

Lucien stood back and kept an eye out for trouble.

Mauri was leaning against the wall with his hands in his pockets, trying to look menacing and indifferent.

It wasn’t a good look or role for him.

After Evie knocked a second time, the door opened and an irritated older woman stood there.
