Chapter 208
Seoul, Korea
National Intelligence Service
Lula held an icepack to the back of her head; the knot she got from hitting a building was swollen and tender. The Superiors from the NIS requested Lula be called in, and that a representative for the Imperial Guard be present for the debriefing.
They expected Mauri Yasuhiro, but got Kita instead.
“I should have gone with you,” Kita said, sitting next to her in the debriefing room.
“They should have secured her better,” Lula said indifferently. “If she isn’t in the car, Kitty, we have a very big problem.”
Kita nodded his agreement. “There were too many blind-spots, and you know as well as I do about situational training. Will’s friend is scouring the area with the second drone he dispatched; if they find anything he’ll send us the information… Where do I take her in order to protect her from Ryo?”
That, Lula feared would be where this conversation would eventfully go.
“There is no place that will be safe for Rain,” Lula admitted. “Even Will’s bunker wouldn’t be safe. We’re facing a highly trained asset that is no longer taking orders, and in her mind she is still seeing through the orders she thought she was getting.”
Again, Kita nodded.
“We could use her as bait,” Lula suggested.
Kita glared at her.
“I know,” she conceded. “It isn’t a good plan, but it might be our only option.”
He shook his head. “You are not dangling my wife out there for a sociopath to go after. If you would have properly oversaw securing of the prisoner this would have never happened.”
“And where were you? Why didn’t you do it?” she asked, already well aware of the answer.
“I was seeing to the treatment of my wife after she was shot by that vile little b*tch,” he said, his tone warning her to watch what she said next. “I should have put a bullet in her head, instead I did as ordered and what my commanding officer would have requested, and it killed people. It killed four NIS Agents. It caused damage to personal property. My sister was hurt. My mother is now having to fill out a report because of the use of a firearm in city limits, and you know how much Mother detests official paperwork.”
Lula nodded her agreement; Evie detests government paperwork.
“You should have,” Lula agreed. “I should have. Father and Mother should have. But we didn’t because we are better than that, Kitty. Amano Ryoko lost her way and her honor, and that will cost the annoying creature her life, if she isn’t already dead. We need to be prepared if case she isn’t. We need to make sure Seon Rain, Father and Mother, Pan Jin, Dae-Ho, William, Lucien, and the Prince are safe. They need proficient guards with them at all times.”
Kita agreed, but he didn’t like what that meant.
“I will make the call,” he said.
“Imperial Guards are the only ones that will see it coming, Kitty,” Lula reminded him. “I don’t like it any more than you do. William needs to get his butt back to Singapore and his bunker where he’ll be safe for now. Pan Jin and Dae-Ho will need to be sequestered. Your wife will be the hardest yet.”
“I know,” he whispered, absently spinning his wedding ring back and forth on his finger. “I will speak with her about terminating the contract for her current production. That, hopefully, will get her sequestered somewhere so she is safe.”
Lula laughed. “Give it up, Brother. This optimistic sh*t just doesn’t work for you,” she said, wiping a tear from her eye. “If Amano Ryoko’s body is not in that wreckage, we go about it as usual. Myo Mi-Sun will finish her stupid movie, Pan Jin will finish up this school year, Dae-Ho will work on his relationship with his K-Pop boyfriend, and Lucien will mend and get better.”
“Where is William in this?” he asked.
“Singapore,” she said, all mirth stolen. “I will not risk him when he doesn’t need to be here. Once this job is wrapped, I will deal with him accordingly. Mother and Father will go back to the shadows and do what they were doing before they joined us in Italy. I already know Mother is working on the Russian angle even after I told her I would handle it-”
Kita snorted. “William will not go down without a fight, and he has as much invested in this particular problem as we do. Amano Ryoko killed his children, did you forget? William demands atonement, but he is only having patience in order to not cause problems for you with Father and the Imperial Family. How much patience do you think he will continue to exercise, Sister?”
They both knew the answer to that.
“What do we do, Kitty?” Lula asked.
Kita shook his head. “I do not know, not yet. We need to involve all those this will affect before we make a decision. Dangling my wife out there as bait is not an option, but I know she will have a different opinion on that.”
Lula nodded her agreement. “She is a selfless pain in the ass like that.”
“She is, and I love that about her as much as it annoys me,” he admitted. “Dae-Ho can be sequestered with Will at the hotel with Father to keep an eye on them. Mother can escort Pan Jin to and from school. You and I will handle Myo Mi-Sun’s shooting schedule.”
She chuckled. “Making decisions without the others after you just said,” she baited.
“Yes, and?” Kita asked, as if that wasn’t the point. “Having something figured out in order to have a starting point is not overstepping bounds. I am not Oversight, you and Mother are, and when you get two Oversights in one room… Shall I continue?”
Lula smirked. “Point.”
“We will make sure all guards will be of our caliber and have them posted at the hotel, on set, and in the hospital,” he continued. “Limit the threats accessibility to potential targets.”
“Agreed,” she said. “With her lack of mental well-being, Ryo will solely be focused on the task at hand, the last task her Master gave her.”
Kita hated to agree with her, but if Ryo was alive, that meant she wouldn’t stop until her Master’s orders were seen through…
What Kita couldn’t figure out was, and Lula hadn’t thought of, what were her orders?
Make Kita’s life a living Hell or take out the woman that had found herself in his heart?
There was a knock at the door before Supervisory Agent Park joined them with a bow; he was Agent Han’s boss.
The look on his face told them all they needed to know.
War it is.
