Chapter 207
Seoul, Korea
City Center
“Sh*t!” Lula and Agent Han said in unison.
Their driver slammed on the breaks as they passed the sedan that was rolling, causing the backend of their car to slide around.
The back passenger door open and Lula stepped out, clearing the door as it swung while the car continued to slide, with gun in hand.
Agent Han hurried to join her, gun drawn, motioning that he’d take the left and she take the right and to flank the car that finally came to a rest upside-down on the street.
“She will be armed!” Lula started to warn when shots rang out before the shattered side window was kicked out of the car.
Agent Han and Lula ducked behind the cars parked along the street.
The windows of the cars shattered from the well placed shots coming from the overturned sedan, all of which were directed Lula’s way.
“Will, I need eyes,” Lula barked out.
“I had to kill the drone in order to kill the car,” Will said, out of breath. “The second is en route but it’s back at the hotel with me. I just launched it out the window. Santos is racing it that way, but it’ll take ten minutes at least… If it gets there at all. It isn’t military grade, it’s fun grade.”
Lula looked around, appraising the situation. “There’s many cameras in this area that you can hack,” she stated the obvious. “I need to know what is happening in that car, William.”
Will rolled his eyes; as if he hadn’t thought of that.
“Cameras have limited view due to the other vehicle’s position, and the impact took power out on that side of the block. Ryo hasn’t left the confines of the sedan, that I can confirm, and is using one of the Agent’s as a human shield while inside it… You’re nearly to the hospital, right?”
Lula looked down the street. “It is over three-thousand meters away,” she said; it wasn’t close enough, not that she knew what he was scheming or why he mentioned it. “Do you have toys there? Something that you can get deployed quickly?”
Will laughed. “Kind of. I have an idea,” he said. “Standby.”
Lula growled under her breath in frustration. “Don’t do anything stupid, William,” she grumbled.
This was entirely her fault, Lula felt. She should have made them medicate Ryo before they loaded her into the car; rendering a trained asset unconscious is the easiest way to transport a threat. An Imperial Guard’s training is extensive, and they are prepared for just these types of situations!
Most likely the Agents did something foolish like not secure her properly or they let their guard down because Ryo didn’t look like much.
That was a Guard’s greatest advantage; not looking like much.
Mauri was overlooked all the time, and that was what made him so effective on the job. It was what made Lula and Kita unable to do the job like their father had.
Lula was much too tall, too European looking, and too much like her mother to hide in the shadows as an Imperial Guard was to do.
More gunfire came from Ryo, littering the side of the car Lula was using for cover with bullets.
“Will, I need an update,” Lula said, shying down when more gunfire littered the car with bullets.
It was more than obvious that Ryo wasn’t actually trying to hit her, and instead was keeping her contained, the real threat to her escape, and the other Agents away from her, to keep them from getting any closer while she got herself out of the restraints.
“Keep your men back,” Lula instructed. “She is working on the restraints and blind firing to keep us from getting closer.”
Agent Han relayed the instruction to the other Agents that joined them from the crashed lead car.
The situation wasn’t good.
They were at a tactical disadvantage even.
The car Ryo was using for protection was partially in an alleyway that was without eyes and could aid in her escape. The Agents in the car were dead, and she had access to their weapons; that meant they couldn’t just wait it out until Ryo was out of ammunition.
A standoff could take hours and the risk of an innocent bystander or more Agents being killed was great.
Ryo was in fight or flight mode, and a body count wouldn’t deter her.
A lack of moral compass was the downfall of Ryo’s father as well.
There were too many variables, too many potential targets in the area, and with a suspect that will take as many down with her as possible, it was a worst case situation that Lula was normally prepared for…
But not without her family.
The NIS Agents were trained, but not well enough to deal with someone that has lost their sense of honor and had the training which Ryo does.
If Lula had her siblings and parents with her, the treat would already be in NIS custody and in a cell where she couldn’t hurt anyone again.
Instead, Lula’s by herself, in a sense, and without the high ground or tactical advantage.
“Damn it,” Lula hissed; she wished her family was there for backup.
“Get out of the area,” Will warned. “Now!”
Lula stayed low and used the cars lining the street to retreat, and she motioned for Agent Han and his men to do the same.
“What do you see?” Lula demanded.
“I don’t see anything, but she does,” Will said.
Lula’s brows pulled together when she heard the shot before the overturned car exploded.
The force of the blast wave shattered all glass and windows in the vicinity, knocked the power out, and sent debris flying everywhere. It picked each Agent and Lula up and sent them flying down the street and into the fronts of the buildings lining the street.
Lula groaned from the sidewalk, her ears ringing, wind knocked from her, and the taste of blood flooded her mouth. “Was that my McMillan TAC-50 I heard seconds before the explosion?” she asked once the flashes of light cleared from her vision.
“Yeah,” Will said.
“And you had it at the hospital why?” she asked.
“Your mother wanted something to preoccupy herself with while waiting for Luci to wake up,” he said. “Unofficially, your mother just broke the world record for a sniper shot. Since it was a gas tank she was aiming for, it won’t count as a kill,” he said. “From the top of the hospital, direct line of sight, 3,545 meters with your father acting as a spotter.”
That’s what Lula thought.
“Call in a secure and armed recovery team,” Lula instructed, picking herself up. “Until I see the body, Amano Ryoko is still alive and extremely dangerous.”
“Yes, Ma’am,” Will said.
