Chapter 148
Tokyo, Japan
Imperial Luxury Building
The penthouse elevator opened and four guards stepped out and secured the area before they’d let their charge enter the area.
“It is rude to cower in one’s elevator, Brother.”
Riku chuckled and exited the elevator, motioning for his guards to stay within reach. “Waiting, not cowering,” he retorted, joining her on the sundeck where she was lounging in the evening sun. “You would take just as many precautions if our positions were reversed.”
Suiko looked over at him. “Yes, I suppose I would. What do I owe the pleasure of your instructive visit?”
He sat on the lounge next to hers and kicked his legs out, making himself comfortable. “Father received a request for an audience.”
“And yet it is you that walked through my door.”
“Yes. Father is preoccupied with business at the moment,” Riku reminded her. “I should be at his side, and yet here I am seeing what it is my troublesome baby sister is up to now.”
Suiko chuckled. “You truly are a diva, Brother. What I wished to speak with father about is between father and I.”
Riku smiled. “So you say, but if I had to venture a guess I would say it has to do with our dear old friend Kita Yasuhiro and the smiling young Korean in his arms.”
Her smirk fell and she glared at him.
“That is what I thought,” he smugly said. “I saw the pictures as well. He did look rather dashing and unbelievably handsome, and never had I seen him smile like that before. The matching braces we had on our teeth as young teens apparently gave him a million dollar smile that he never shared with anyone until now. Jealous?”
“My teeth are just as straight as yours, or theirs,” Suiko sneered.
“But did you know he could smile? I didn’t,” Riku mused.
Suiko’s nostrils flared.
“They will shoot you if you touch me,” Riku warned. “Father gave them permission to. I asked them to merely maim, but if needed, a kill shot would do. Speaking of being temperamental, Sister, where is that new guard of yours? I was certain the kiss ass would be putting her nose in our business, and yet she is suspiciously absent.”
“The troublesome girl is an adult,” Suiko reminded him. “What she does in her spare time is of no concern of mine or of the crown. What business is Father seeing to? Is it something of concern?”
Riku shrugged. “He was rather tightlipped and left in a rush. That means it is either urgent or personal in nature. I would guess both. There is only one person that would fall under both categories, and it is because of you I fear. Congratulations on bringing the Original Guard back to the palace, Sister.”
Suiko groaned. “That is most regrettable. Means you will longer, doesn’t it?”
He chuckled. “I suppose. You were requesting an audience with Father so you could be free of your glass prison, were you not?”
“And if I was?” she retorted.
Riku offered her his hand. “I will free you, but you have to promise not to kill me. Wait until I have the crown in order to make it worthwhile.”
“You mean until your name is recorded in the history books,” Suiko corrected.
“Yes, there is that. Come, let me free you from your glass prison and we shall catch a show and do some shopping,” Riku said, getting to his feet then pulled his sister to hers.
Suiko gave him a look. “Shopping and a show? What are you up to, Brother?”
“There are some lovely new Gucci shoes I just have to get, but they are only available in Italy at the moment. We can catch a show while there. A nice little vacation, just the two of us and the guards, of course, and perhaps we might run into an old friend or two.”
She pouted before caressing his cheek. “If I didn’t have to kill you, we would surely be best friends.”
He smiled. “There is no need to kill me at the moment. Father will not step down for another ten to fifteen years. That gives us time to be best of friends and siblings until then. Besides, you were the one that got to enjoy the eye candy for years while I was stuck being babysat by inferiors. I should be the one wanting to kill you.”
Suiko smiled. “I would truly welcome your attempt and it would be the highlight of my life. Allow me to pack a few things.”
Riku bowed. “Leave your poisons at home though. I don’t trust you won’t have a temper tantrum and try to use them on me.”
Tenderly patted his cheek. “I would never do you the injustice of poisoning you, Brother. I want to make sure you know it is my hand that takes your life, so I can watch it visible leave your eyes before I take what is rightfully mine. Never forget that.”
Riku chuckled. “How could I? You remind me of it every birthday.”
“So you never forget,” she repeated, heading inside so she could pack.
He watched her go, shaking his head.
With very little effort his baby sister could control a room and all situations and come out unscathed. He always admired that about her, but she suffered from shortsightedness and allowed her pride and selfishness to cloud her better judgement.
There was no reason for Suiko to kill her twin brother, regardless of him drawing breath first. Their father knew an heir his eldest predecessor would never have, and it would be his sister that would be responsible for creating the next heir. Suiko hadn’t considered that, she thought their father was in the dark when it came to his son.
That wasn’t the case at all.
Riku came out to their parents when he was thirteen with the support of his only friends; the Yasuhiro siblings.
Apparently Suiko didn’t get the memo.
It was something she used against her brother, and he let her pretend it held some type of power over him. It made it easier to deal with her that way.
But now it was his turn to have something over her, a power, that he was going to exploit simply because he could.
Seeing the object of his sister’s obsession happy and on the arm of another would be the perfect salt to rub in the wound, and he was eager to have a front row seat to it.
Haruto, his Chief of Security, joined him. “Is that wise, Your Highness?” he asked under his breath.
“Don’t fail and it will be,” Riku said. “If you are scared of her, I am certain I can find someone more than capable of protecting me from my murderous little sister. Perhaps your former Commander will be able to find a replacement that isn’t terrified of her for me.”
The tall guard merely bowed. “If you like, I can make the call to Commander Yasuhiro personally. That is, after all, who the King rushed to see, Your Highness.”
Riku glared at him. “See that my sister doesn’t pack any weapons or poison. I have enough to deal with at the moment.”
Haruto bowed again and went to oversee the Princess’ packing.
