Chapter 94
Seoul, Korea
Twilight Theater
Rain’s smile fell and she slowed, pulling Dae-Ho to a stop.
This didn’t feel right.
The long hallway was lined with closed office doors, some solid wood and others had glass inserts that were darkened. Usually the lights were on along the hallway and the emergency exit at the end of the hall would be held open for her so she could get to her waiting car.
Only every fourth light overhead was on and it barely illuminated the area around it, creating shadows and blind spots that caused the hairs on the back of her neck to stand on end.
“What is it?” Kita asked.
Rain shook her head, looking around. “This isn’t right. The hallway is too dark,” she said. “I’ve exited this way before, and there should be lights on. A member or two of security should be holding the door around corner at the end of the hall to make sure no one comes in or out… This isn’t right. Something’s wrong,” she said, looking to Kita in a panic.
Kita motioned for Lucien to check it out. “You’ll be safe with me,” he reminded her in a whisper, caressing her arm.
Rain nodded, her eyes wide in fear.
She wasn’t entirely concerned about her well-being. It was the well-being of her cousin, Will, and her bodyguards that was a concern of hers at the moment.
The thought of any of them getting hurt because of her was unconscionable.
They figured the exit would be the easiest part of the night.
In and out.
It was simple, Lucien and Lula had both commented.
But it wasn’t.
This was the part of the evening that Rain hated.
The exit.
The Captain of Security provided Lula a layout and detailed list of each means Myo Mi-Sun had utilized to get out of the theater and reception area in the past. The fire exit at the end of the hallway where administration offices are located was her chosen exit route, and it was surprisingly secure and a good choice so they went with it.
It was easy.
A straight shot.
What could go wrong?
There are a few alternate routes they can take; each had it’s positive and negatives.
One involved the basement service entrance and exposure to too many outside caterers and vendors, and multiple uncontrolled variables made it risky.
Kita vetoed that one.
They could go to the roof and utilize a zip-line to get to the neighboring building that was secured and cleaned.
That was Lucien’s idea that Rain wasn’t overly fond of.
Another involved lots of potential property damage and a rather dramatic exit.
That one was Will’s overly enthusiastic of exit strategy.
Worst case, they go with Lula’s which involved a trip to the roof and get picked up by a helicopter that was on standby.
Those exit strategies were the least inconspicuous and would get them much unwanted attention, thus they were going with Myo Mi-Sun’s preferred means of escape first.
The fire door was the closest and most accessible exit to where the reception was being held. Her security had coordinated with the Captain of Security at the theater to keep this area unmanned and to have two guards on the outside of the building on each corner, keeping it clear for them. Keeping guards from the hallway would prevent attention to the area, and that would, in theory, make it easier to utilize that exit.
But the client says something is wrong and that it isn’t right.
Instead of pressing forward and ignoring her warning, they were listening to her as their mother had warned them to.
When Lucien reached the end of the darkened hallway, he retreated backwards as two security guards stepped around the corner, blocking the exit.
Lucien looked at the badges that were on the left breast of each guard’s suit jacket then to their faces; one had scars on his face and the other was adorned with tattoos and scars that none of those on the approved guard list had.
Security was explicitly ordered to wear their identification badges on the right breast; the opposite side that a right-handed guard would typically wear it on so it was a conscious change that had to be made. Someone infiltrating security wouldn’t have been aware of that, and instinctively would wear the badge on the left as a right-handed person would automatically do.
Lucien mumbled something in French too low for the others without coms in their ears to hear.
Kita pulled Rain protectively behind him. “Stay behind me,” he instructed.
“Is there a problem?” one of the guards asked, leaning to the side so he could see her, his attention on Myo Mi-Sun.
Lula motioned for Will to see to Dae-Ho and stay back; Will had experience in this type of situation.
“Ugh! This sucks,” Will complained, grabbing Dae-Ho and pulled him protectively against the wall. “I was so going to get laid tonight, and your idiocy is ruining that… You better scream in pain when they kick your asses to make it worth it!” he warned the guards.
Dae-Ho chuckled. “Pills kicked in, huh?”
“Oh yeah, kicked in and then some! At least my clothes are still on,” Will offered with a smile. “But for how long is the question,” he mused before wagging his brows.
Dae-Ho blushed. “Stop flirting with me when your woman is literally next to you,” he scolded and Will smiled wide.
“They were warned,” Lucien reminded his siblings before grabbing the closest guard by the jacket then slammed his forehead into the man’s face, effectively knocking him out.
When the other reached for Lucien, he was greeted by Lula’s batons that slammed into his head on each side, knocking him into the wall. It was followed by a second attack that took his legs out from under him before the heel of a boot slammed into his face, knocking him out.
“This route has been compromised,” Kita started to say when someone grabbed a hold of Rain’s arm and pulled her way from him and into them, and she cried out in surprise.
