Chapter 30

Seoul, Korea
Snowdrop Suite

When the early breakfast crowd started to be seated, Lula and Kita returned to their suite. Lula kissed Kita on the cheek and offered a smile before heading to her room with her laptop so she could finish investigating Kita’s concerns.

On the bed in Kita’s room was the bag of hydrogen peroxide that Rain bought; he had tossed it there before heading to his sister’s room earlier.

“It would be rude to not give it a try since she bought it,” he said, pulling the bottles out. “And most likely she’d cry if I didn’t try it her way. Seon Rain is exceptionally good at turning on the waterworks. I suppose that’s what makes her a leading lady for over two-dozen romances.”

He headed to the bathroom and drained the sink his jacket, vest and shirt were soaking in then used the peroxide. Since his clothing is black, he couldn’t tell when wet if it worked or not so he hung them up to dry.

Kita started to turn off the lights and head to his room when curiosity got the better of him. He went over to the door on the other side of the bathroom and put her ear against it and listened.

It was quiet.

Kita knew it was Rain’s room. Because he was her personal guard, he had to be roomed next to her in case something happened.

The Snowdrop suite was designed for housing a family so each room was an en-suite; Lucien and Dae-Ho were sharing the room that had two single beds in it, and Lula had her own room but shared a bathroom with them.

Rain said she’d be going to bed and that she didn’t need anything when they returned from the convenience store. And she promised that she wouldn’t attempt jumping out the windows since he wouldn’t give her a keycard. But Kita wanted to check on her to make sure she was okay.

That wasn’t a part of the job he normally bothered with; he was personal protection, not mental or emotional support. But he wanted to check on his charge’s emotional well-being for the first time in his career.

Softly he knocked before opening the door.

The room was dark; blinds closed, bedside lamps off, and the standard perimeter lighting was off when it shouldn’t have been.

Kita slipped into the room and went to the bed and patted around in the darkness, but he only found an empty sheets. He quickly turned on the bedside lamp.

Rain was missing.

Kita hurried from the room and ducked into Lucien and Dae-Ho’s room since he was warned they occasionally shared a bed when upset or had been drinking.

Lucien’s eyes shot open and his gun was suddenly in hand and pointed at the doorway, the location of the breach. “What’s wrong?” he asked, lowering his gun when he saw it was his brother.

“Seon Rain isn’t in here?” Kita asked, looking to Dae-Ho’s bed but the young man was snoring and alone.

Lucien shook his head. “Let me put some pants on and I’ll check with security to see if they’ve seen her.”

“I’ll check the windows.”

“We’re twenty-eight stories up,” Lucien pointed out. “And you think she took the windows?”

Kita turned on his heels. “Yes,” he grumbled under his breath, hurrying back to Rain’s room.

After turning on all of the lights, he checked under the vanity and bed before heading over to the closet and pulled the doors open.

Inside, curled up in a ball on the floor with a blanket and pillow was Rain. She was softly purring in her sleep and hands folded together under her chin as if in prayer.
