Chapter 35

It was slightly belittling that they hadn’t thought to just ask her, Rain thought. And the looks on their faces confirmed they hadn’t even thought to do just that.

They acted as if she was new to the business that practically raised her.

“Dae-Ho handles my business schedule, but I’m not ignorant to what it is he does for me,” Rain explained; her tone more than conveyed her disappointment in them.

“Get ‘em, Cousin,” Dae-Ho said, blindly patting until he found her head then patted it.

Kita joined his sister then sat next to her. “Very well, Miss Seon Rain, continue.”

Instantly Rain was blushing; it was so much harder to be irritated over the situation when he looked at her like he was now and spoke softly.

“As you learned last night, I’m highly allergic to sesames and that causes me to only eat in. I don’t eat out. I don’t like eating out-”

“Unless it is convenience store cuisine,” Kita added.

“Yes,” Rain said, blushing. “But even then I can read the ingredients and know what I can and cannot eat. When on set, I bring food instead of eating whatever is set out for the cast and crew. Dae-Ho usually runs interference for me so I can eat in private so others are none the wiser. Yes, it causes rumors about me having an eating disorder or being a snob that doesn’t want to fraternize with those I believe are beneath me on set. But it’s a risk and heartache I have to live with in order to live. When in public I won’t eat and only drink what comes in a sealed bottle because you can never be too careful.”

Lula and Kita nodded their understanding, appearing like twins.

“When I leave the house, when an engagement isn’t on the schedule, I dress how I did last night,” she continued. “Sometimes I have to bust out with a mask just in case, but overall I’m pretty much a homebody that doesn’t go out unless needed. I have no dating life, no social life, no life outside work or home. It’s safer that way, I think.”

Dae-Ho patted her head again. “You’ll get over it eventually, Cousin, and get back out there. Perhaps you can climb back in the saddle with your hot bodyguard?”

Her eyes widened and face reddened with embarrassment.

“If your cousin longs to go horseback riding there are easier ways to coordinate that then bringing a saddle home,” Kita assured them.

Lula looked at her brother with wide eyes; she couldn’t remember the last time Kita cracked a joke…

Or if he ever had.

Dae-Ho whimpered. “Seriously, Cousin, you need to mount him before I try to do just that.”

Rain softly swatted his thigh and he chuckled. “My social media and online presence is monitored and handled by Dae-Ho. My mobile phone has no apps, no games, nothing like that on it that can open me up to tracking, hacking, or viruses. I’m rather paranoid about that. I only use cash, never credit card so there’s no paper trail or trackable trends that would make me an easy target. With that said,” she paused then chewed on her bottom lip, trying to find the words. “Uncle’s concerns have merit. Dae-Ho thinks I didn’t see Ong Se-Ri and her goons down the block from the fire inspector’s building. But I did. And I know Lucien lifted my mobile phone when he caught me.”
