Chapter 183
Seoul, Korea
Lilac Suite
“I don’t like this,” Lula complained, flipping through her mobile phone and the pictures on it.
Will shrugged from the opposite end of the couch where he sat rubbing Lula’s feet. “It is their decision, and it is a calculated risk going to the very person that has gone out of their way to destroy her. But I’ll make sure you approve of the story before it is released. I have everything wired,” he reminded her, motioning towards the large television across from them.
On the screen were multiple video feeds from the cameras Lucien placed around Ong Se-Ri’s apartment.
They were watching the live feed.
“This might hurt,” he warned before digging his knuckle into the ball of her foot to work the knot out.
Lula hissed before moaning, knotting her hands in the blanket that was across her lap.
Will smiled. “Soon, Lula. When the kids are headed back, we’ll head to the bedroom and I will give you a full body massage,” he promised, kissing each of her toes, causing her to giggle. “Have you given much thought into what you’ll do once this assignment is wrapped?”
“You mean have I given much thought to your offer?” she clarified.
He nodded.
“When this assignment is over, we’ll talk, William,” Lula promised. “Much like how we need to talk about what happened in Spain,” she baited.
Will looked at her curiously. “What about Spain? I thought you enjoyed yourself.”
“I did. But I’m suspect anytime you and Luci go off together, especially when you’re off the grid,” Lula reminded him. “What were you two doing?”
“Trying to break the sound barrier in Prince Riku’s new sports car he bought solely to bed your baby brother with,” Will said. “I warned your baby brother if he broke it I wouldn’t get him a new one to replace it. Luci just needed to take a drive… I think he was getting overwhelmed with the strange family environment while on vacation.”
That was concerning.
“What do you mean?” Lula asked. “Luci never gets overwhelmed.”
“Normally,” Will said. “This assignment isn’t normal, Lula. It’s very dangerous but for very different reasons than what you’re all used to. Even your parents are here and have been running a shadow recon op (operation) behind your back,” he said.
She groaned. “Please tell me you’re screwing with me.”
“No,” Will said, reaching for his laptop on the table and clicked a few buttons before leaning back; he sent the report he complied to Lula’s mobile phone. “Your mother started before you even landed in Seoul. They were both worried you were all out of your element and without proper support. Lucien has been running interference between you and them so you didn’t know or worry about it. That’s why he needed to unwind in a way that only Lucien can.”
And now it was making sense.
While on vacation, Lucien was antsy and always trying to sneak off to do something dangerous in order to get a rush and his head back in order. Fast cars and motorcycles, skydiving, bungee jumping, and underground fight clubs helped to get him back on the task at hand, but at what cost?
“I don’t think he was expecting your mother joining him or betting against him in the underground,” Will said with a chuckle.
“Luci would have been suspicious if she hadn’t,” Lula said. “Father is usually their ringer when playing in the underground fight scene.”
“Pan Jin and Seon Rain joining Lucien bungee jumping and skydiving was a surprise,” he continued. “The look on his face when they begged to go with him.”
Lula smiled. “Kitty was not amused he had to jump out of a perfectly good plane. He hates that.”
“Agreed, but he’d never tell Rain no,” he agreed. “You hate to admit it, but Kita and Rain have chemistry and there’s something happening between them.”
Her smile fell. “Seon Rain isn’t good enough for my brother.”
“Is a hacker good enough for their sister?” Will asked, causing her to glare at him. “It isn’t your place to say who is or who isn’t good enough for their heart, Lula. Just as it isn’t their place to say who is good enough for their sister’s heart. Never have I seen your big brother smile as he does when he’s with her or appear as happy as he is.”
“Suiko will never permit him to be happy,” Lula said. “When it comes to Kita, she is out of control and dangerous. Very dangerous. Your murdered children is proof of just how dangerous she is-”
“She didn’t kill them, Amano Ryoko did without permission,” Will interrupted. “Princess Suiko is terrified of you, Lula. Never would she be foolish enough to go after you, even indirectly. I am yours, they know this, and any action against me is a direct attack against you.”
Lula smirked. “Yes, it is,” she agreed. “Should I be concerned that you look at them as if they are family now?” she asked, motioning towards the television when there was a knock at Ong Se-Ri’s apartment door.
He shook his head. “You will one day call them family, thus I call them family, Lula. They are good people, and one of them makes your brother so, so happy. I am happy that Kita is, and I am happy that my family is expanding even if Amano Ryoko is hell bent on taking my family from me. War is coming, Lula Yasuhiro, I haven’t forgotten, and I am merely taking my time in order to align all of my pieces before bringing this war to the Imperial Family.”
She sighed. “I know. I thank you for giving me time before making me choose between my heart and family.”
“Never would I,” he promised. “I am just warning you that I haven’t forgotten, regardless of how many times you try to distract me with your boobies.”
Lula snorted and kicked at him. “You are an idiot.”
“Genius, but agree to disagree,” he teased with a wink.
“Uh huh,” she said. “Pay attention so you know what to do next.”
“Yes, Dear,” Will said with a smile before kissing her foot again.
