Chapter 139

International Air
Private Jet

Once they were at cruising altitude, Lucien released Pan Jin’s hand and gave her a reassuring smile.

“The flight will be smoother now until we start our descent,” Lucien promised.

“Thank you,” Pan Jin whispered, nervously tucking her hair behind her ears.

Lucien winked with a smile, causing her to blush. “What happened before you got to the airfield?” he asked, turning to the only person in the vicinity that was with Will when whatever it was that happened occurred. “What did you hear? I don’t understand what Will was going on about, but Lula did,” he said, looking to the back of the jet and the closed bedroom doors.

That, Kita wanted to know as well.

Dae-Ho made a face. “I don’t know. One minute he was fighting with his Board of Directors, and then we were getting ready to go to the market after I accidentally gave him a brilliant idea and way to give it to the Board. Then, his phone beeped with some kind of warning and he was back on his laptops and mumbling.”

“What was he mumbling about?” Lucien pressed.

He shrugged. “I don’t know. Will went from mumbling to speaking eloquently as he scolded someone. It was hard to follow. My Japanese isn’t that good, then he was screaming in something I couldn’t understand in general.”

Lucien sighed. “Tamil is his native tongue, but he speaks over a dozen languages… He learned them in order to impress my sister.”

Dae-Ho, Pan Jin, Rain, and Tae-il all sighed with goofy smiles.

That was a very romantic gesture.

Kita shook his head; romance was overrated and nothing but trouble.

Then something registered with him.

“Wait. Japanese?” Kita asked, looking to his brother. “Not Russian?”

Lucien shook his head with much reluctance. “It was not the Russians that targeted Will this time, Brother,” he confirmed; that, Lucien had already figured out.

Kita looked out the window, his hands clenching into fists on his lap, his jaw clenching.

Rain looked from Lucien to Kita then she gasped, her hands covering her mouth.

“Was it Oni?!” Rain asked in a panic.

Kita’s nostrils flared and his body tensed.

Lucien cocked an eyebrow; that wasn’t right.

There is no way his brother would have told Seon Rain about the Devil that haunted and stalked him. It was like pulling teeth to get even a hint as to what transpired in Japan that brought his brother home to France. It was months before the few words of Japan left Kita’s lips, and those were slips of the tongue that Lucien was impressively good at causing.

But to hear that Seon Rain, their charge, knows of the one his brother only refers to as Oni, wasn’t possible!

Unless…

Kita had truly fallen for Seon Rain.

Tenderly Rain caressed Kita’s head, causing him to grudgingly look at her.

“You can’t blame yourself for Oni’s actions,” she whispered, tears flooding her eyes. “I know what that is like. And wasn’t it you that told me it was foolish to harbor guilt for something that was beyond my control?” she asked with a forced smile.

Kita shook his head then got to his feet and headed to the bathroom and slammed the door shut behind him.

Rain shuddered, wiping away the tears that stained her cheeks.

“How do you know about the Devil?” Lucien asked.

Rain merely shook her head; it was no one’s business but she and Kita’s as to how she knew.

What she and Kita talk about in private was private, regardless of his siblings knowing, she wouldn’t break the trust he put in her.

Rain would never do anything to hurt Kita or break his trust.

Tae-il, sensing a fight was about to start, grabbed his bag and started rummaging through his folded clothes. “Myo Mi-Sun, Pan Jin, here,” he said, offering each of them something more comfortable to change into. “It’ll be an agonizingly long flight if you stay in those movie set wardrobe and business clothes. They look as uncomfortable as a stage harness,” he explained with a smile.

Pan Jin bowed, taking the oversized sweatshirt before slipping out of her blazer and pulled it over her head. “Thank you, Sir.”

Rain looked from the shirt and pair of cotton shorts he had given her to wear.

“You’ll need help getting that dress unzipped,” Lucien said with a smirk. “Kita will help you, unless of course you want me to assist with it,” he mused, wagging his brows.

Rain glared at him and unbuckled her seatbelt. “You are such a child sometimes,” she scolded before heading to the bathroom.

“Uh huh. If that’s the case why are you blushing?” he teasingly called out after her before Rain slipped inside the bathroom, closing the door behind her.

The smile fell from Lucien’s face.

“What is going on?” Dae-Ho demanded in a whisper.

Lucien shook his head. “You know Will grew up on the streets. He was orphaned at a very young age; Father was English military, didn’t stick around, and Mother was a sex worker that died when he was merely a boy. When he got older and started getting money from hacking, he never kept it. When I flip him crap about being a modern Robinhood, there’s a reason for it. Will took care of the orphans on the streets, the homeless, and the elderly and disabled. That’s why the police could never catch him.”

Pan Jin gasped; she didn’t know of Will’s background.

“Because the villager and those running the streets protected him,” Dae-Ho surmised.

Lucien nodded. “Exactly. Will’s a good guy, just troublesome when bored. Those that he took under his hacking wing, he took care of and helped them become more and legitimized them and their skillset. Will called them ‘his children’, and someone with ties to Kita’s past just killed Will’s children. I don’t know what happened or why, but what I do know is war will ensue. I just don’t know which of my siblings will be the one waging that war.”
