Chapter 151
Firenze, Florence
Morosini Villa
“Do you think they are dead?” Tae-il whispered.
Dae-Ho shrugged.
The two stood in the occupied third story suite, looking at the two on the floor fast asleep. Lula sent them up to get the other two for lunch now that Lucien and Pan Jin had figured out what to make with whatever they procured from the village yesterday.
The two didn’t expect to find what they did.
Not that they knew what it is they found exactly.
The bed was empty and bedding was missing.
They thought Kita and Rain had gotten up early and headed out already. But when they followed the sound of soft snoring to the other side of the bed, and found the two they were looking for, it raised many question that Dae-Ho didn’t want to know the answer to.
Kita was on his back, softly snoring, his hand resting on top of the one on his chest over his heart. Curled up next to him was Rain; her face was nuzzled against the side of his neck, her arm was wrapped around him, hand under his on his chest, and her leg was throw over his hips keep her as close to him as possible.
The both looked strangely at peace and happy.
“I’m conflicted,” Dae-Ho whispered. “That’s my cousin, and she’s sleeping with a guy.”
Tae-il shook his head. “She’s sleeping with a smile, and so is he. What’s wrong with that?”
“He is her bodyguard.”
“Yes, and?” he rhetorically asked. “A bodyguard that would protect her with his life. That’s what every girl and guy wants. Protection. When you don’t have it, you want it. I know what that’s like. Last night we slept on the floor in front of the fireplace. There was no reason to light a fire other than to light one, and we slept in each other’s arms… I felt, for the first time in my life, protected and at peace. That was because of you.”
Dae-Ho looked over at him. “I didn’t do anything other than cuddle you.”
“And it was the most romantic thing I’ve ever experienced,” Tae-il said, as if it were obvious. “Leave them alone, let Lucien know so Lula doesn’t come storming in here, and just let them sleep. They’re exhausted.”
Dae-Ho made a face; he didn’t like the idea of his cousin sleeping, platonically or romantically, with her bodyguard.
But never had he seen her look so peaceful.
“Fine, but only because you went guilt trip-romantic on me,” he grumbled, taking Tae-il’s hand in his and they headed from the room.
Tae-il chuckled. “It isn’t a guilt trip if it is true. It was unbelievably romantic, and now I have to top it. Isn’t that what dating is supposed to be? See who can out do the other?”
Dae-Ho shook his head. “No. That’s what people say and think it’s supposed to be, but it isn’t. Dating is supposed to be about a meeting of the minds and hearts. My parents were never like that and I wish they were. My mother wanted better all the time. Nothing Dad ever did was good enough for her, and no matter how hard Dad tried she was never happy. I vowed to never be in a relationship like that.”
His face dropped. “I insulted you.”
“No,” Dae-Ho assured him, squeezing his hand. “I really didn’t think about it like that until Cousin answered on Pan Jin’s little Q & A about the perfect date. With the right person, it’s effortless. I want effortless. Making a fire when we didn’t need one, opening the window because we got it too damn hot in there, just cuddling and talking all night was the perfect first date. And I want more of those effortless, perfect dates with you.”
Tae-il smiled. “Really?”
He nodded. “Really. I like the way I feel when I’m with you. I want to be a better person with you and for you. You’ve had to pretend to be someone and something you’re not for years, and it breaks my heart that you’ve had to do that. I don’t want you thinking or feeling you have to be someone else when we’re together.”
“Aww,” Lucien cooed. “That’s so romantic. Are you two officially a couple? You didn’t do anything nasty in the guestroom did you? There is no maid service.”
Pan Jin smacked Lucien upside the head. “Don’t be a diva and rude. They make a cute couple, one that will cause an uproar when eventually made public, but that’s their problem. Where is Myo Mi-Sun?”
“They’re sleeping still,” Tae-il said.
Lucien gave him a look. “You went into the room and Kita didn’t pull a gun on you?” he asked.
They shook their heads.
“He’s sound asleep,” Dae-Ho said. “Didn’t even stir.”
Lucien stepped around them then took the stairs three at a time to the third floor.
“What is that all about?” Pan Jin asked.
Dae-Ho shook his head. “Kita is a really light sleeper… Unless hungover. I’ve had a gun pulled on me a few times when I thought he was sleeping. Even Lucien gets a gun pulled on him when he thinks his brother is sleeping. We had a conversation not more than three feet from them and they didn’t wake up and no gun was pulled.”
Lucien hurried back down the stairs, pocketing his mobile phone. “Let’s go, Kids,” he said, motioning towards the exit. “We’ll grab something to eat in the village then go shopping. Hurry, let’s go.” He pushed them towards the exit.
“You’re going to get us shot, aren’t you?” Pan Jin complained.
“Yeah, I am,” he said with a smile, shoving them out the door then closed it behind them.
That wasn’t exactly why he was herding them out the door.
When he saw Rain in Kita’s arms, both fast asleep, he knew he didn’t want to be anywhere in the vicinity once Kita woke up because he’d be an insufferable prick because he let his guard down.
And that, Lucien didn’t want to be subjected to.
