Chapter 50

Yeonhui-Dong, Korea
Blue Lantern and Seishu-Sushi House

When the movie was over, Rain finished the last of the sake then smiled wide.

“How someone so small can drink so much and still be upright is beyond me,” Kita said, watching her sway in place. “Are you going to be okay to walk?”

Rain snorted. “Of course I can walk. I can out walk you any day, Mister Kita Yasuhiro,” she scoffed, getting to her feet. “See, told you I could walk,” she said before falling backwards to the floor. “Okay, I can stand but not walk or stay standing.”

Kita laughed, watching her.

“You totally should have caught me,” she complained, kicking at him. “You’re faster than a speeding bullet, so that leads me to believe you let me fall on purpose. Admit it. You’re mad because I’ve refrained from hugging you as I warned I’d do.”

“Sure, we’ll go with that,” he said then chuckled when she kicked at him again.

Normally he would have caught her, but he knew she would hit the pillows covering the floor and not injure herself. Truth was, he wasn’t in much better shape than she was!

The one drink he said he’d have turned into two, then eight, and soon they put down ten bottles of sake between them. He would be feeling it in the morning, there was no question about that since he wasn’t a drinker, but he wasn’t going to worry about that at the moment.

The problem they now had was how to get back to the hotel since he was in no shape to drive.

“I think I’m going to sleep here tonight,” Rain said. “Because I really don’t think I can move.”

Kita nodded his agreement. “I’ll get us a ride,” he said, pulling his mobile phone out; he had ten missed calls and twenty-four unread text messages.

“That’s concerning,” he commented, calling Lula back.

“But we can just sleep here tonight,” Rain whined. “It’s so comfy, and it isn’t like I’d try to seduce you or anything. Close mouth kisser, remember?”

“Yes, I remember,” he said, the other line picking up on the first ring.

“Are you okay?” Lula demanded.

Kita snorted. “Of course. I’m faster than a speeding bullet, apparently.”

There was silence on the other line.

“Were you shot at or are you drunk?” Lula reluctantly asked.

“Drunk,” Kita said. “Sake, sushi, Ryunosuke Tsukue, and a very inebriate, huggy little girl that can’t stay upright.”

Rain kicked at him again. “I haven’t hugged you yet!” she reminded him. “Keep it up and I’ll have my contract rewritten and you’ll get my tongue,” she warned.

Kita chuckled.

He could hear Lucien laughing hysterically in the background.

“Ryunosuke Tsukue?” Lula asked, confused and concerned. “Did you watch The Sword of Doom without Father?”

“Yes. It was as surprising to me as it is you,” Kita said, grabbing his shoes, his words slipping into French and Japanese.

That only happened when he drank.

“We need a ride,” he said. “But I don’t know where we are. Can you find us?” he asked as more of an afterthought.

Lula growled under her breath in irritation. “You are both grounded!” she hissed. “We’re thirty-minutes out. Stay covered because there’s a potential treat in the area.”

“Should I shoot them?” Kita asked, patting, looking for his gun.

“Ooh, can I?” Rain asked before hiccupping. “Why do you have a gun? Can I have a gun?” she asked again, hiccupping.

Lula groaned. “Dear God, don’t shoot anyone and I swear you are so grounded when you get back to the hotel, Brother!”

Kita nodded his agreement. “Blame the troublesome little girl that got me drunk, bought me dinner, and took me to the movies. She’s a bad influence.”

Rain held her hands up and gave him two-thumbs up. “Totally!” she beamed then sat up when something occurred to her. “I want to play a villain. Can you help me do that?”

Kita hung up on his sister. “I don’t know. What can I do to do that? How do I do that?”

“Was that French and Latin?” Rain asked, crawling over to him.

He blushed. “Maybe. I don’t drink for a reason. When Mother drinks, you can’t understand anything she says because she switches between languages so quickly that you can’t keep up!”

“You’re like your mom?”

“Apparently,” he offered. “What do you need? How do I vilify you… That sounded less creepy in my head.”

Rain smiled then wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him into her so they were nearly nose to nose. “You can villainize me,” she said huskily before wagging her brows.

Kita’s swallowed hard.

What did he get himself into?
