Chapter 145 The Power of the Demonic Flame (Part 1)

The Marshland Riverbeasts, each the size of a small car, charged like a fleet of runaway vehicles, shaking the ground with their combined might. The sheer momentum was awe-inspiring, even terrifying.

Ezio, stationed at a secure remove, clenched his Mithril axe, his knuckles turning pale with tension.

What was Eric planning?

These weren't just oversized lizards; they were twenty level 15 Marshland Riverbeasts, each boasting 2000 HP and enough brute force to crack the earth with a single blow. One hit from those creatures could cripple a player.

Yet, Eric remained unnervingly calm, waiting as the Riverbeasts thundered closer.

45 feet...

30 feet...

15 feet...

Just as the Riverbeasts were about to crash into him, Eric moved. He raised the Abyssal Blade, the pitch-black weapon crackling with an eerie blue light. Arcs of electricity danced along its edge, hissing like angry serpents. With a powerful swing, he unleashed its fury.

Thunderbolt!

Three bolts of lightning, thick as a man's arm, shot out, streaking towards the oncoming horde. The Riverbeasts, sensing danger, tried to veer away, but it was too late. The momentum of the charge caused a chain reaction, crushing those in front against the unyielding tide behind.

The bolts slammed into the pack.

Earsplitting squeals, like a chorus of tortured pigs, filled the air, accompanied by the pungent stench of burnt flesh.

Damage numbers, a blinding flurry of yellow and red, erupted over the Riverbeasts' heads. Each creature was hit with devastating force: -356, -481, -648. Some were even critically hit, damage exceeding a thousand, instantly dropping them to zero, their lifeless bodies collapsing mid-charge.

The remaining dozen Riverbeasts, charred and smoking, their health bars flashing red, panicked. A debuff icon appeared next to their health, indicating increased damage taken – all damage amplified by 20% for the next 20 seconds.

They scattered, desperate to escape the onslaught.

Eric didn't hesitate. He leaped into the air, the Silverlake Gleam glowing a brilliant blue, striking down with the force of a thunderbolt. Inferno Thunderstorm detonated in the heart of the fleeing pack, engulfing them in a maelstrom of fire and lightning.

With the damage amplification, the attack dealt over nine hundred damage, instantly obliterating the remaining Riverbeasts.

The massive creatures crashed to the ground, shaking the earth like a meteor shower of flesh and bone. The shockwave from the impact ripped through the surrounding trees, snapping branches and sending leaves swirling into the air.

Ezio, watching from afar, was speechless.

The sheer power, both visual and physical, was staggering.

To inflict over a thousand damage on level 15 Marshland Riverbeasts in a single hit, wiping out the entire pack in two moves – what kind of monstrous attack was that?

Against ordinary players, it would be overkill.

He wondered if they were even playing the same game. The difference in their power wasn't a gap; it was a chasm, a difference in their very existence within Divine Realms: Legends.

"Ezio, loot. I'm going to help Tonny," Eric instructed, already dashing off after the Steelhide Riverbeast.

Ezio, still in shock, could only nod, convinced for a moment that he had imagined the entire spectacle. But the smoldering corpses of the Riverbeasts, the scattered loot glinting on the damp earth, reminded him that this was no illusion.

He checked his System notifications and his experience bar and was once again floored.

System: [Defeated Marshland Riverbeast 7 levels above, experience gain increased by 700%, received 1650 experience points.]

The notifications continued, his experience bar skyrocketing, reaching 69% of level 8. The experience gain was astronomical.

They had to be incredibly careful killing level 8 monsters, each kill netting them a paltry amount of experience. It took them an hour to make any significant progress. Yet, Eric had wiped out a horde of level 15 creatures in a matter of seconds, and the shared experience was still substantial.

Now, Ezio understood how Eric leveled up so quickly.

His respect for Eric deepened, a touch of awe entering his eyes. Following a powerhouse like Eric, his future seemed limitless. Even if he never reached Eric's level, with enough effort, he could still become a true force to be reckoned with.

Meanwhile, Tonny was having a field day kiting the Steelhide Riverbeast, its health steadily dwindling under his relentless assault.

However, the elite Riverbeast had a high HP pool and a fast regeneration rate, recovering a significant chunk of health every 5 seconds. Tonny's damage output was low, so it was a war of attrition.

But he was enjoying every second of it, each Shadow Bolt hitting its mark, fueling his excitement.

In Divine Realms: Legends, taking down higher-level monsters was a badge of honor, and here he was, soloing a level 15 elite. The bragging rights alone were worth the effort.

"Tonny, Diabolic Lash," Eric's voice came through the party chat.

"On it!" Tonny replied, knowing it was time to finish the beast off.

As he finished casting, nine blackthorns shot out, ensnaring the Steelhide Riverbeast's legs, significantly slowing its movements. However, the creature was incredibly strong, quickly snapping one of the thorns. The remaining eight wouldn't hold it for long.

Eric, utilizing the Wind-chasing Sword, blurred past the creature, his blade flashing three times in quick succession.

Each strike only registered 22 damage, surprising even Eric.

The Steelhide Riverbeast lived up to its name. Its physical defense was incredible. Its steel-like hide reduced all physical damage by 70%, meaning even Eric's attacks were reduced to a fraction of their normal power. An ordinary player would be lucky to inflict more than two or three points of damage, not even enough to outpace its regeneration.

But Eric wasn't done. He unleashed another Thunderbolt, the three bolts slamming into the creature for -125, -160, and -211 damage. The Riverbeast roared in fury, turning to charge at Eric.

However, its movements were hampered by the thorns, allowing Eric to dodge the attack easily and continue his assault. He cycled through his skills, but the damage remained disappointingly low.

Frustrated, the Steelhide Riverbeast reared back, preparing to unleash its trump card: Warlord's Onslaught.

Warlord's Onslaught was a powerful area-of-effect attack, capable of stunning all targets within a 45-foot radius for 5 seconds. It was a devastating move.

Eric, quick as a flash, reacted instantly, casting Abyssal Bind. The spell slammed into the Riverbeast, interrupting its attack and immobilizing it.

At the moment when Eric believed the peril to have subsided, a surge of icy coldness overwhelmed him. He discovered that he was fixed in place, immobilized, with his skills frozen.

"Necrotic Snares, a tier-one spell," Eric realized with a jolt. He recognized the spell instantly, and it wasn't something the Steelhide Riverbeast was capable of casting.

"That's right. A little surprise, just for you. Enjoy the experience," a voice hissed from behind him. A figure materialized from the shadows – CelestialParagon, the Assassin, his silver-white dagger plunging towards Eric's back.

The ambush attack landed, dealing a devastating 357 damage.
