Chapter 147 The Power of the Demonic Flame (Part 3)
CelestialParagon stumbled back, fear creeping into his eyes as he saw the azure flame dancing in Eric's hand. It was small, but the heat radiating from it was intense, almost suffocating.
But it was too late to pull back. His attack was already in motion.
In a flash, Frost Azure Flame engulfed Eric, turning him into a living inferno.
The Assassin's dagger plunged into Eric's back.
"You... You can move!" CelestialParagon gasped, his voice laced with disbelief.
Top-tier players operated on razor-thin margins of timing, their reactions measured in tenths of a second.
CelestialParagon was certain that the 6-second duration of Necrotic Snares hadn't expired yet. Yet, Eric had somehow managed to use Swordsoar Ascension to deflect his finishing blow, Bonecleave.
"Enjoyed yourself, did you?" Eric said, his voice cold, a chilling smile playing on his lips. "Now it's my turn."
The Abyssal Blade, now wreathed in azure flames, slashed towards CelestialParagon, leaving a trail of fire in its wake.
"You're at less than half health. You think you can beat me?" CelestialParagon scoffed, raising his daggers to counter the attack.
At the instant their weapons collided, a mask of astonishment traversed CelestialParagon's visage.
It felt like he was trying to overpower a raging bear, not a man. The sheer force behind the blow numbed his arms, forcing him to stagger back.
"How is he this strong?" The last time they had fought, Eric hadn't possessed this terrifying strength. Now, with his improved gear and enhanced attributes, the difference in their power was staggering.
His ambush had failed. CelestialParagon knew he couldn't win in a direct confrontation. He needed to retreat and find another opportunity.
Eric, pushing CelestialParagon back, quickly downed a basic recovery potion, his health shooting back up over 700.
"CelestialParagon, you're not as tough as I thought. Two ambushes, and you couldn't finish me off. Now it's my turn. You're not getting away this time," Eric said, his voice calm, but his eyes were cold as he stared down the Assassin.
He had to give CelestialParagon credit. The Assassin was skilled and patient. He had stalked him, waiting for him to drop his guard during the fight with the Steelhide Riverbeast, and had almost killed him.
Unfortunately for CelestialParagon, he hadn't anticipated the effects of Frost Azure Flame, which had shortened the duration of Necrotic Snares. Otherwise, Eric would be dead.
But now, Eric was back at full strength, empowered by Frost Azure Flame, his attack power boosted by 20%. This wasn't a fight CelestialParagon could win.
"Don't get cocky. You got lucky, that's all. Next time, you won't be so fortunate. And as for keeping me here? You couldn't do it then, and you can't do it now," CelestialParagon spat, his pride wounded. Eric's confidence, his claim that he could kill him, ignited a fire in his chest. He would plan, he would prepare, and next time, he would leave Eric utterly defenseless.
"Eric, I'm ready," Tonny called out, his vision restored. He glared at CelestialParagon, his hands already glowing as he prepared to unleash Diabolic Lash.
Eric shook his head. "Stand down, Tonny. I've got this."
"But Eric, he's an Assassin. He's got escape skills, he's fast..." Tonny had seen what a skilled Assassin could do. Without the right countermeasures, they were practically untouchable.
"Don't worry, he's not going anywhere."
"If you say so..." Tonny hesitated but relented.
Dealing with someone like CelestialParagon wasn't just about brute force. You had to get in their head, make them angry, make them reckless. That's what Eric was counting on.
"Big words. Let's see you back them up," CelestialParagon snarled, his eyes burning with fury.
"Gladly," Eric said, a cold smile spreading across his face. He lunged forward, his Wind-chasing Sword a blur.
Eric was already incredibly fast, but with Wind-chasing Sword, his speed became almost supernatural. He was upon CelestialParagon in an instant, six sword strikes aimed at vital points.
"So fast!" CelestialParagon barely had time to react, desperately parrying the blows with his daggers.
Clang!
Empowered by Frost Azure Flame, Eric's attacks were relentless. CelestialParagon was immediately on the defensive, struggling to block and evade, each blow pushing him further back.
He hadn't even used any skills yet, and already he was losing. After only a few exchanges, one of Eric's attacks slipped through his guard, dealing over three hundred damage.
"Damn it!" CelestialParagon had hoped to at least land a few blows and knock Eric down a peg. Instead, he was being completely outclassed. His pride as a top player refused to accept that he was losing in a straight fight.
He saw another attack coming, a flaming blade aimed at his chest. He gritted his teeth and used a skill to block, stopping the attack just in time.
Another hit like that, and it would be over.
"I have to retreat. The difference in our stats, his attack power... It's too much." The brief exchange had shown CelestialParagon the true gulf in their abilities. The burning azure flame was a nightmare, eating away at his equipment's durability with every hit. His Mithril daggers were holding up, but his armor, merely Dark Iron level, had lost a quarter of its durability from a single strike. If this continued, his gear would be destroyed, leaving him exposed. He turned to flee.
"You're not getting away."
Eric was relentless. He activated Zephyr Stride, his movements becoming a blur as he closed the distance. Sixteen sword strikes, a whirlwind of fire and steel enveloped CelestialParagon.
"Damn it!" CelestialParagon knew he couldn't block them all. He activated Galestride, granting him 1 second of invincibility, just enough time to escape the onslaught. His speed surged as he vanished into stealth.
"Look! You can't escape." Eric leaped into the air, the Silverlake Gleam blazing with thunderous energy. He slammed it into the ground, aiming just ahead of where CelestialParagon had vanished.
Inferno Thunderstorm!
CelestialParagon knew the power of that attack. He activated Vanish again, the brief invincibility protecting him from the blast and the stun that followed.
He had survived, but he was out of life-saving skills. He spotted a nearby tree and prepared to jump, just like last time, using the terrain to escape Eric's pursuit.
But he couldn't move. His feet were frozen solid, his body locked in place, his stealth broken.
"I. Told. You." Eric's voice was laced with icy satisfaction. The Frostbite Grenade had worked perfectly. He unleashed another sixteen sword strikes, aiming for the kill.
This time, CelestialParagon had no escape. He raised his daggers, desperately trying to block the onslaught.
Two swords... Four swords... Six swords...
He managed to deflect eleven of the strikes, but it was too much. The remaining sword shadows pierced his defenses, each hit dealing three to four hundred damage, and his equipment's durability plummeting with each blow.
Before his health bar could hit zero, his armor shattered, the last vestiges of its durability gone.
CelestialParagon roared in frustration and despair.
All his hard-earned gear was gone. The only solace was that his precious Mithril daggers were still intact.
CelestialParagon died with unwillingness, collapsing to the ground.
"I told you, you can't escape," Eric said, watching the Assassin's life force fade away. He spotted a silver dagger on the ground where CelestialParagon had fallen and picked it up.
"This will make a fine addition to my collection."
