Chapter 69 Insanity
In the real world, the sky gradually darkened as the sun set, casting a warm glow as it descended in the western horizon. However, in Divine Realms: Legends, all players were eagerly awaiting the rising of the sun, symbolizing a new day full of adventures and possibilities.
Willowbrook Town was brightly lit, almost like daytime. The trade street was bustling with players. Compared to the previous day, there were even more players in Willowbrook Town, many of whom were level 0 newcomers.
After two days of open beta, many people had noticed the unique aspects of Divine Realms: Legends. Besides the numerous joys outside of combat, the combat itself was incredibly engaging. With the escalation of monster levels, the battles took on a more realistic approach, deviating from the traditional turn-based system where one simply exchanged blows with the monsters. It felt more like real-world competitive fighting.
This was an era of fitness mania, where people were obsessed with combat tournaments in real life. They were trendy.
Everyone craved an adrenaline-pumping battle, especially against skilled experts, in pursuit of that exhilarating and nerve-wracking sensation. It was simply irresistible, and Divine Realms: Legends provided all of that without any real-life danger.
Furthermore, Divine Realms: Legends offered thrilling adventures and an abundance of uncharted territories, enticing players with countless unknowns waiting to be discovered and explored.. With double the real-life time, many players wished they could stay in Divine Realms: Legends forever, living out their second life. This attracted a large number of people to play Divine Realms: Legends. Additionally, more and more virtual game companies, recognizing the irreversible trend, declared bankruptcy and prepared to enter Divine Realms: Legends for development. This forced some players who didn't want to abandon their old games to enter Divine Realms: Legends, significantly increasing the player base.
As soon as Eric returned to Willowbrook Town, he received a bunch of System notifications.
Almost all of them were auction house sales notifications, giving him over 500 silver coins, which equaled five gold coins.
Not long ago, he had just put three gold coins up in the virtual trading center, and within a day, he had gained another five gold coins. Most of this money came from guilds that had painstakingly acquired it, only to end up contributing it all to him.
Now, in the entire Silvervale City area, there was probably no player wealthier than Eric, not even the leaders of top-tier guilds.
But this was just the tip of the iceberg; Eric's real money-making moment was just beginning.
Eric proceeded to transfer all the items from his backpack into storage, with no intention of selling them at present. He opted to retain them for future use.. After all, gems and skill books were hard currency that would never depreciate, unlike equipment that quickly lost value as players leveled up.
Then, Eric resumed his old trade. Nighttime was the best time for business, and with dawn approaching, he put his tasks aside and set up a stall to collect Stone Materials, Magic Essence, Sturdy Stones, and card sets.
Since he had collected these items a few times before, many players would deliberately save them, waiting for Eric to collect them. Now, with just a shout, a bunch of players would come running.
While Eric gathered materials, he eavesdropped on the conversations of nearby stall players.
"The Assassin Alliance really shined this time, completing the Uprising of the Tiny Murloc quest and earning a lot of guild honor. It won't be long before the Assassin Alliance can upgrade to a level 2 guild."
"I heard something big happened in the capital region. The leader of the top-tier guild Galaxy Federation completed a major quest and has been promoted to a first-class citizen. He's close to becoming a noble. Once he has noble status, guild honor will be trivial. As a noble, he can go to the military camp and Town Hall for guild quests anytime, quickly surpassing the Assassin Alliance. With the many privileges of the nobility, the accumulated advantage is enormous. Right now, Galaxy Federation is already ahead of Devouring Serpents. When the battle for the capital happens, Galaxy Federation will likely come out on top."
"What you're talking about is nothing. The hottest topic now is the showdown between the mysterious blacksmith and Hammer Trader."
"Who doesn't know that? Probably everyone in the Silvervale City area knows by now. However, to my surprise, the outcome was swiftly determined, and even more unexpectedly, Hammer Trader emerged as the victor. Luckily, I was smart enough to borrow money to buy a Glowing Chestplate. Lots of people are offering high prices for it now. I can make three silver coins just by flipping it."
"That's right. The Glowing Chestplate is awesome in both attributes and design. The cost must be high, and it was sold at a low price to compete with Hammer Trader. Constant losses were unsustainable, so they lost in the end. Unfortunately, there's no more equipment for sale now. Otherwise, I would have borrowed money to buy one too. Now, Hammer Trader is riding high, basking in glory, and his fame is skyrocketing. He's even insulting the mysterious blacksmith on the forum, calling him a coward who doesn't dare to compete. Those top-tier guilds will definitely invite him to increase their guild's reputation and influence. Hammer Trader is probably negotiating contracts right now."
"Being the chief blacksmith of a top-tier guild is a drool-worthy position. But we can only envy it. Without the design for Bronze Equipment, even if I went bankrupt, I'd still compete with Hammer Trader. Getting that chief position would ensure a bright future, with luxury cars and beautiful women at my disposal."
Hearing this, Eric frowned slightly and then opened the official forum.
Sure enough, Hammer Trader was mocking and insulting him.
"Mysterious blacksmith, aren't you supposed to be amazing? Why are you hiding now? If you've got the guts, let's keep competing! I'll crush you, you heartless blacksmith."
Seeing these low-level tactics, Eric smiled calmly. He had to admire Hammer Trader's madness for fame, using any means necessary, just like in his previous life. Hammer Trader had betrayed his entire guild to become the chief blacksmith of Supremacy Alliance. Having gathered all the necessary materials, Eric proceeded to make his way towards the auction house.
Thanks to Hammer Trader's antics, the Glowing Chestplate was now well-known. It was time to start the next money-making phase.
At this stage, most ordinary players were already level 3, many high-level players were level 4, and some experts had likely reached level 5. Ordinary players couldn't afford the Glowing Chestplate, and only high-level players could borrow money to buy one. For experts, the Glowing Chestplate was becoming less valuable, as many items in level 5 dungeons surpassed it.
In other words, the Glowing Chestplate was no longer highly profitable. Guilds were the main buyers of equipment, and ordinary players couldn't afford it. Only a few wealthy players might buy it for fun, but they were scarce.
Eric entered the auction house, which was packed with people. He found a corner, quietly opened the auction house display, and put up twenty Glowing Chestplate designs with a starting price of 30 silver coins, selling one every half hour.
He didn't want to sell them all at once, as bulk sales wouldn't fetch high prices. Only through hungry marketing could he achieve maximum benefits. Let the guilds fight over these twenty designs slowly.
After clearing the accumulated Sturdy Stones and card sets from the auction house, Eric left and headed to the library.
