Chapter 251 Admiring Strength is Human Nature
Ken's cold reprimand left Katherine silent for a long time.
Katherine had never thought that the always doting Uncle Ken would say such things, and speak so poorly of Eric. There was clearly a deep misunderstanding, and someone must have been stirring the pot.
"Ken, who told you this?" Katherine didn't immediately refute; she wanted to get to the bottom of it.
"Who said it doesn't matter. Katherine, you are not allowed to associate with people like Eric anymore. This is also Robert's decision." Ken knew that Katherine was currently infatuated and wouldn't listen to anything he said, so he needed to cut to the chase. He would soon meet Eric to ensure he stayed away from Katherine.
Katherine found it both funny and frustrating. She knew Ken meant well, but her relationship with Eric was clearly not what Ken thought. They were just classmates, not as inseparable as Ken seemed to believe. She couldn't help but laugh, "Ken, since when did you start covering for others? Let me guess... it must be Bob."
"That's right, it is Bob." Ken didn't deny it; instead, he admitted it straightforwardly. "Eric is just a nobody. I think Bob is a good kid. He's not only good-looking and ambitious but also skilled. Now that Divine Realms: Legends is booming, I heard Bob is a high-ranking member of ShadowForge Guild. He has a good vision for the future. Why would you choose a nobody over such a promising young man? Even if it's you, I'll side with Robert on this matter."
"Ken, you really misunderstood. There's nothing between me and Eric." Katherine smiled bitterly. Bob's actions made her angry, but she was also relieved. Thanks to Eric, she finally saw Bob's true colors.
"Misunderstanding? I have sharp eyes; I know very well. In any case, it's impossible for Eric to come in. I have that authority." Ken wouldn't believe Katherine. He knew she was smart from a young age and wouldn't be fooled this time.
Ken wasn't a shrewd businessman, nor did he manage the group. He was a martial arts enthusiast who later started managing the security department of the Carey Group. The real owner of the entire Carey Group was Katherine's father, Robert.
So Ken always liked future martial artists like Bob because only powerful men could protect their women. But Ken had thoroughly investigated Eric and knew he was often bullied. Such a person was unreliable, so Ken was firmly opposed this time.
While Ken and Katherine were talking, Bob, who was eavesdropping outside the door, was secretly delighted.
He couldn't beat Eric openly, but he could ruin him secretly. With Ken's strong opposition and having already informed Robert, both of them were firmly against Eric. Even if Eric charmed Katherine, they could never be together. Once he rose in ShadowForge Studios and became a core member, Robert and Ken would likely support him and Katherine being together.
With the financial power of the Carey Group, he could fully control ShadowForge Studios. Then Eric, Lucas, or Jack would be nothing to him.
"Heath, you did well this time. I'll put in a good word for you with Lucas. Once you graduate, come to ShadowForge Studios." Bob patted the respectful Heath beside him, satisfied.
"This is just a small matter. I'll need your support in the future, Bob." Heath smiled.
The student council president was indeed influential at Evergreen University, but outside of it, he had no power. No one would care. Heath agreed to Bob's request for his future. He didn't register Eric, and Ken had also instructed not to let Eric in. It was a win-win situation.
However, Heath and Bob didn't know that outside the event venue, it was bustling. The Golden Coast Gala was already famous at Evergreen, attracting many reporters and media, not to mention onlookers.
But now it was even more crowded, with people thinking a world-class celebrity had appeared. People lined up, wondering what was happening.
"Hey, what's going on up ahead? Why are so many people in line?"
"You don't know? Guild of Aether Wing is recruiting."
"Guild of Aether Wing? What's that?"
"It's the most powerful and mysterious guild in Eldoria."
"Eldoria? What's that?"
"Come on, haven't you even played Divine Realms: Legends? If you don't know this, you better not join the crowd!"
Most passersby were on office jobs, busy with their nine-to-five schedule and had no time for games. They naturally didn't know. But seeing hundreds of people in line, with the number growing, many non-players of Divine Realms: Legends were curious about the game's influence.
It was just a guild recruiting, yet hundreds were signing up, with the number rapidly increasing. Soon, it might exceed a thousand. Even TV reporters were there for live coverage.
What was going on?
"It's just a game guild recruiting. You don't earn a penny, yet you line up so hard. Ridiculous," a passing white-collar elite mocked.
His words instantly drew disdainful and contemptuous looks from many in line.
"This idiot doesn't even understand the significance of a Divine Realms: Legends guild recruitment. No wonder he's destined for a life of toil."
"Ignore him. He doesn't know that a guild recruitment is for the guild's studio to hire professional players. Such white-collar elites earn four to five thousand credits a month and naturally look down on us part-timers who can earn two to three thousand credits a month."
"You're mistaken. That's for peripheral members. Official members have a base salary of five thousand credits, and elite members have a base salary of ten thousand credits. This time, they're recruiting a lot: three hundred peripheral members, one hundred official members, and twenty elite members. We might have a chance."
"True. I heard core members have a base salary of fifty thousand credits. I wonder how much the top eight earn."
"I heard their annual salary is in the millions of credits. Some big corporations offered eight million credits, but none of the top eight were tempted. The financial power of Guild of Aether Wing is unimaginable."
The players in line chatted, but the white-collar elite became uneasy. After rounds of interviews and much time spent, he finally earned a monthly salary of five thousand credits after two or three years. Yet, it was less competitive than an official member's part-time job. He felt the urge to join the line.
As Eric interviewed players on the street, it also caught the attention of guests attending the event, especially those from large studios in Evergreen City and some martial artists looking to transition into Divine Realms: Legends.
"Guild of Aether Wing is here. This event was worth attending."
"Guild of Aether Wing? Let's go talk to them. This is a great opportunity for our studio. Many people and big corporations in Eldoria want to meet Aether Wing's top members but can't make it happen. We're lucky to have this chance."
