Chapter 49 A New Perspective
Everyone watched as David lay motionless on the ground, clearly unconscious. Upon hearing the martial arts instructor say that David was fine and would wake up soon but needed to go to the infirmary for some bandaging and a month-long rest, they felt relieved.
As for the citywide martial arts competition three weeks later, David could forget about participating.
All eyes turned to Eric. Seeing his slender frame unleash such terrifying power, everyone gasped. Remembering the things they had said to Eric before, cold sweat started pouring down their backs.
The boys in the class now looked at Eric with entirely different eyes. There was no more ridicule or contempt, only deep fear. Eric had taken down the third most powerful person in the entire school in one move. Who else in the school could be Eric's opponent?
If Eric decided to deal with them, the consequences would be unimaginable. And they had the audacity to give Eric's recommendation spot to Bob.
As they reached this point, they couldn't help but feel their hearts pounding.
Under the witness of the main computer, Eric retrieved his Polaris Reach gym membership card and ten thousand credits. He then glanced around the ring at the crowd. Some of the more timid boys, upon meeting Eric's deep eyes, immediately went weak at the knees, fainting and foaming at the mouth.
"Sir, something's wrong, someone fainted."
Before the sentence was finished, another boy collapsed to the ground.
The remaining boys who hadn't fainted were filled with fear. Eric was too terrifying; just one look had made two boys faint. They envied those who had fainted because at least they didn't have to endure this pressure. The air around them seemed to solidify, making it hard to breathe, and their limbs felt as heavy as lead...
Regarding the girls in the class, they were all taken aback. When Eric looked over, they quickly lowered their heads, feeling extremely uneasy, like frightened little rabbits being stared at by a big bad wolf.
Jennie was particularly shocked, her mouth agape. After rubbing her eyes and confirming that David had indeed been knocked out by Eric, she realized just how powerful Eric was. Why hadn't she noticed before?
'Being with a man like that would make me feel incredibly safe and secure.' Just thinking about it made Jennie feel happy. Money wouldn't be an issue either; with Eric's skills, he could easily make it to the top ten in the citywide martial arts competition and become a star with endorsements.
As Eric glanced over, Jennie subtly adjusted her clothes and hair, accentuating her attractiveness and revealing a plunging neckline. She softly said, "Eric, it's already noon. I know a nice restaurant with a great environment and good food. My treat. Let's go try it."
But Eric wasn't paying attention to Jennie; he was looking for Katherine. Seeing her, he walked straight over, ignoring Jennie completely.
Seeing Eric's indifferent eyes, Jennie suddenly felt as if she had lost something important. Her heart ached, and she regretted not noticing Eric back in high school.
"Katherine, here's your ten thousand credits. I'll return the remaining ten thousand as soon as possible," Eric said with a smile, handing over the money.
But Katherine didn't take it. She just blinked her big, beautiful eyes at him, looking at him as if he were a rare animal, filled with shock and joy.
"Are you really Eric?" Katherine asked softly, somewhat unsure.
During their four years in college, Eric had always been silent and aloof in her memory. He had been bullied often but never accepted help from others, like a wounded wolf licking its wounds alone.
She couldn't believe how different Eric's actions were today. Katherine now saw Eric in an entirely different perspective. He seemed to have grown from a little wolf into a dormant dragon, shocking everyone with his power. Even the third strongest in the school, David, wasn't his match. If Eric participated in the school-wide martial arts competition, he might even become the champion.
"Of course I'm Eric. Why are you asking that, Katherine? Do I look too handsome now, unlike before?" Eric joked, understanding Katherine's thoughts. Today had been too attention-grabbing, but it was unintentional.
"Stop being vain. To me, you're just so-so," Katherine immediately took the money from Eric's hand, a smile appearing on her fair face. She seemed to think of something and softly said, "In ten days, the school is organizing a networking event, and some high-level executives from well-known companies in Evergreen City will be there. You're looking for a job, right? This is an opportunity worth considering."
After saying that, Katherine thought about Eric's situation and whispered, "I can help you with the money needed to attend the event."
Eric thought for a moment. The annual networking event organized by Evergreen University was a big deal, and that person might attend. So he nodded and agreed, "Thank you. I'll go, and I'll cover the cost myself."
Hearing that Eric would go made Katherine a little happy, but knowing he would pay for himself left her feeling a bit disappointed.
The crowd overheard their conversation, especially Katherine's offer to pay for Eric's attendance. They couldn't believe their ears.
Katherine was a true beauty, though she usually didn't dress up or wear fancy clothes. But her elegant face and curvy figure were undeniable. If she spruced up her appearance a bit, even the school beauty might pale in comparison.
Many wealthy and capable guys had pursued Katherine, but she had turned them all down. Only Bob had managed to get closer to her, but even he had only made her like him a bit more. Katherine's high standards were evident. Now, her offer to Eric shocked everyone.
Who would refuse such an invitation from a beauty like Katherine?
Yet Eric politely declined her kindness.
Bob, standing nearby, felt his anger growing.
"Eric, you need to know your place. The school's networking event will have some big shots from Evergreen City. With your outfit, you might get kicked out by security and embarrass our class," Bob sneered.
"Don't worry about that," Eric turned to Bob, pointing at the ring, his eyes flashing with a cold glint. He smirked, "Didn't you say you'd teach me a lesson? This is the fighting ring. How about we have a match, and you show me how to be a man?"
"Eric! Don't go too far. I was just following the class's suggestion," Bob stammered, feeling a chill run through him. He took a step back, hesitating as he looked at Eric.
Fighting Eric was suicide. Anyone who hadn't fought before wouldn't understand the significance and terror of Eric's match with David. David had been powerfu, and even Bob knew he wasn't a match. But David had been taken down by Eric in one move. It wasn't even a fight; it was Eric toying with David.
"The class's suggestion?" Eric's gaze swept over his classmates, his voice cold, "What was your suggestion?"
No one dared side with Bob now. Even a fool could see how afraid Bob was of Eric.
"Alright, I surrender. It was my mistake. What do you want?" Bob gritted his teeth, glancing at the unconscious David on the ring. If they fought now, he wouldn't stand a chance. He didn't believe Eric would show mercy. With the way he'd offended Eric, he'd definitely end up in the hospital for a month, missing the citywide martial arts competition. That loss was unacceptable to Bob.
"The school's Polaris Reach five thousand credit voucher," Eric demanded. Polaris Reach had the best nutritionists in Evergreen City. With that voucher, he could get the nutrients he needed to quickly improve his physical condition.
Reluctantly, Bob handed over the voucher. It was worth more than ten thousand credits outside.
With the voucher in hand, Eric left the fighting ring.
Back at his rental, Eric resumed his physical training. When he was tired, he researched "Divine Realms: Legends" and Evergreen City online, preparing for his future plans.
Especially the upcoming school networking event. Eric needed to be ready with enough capital before it started, or his plans would be hard to implement.
After dinner, Eric lay on his bed, put on his "Divine Realms: Legends" helmet, and began his second day in the game.
