Chapter 399 Death Mode

SpiritSnake's voice wasn't loud, but it had a sharp edge that cut through the air.

Isabella's eyebrows furrowed slightly, a cold glint flashing in her eyes.

Jake Walton was actually targeting Scarlet.

But it made sense. Scarlet had immense potential and strength. She had never been interested in virtual games before, only starting to play because Isabella dragged her into it. Despite never training seriously, Scarlet's talent was so high that her abilities were already astonishing.

If Scarlet put in some effort, there would be few in the Devouring Serpents who could match her.

At this moment, a burly and imposing middle-aged man stepped out from the crowd, and everyone respectfully made way for him. This man was Jake Walton, the acting president of the Devouring Serpents. Even from a distance, the oppressive feeling from Jake's gaze was palpable, like a ferocious beast.

Jake was currently at level 24, wearing a top-tier level 20 Berserker Mithril set called Wind Howl, with a life-sized battle sword named Ironcleaver Sword strapped to his back, a rare Obsidian Level weapon in all of Eldoria.

"Enough, SpiritSnake, you've said too much!" Jake glanced at SpiritSnake and reprimanded him.

"Yes, President." SpiritSnake obediently stepped back behind Jake, his eyes full of reverence.

"Scarlet, I hope you consider this carefully. With Isabella, you have no future. Only by joining me can you truly shine in Divine Realms: Legends and achieve your dreams," Jake said to Scarlet with a smile.

"Give it up. I will never join you," Scarlet replied with a look of disgust. "Besides, the battle hasn't even started yet. Who knows who will win or lose? Even if we lose this time, I will leave the virtual gaming world with Isabella."

"Scarlet," Isabella felt a wave of emotion.

"With just your two level 22 recruits, I feel sorry for you," SpiritSnake sneered.

Scarlet wanted to retort but looked at Jake's team and then at her own.

It was truly pitiful.

Jake's team had four members at level 24. Besides Jake and SpiritSnake, there was BlackArrow, the third branch president of the Devouring Serpents, FlyingSerpent, the top of the Twelve Apostles, and a level 25 Shield Warrior in a black cloak, hiding his face.

Scarlet had a glimmer of hope, but seeing these people, she realized that except for BlackArrow, whom she had a 40% chance of defeating, her chances against the others were less than 30%.

And with FlyingSerpent in Jake's team, even Isabella would have just over a 50% chance of winning.

"Since everyone is here, we elders will preside over this match."

"There will be five battles, best of three wins. The final victor will become the president of the Devouring Serpents, and the loser will be permanently expelled from Divine Realms: Legends. This condition has been accepted by the main system. Additionally, the arena battle mode will be death mode, where the fight continues until one side dies. Before entering the arena, either side can choose to forfeit, avoiding the death mode penalty."

"If there are no objections, confirm your agreement. Everything will be witnessed by the main system. Once confirmed, we can start drawing lots for the matchups."

Isabella and Jake both nodded in agreement.

Neither had any objections to the death mode.

Normally, battles in the underground arena wouldn't result in death, leaving players with 1 HP. But death mode could be activated, making the battle like a wild encounter, with death penalties such as losing a level, dropping a random piece of equipment, and reducing skill proficiency. The only difference was that killing an opponent wouldn't increase one's infamy.

Eric, standing nearby, finally understood the situation after hearing the elders' explanation.

In the previous life, Isabella's mysterious departure was due to this very duel...

And in the end, Isabella lost.

As for the consequences of losing, Eric could see them clearly.

With a traitor like SpiritSnake, who would betray at a critical moment, how could Isabella win, no matter how capable she was?

Seeing Isabella's plight, Eric thought of himself.

All of this was due to misjudging people, and Eric was no exception.

After ten years of fighting in Divine Realms: Legends, he didn't lose to the enemy Supremacy Alliance but was betrayed and killed by his own people. It was truly laughable...

As Eric reminisced, the level 25 Shield Warrior on Jake's side removed his black cloak, revealing his face.

"How could it be him?"

Seeing the Shield Warrior's face, Eric was stunned.

This Shield Warrior was GrayWolfSkyborne, someone Eric had met once and remembered well. He was an absolute top-tier expert, someone Eric had wanted to recruit. But at the time, GrayWolfSkyborne was very averse to guilds, so Eric gave up. He never expected GrayWolfSkyborne to become Jake's recruit.

GrayWolfSkyborne's appearance shocked not only Eric but also Isabella, who had also tried to recruit him in Silvervale City but was rejected.

Isabella didn't know how strong GrayWolfSkyborne was, but seeing the usually proud and domineering Jake and the aloof FlyingSerpent showing him respect, it spoke volumes.

After observing GrayWolfSkyborne for a moment, Isabella's expression grew serious. She sensed an extreme danger from him, a feeling she hadn't even gotten from FlyingSerpent.

Although Isabella wanted to oppose GrayWolfSkyborne's participation, he had no reputation in Divine Realms: Legends, so opposing him was pointless.

Compared to Isabella's tense atmosphere, Jake's side was relaxed and carefree.

"What's up with Isabella? I thought she would bring some powerful experts, but she brought two level 22 recruits, one of whom is a Priest. What a disappointment," Elementalist FlyingSerpent said, eager to show off but now seeing no chance.

"Maybe my departure hit Isabella too hard, so she just found some people to fill the numbers. Otherwise, why would she bring a Priest?" SpiritSnake mocked. "Now, the only ones with any fighting chance on Isabella's side are Isabella herself, Scarlet, and FierceSnake. But aside from Isabella, Scarlet and FierceSnake have no chance of winning."

As Jake's group laughed, the system randomly selected the first match.

Everyone looked up at the large screen in the arena.

The first match: Scarlet vs. Jake.
