Chapter 381 The Ultimate Kill of Heaven and Earth
Sharon, a fourth-tier Divine Officiant, definitely had access to more information than Eric, just a regular player.
The fact that she knew about the Eternity-Sundering Relic proved it.
Eric stared at the Eternity-Sundering Relic embedded in the stone slab, deep in thought.
Now that the Eternity-Sundering Relic had awakened, he could take the inheritance trial anytime. It would be smart to build up some strength first, boosting his chances of success.
After all, it was one of the Top Ten Sacred Inheritances. Failing could have serious consequences, just like Sharon had warned.
Death!
Heaven's Favored were immortal, able to resurrect indefinitely, but for Sharon to mention death meant the cost of failure was so high that players would have no choice but to delete their characters and start over.
Waiting until he was significantly stronger before challenging the inheritance was the safest approach.
But after ten years of battling in Divine Realms: Legends, Eric knew one thing for sure.
Living in Divine Realms: Legends was like rowing upstream; you either advanced or fell behind.
Playing it safe wasn't enough. Sometimes, to break through, you had to take risks, and he didn't have the luxury of time.
Risk and opportunity went hand in hand.
The sooner he obtained one of the Top Ten Sacred Inheritances, the easier his path to godhood would be. Eric wasn't very confident about advancing to a fifth-tier profession, let alone a sixth-tier god-level profession, the pinnacle of Divine Realms: Legends.
Eric knew his limits well. His current prowess was only because he had played Divine Realms: Legends for ten years. Becoming a god wasn't something that could be achieved just by playing longer. If he could switch to one of the Top Ten Sacred Professions early and combine it with his plans and preparations, his chances of becoming a god would increase significantly.
Eric walked straight to the Eternity-Sundering Relic, grabbed the golden hilt, and tried to lift it. No matter how hard he pulled, the relic wouldn't budge. Instead, a system prompt sounded in his ear.
System: Do you accept the inheritance trial? (Remaining time: 23 hours 54 minutes)
"So that's how it is," Eric chuckled wryly.
The Eternity-Sundering Relic wasn't giving him much time to prepare.
Eric chose to accept the trial.
Immediately, the Eternity-Sundering Relic emitted a golden divine light, enveloping Eric and then swallowing him. The relic vanished from the room.
"Spatial teleportation?" Sharon watched in astonishment as Eric and the Eternity-Sundering Relic disappeared.
The entire Starview Tower was protected by a powerful barrier that nullified all teleportation magic, making it impossible to enter or leave. Yet, the Eternity-Sundering Relic had done it effortlessly.
"Hope that little fool passes the trial," Sharon smiled faintly at the spot where Eric had vanished. "Just awakening that sword weakened me this much. I'll need a long time to recover. Charging him only five hundred gold was too cheap. Next time I see him, I'll make sure to get it all back with interest."
Meanwhile, Eric had no idea what was happening.
In the blink of an eye, Eric found himself on a dimly lit plain. Swords were everywhere—floating in the sky and embedded in the ground—creating a world of blades.
In the distance, a towering mountain reached the sky, emitting a faint silver glow, the only light in the dark world.
System: Player has discovered the Source Sword Realm.
System: Player is in a special world. All communication systems are disabled, and external contact is impossible.
"Source Sword Realm, an independent world outside Divine Realms: Legends," Eric muttered, trying to open the system map, but it showed nothing. He looked around; the plain stretched endlessly, growing darker the farther it was from the mountain. "Looks like the only way out is up that mountain."
Eric examined the swords stuck in the ground. They were immovable, like buildings or trees, but unlike plants, touching the blades would cause injury. Each cut dealt 100 points of damage—not much, but enough to be deadly if accumulated.
He had to be careful not to get cut by the ground swords while walking.
The floating swords in the air posed no threat as long as he didn't fly.
But before he could think further, a few steps in, several swords fell from the sky, one grazing his arm and dealing 200 points of damage.
"Damn, it's raining swords!" Eric watched the swords embed themselves in the ground, realizing why so many were stuck there.
The falling swords from the sky dealt more damage than the ground ones.
"Do I have to dodge ground swords and watch out for falling ones?" Eric stood still, scanning for the best path up the mountain.
He stopped to find a route because moving seemed to trigger the falling swords.
"Looks like that's the setup."
After waiting a while, no more swords fell from the sky. But before he could relax, the ground swords began to tremble and sink into the earth.
Eric sensed danger, staring at the ground.
Suddenly, dozens of swords shot up from beneath him, flying into the sky.
Eric reacted quickly, flipping and jumping to avoid the swords, but then the sky swords began to fall.
"You've got to be kidding me." Eric drew his Abyssal Blade and Infernal Shadeblade, deflecting the falling swords with flashes of light, knocking them to the ground.
Eric realized this trial was designed to wear him down.
If he stayed still, the ground swords would attack periodically. If he moved, the sky swords would fall.
This relentless assault left no time for rest, keeping players in constant combat.
Eric also noticed the sky swords were becoming more accurate and faster.
"Are they trying to exhaust me to death?" Eric smirked, feeling a bit excited.
He switched the Ring of Seven Luminaries to the Ring of Wind, boosting his movement speed by 40%, attack speed by 40%, and agility by 30%, then dashed toward the mountain.
As soon as Eric moved, countless sky swords targeted him, but his speed was like the wind. He dodged many swords with sheer speed and deflected others with his enhanced attack speed, advancing steadily.
After a few minutes, Eric saw the ground ahead crack open, and silver-armored skeleton warriors emerged, exuding a menacing aura, staring at him.
Skeleton Warriors, undead creatures, elite class, level 25, 20,000 HP.
