Chapter 361 Test
"Man, Polaris Reach sure doesn't waste any time. It's only been a few days, and they've already got a ton of students here," Katherine said, watching the crowd of students filing in. She noticed Eric looking confused and decided to fill him in. "These kids are the cream of the crop from the city's participants in the State-level Youth Martial Arts Tournament. Polaris Reach brought them here to train so our city can shine in the tournament and get better rankings. The setup here is perfect for their improvement."
Eric's confusion cleared up right away.
It was indeed time for the State-level Youth Martial Arts Tournament, but he hadn't expected Polaris Reach to be so generous.
"Polaris Reach had to step up. The sudden rise of the virtual game Divine Realms: Legends has really shaken up a lot of industries, especially martial arts. A lot of folks who were into martial arts have switched to Divine Realms: Legends, causing a drop in the martial arts scene. Fewer people are willing to come and train. To counter this, Polaris Reach is pulling out all the stops to make the martial arts tournament more exciting and draw back some attention," Katherine explained.
"Fewer people are training?" Eric suddenly had an idea to boost the strength of the Guild of Aether Wing.
In his previous life, the impact of Divine Realms: Legends did hit the fitness industry hard for a while, but not this quickly. It was three to four months after the game's launch. However, as people learned more about the secrets of Divine Realms: Legends, physical training became popular again, even more so than during its peak. Business was booming, and many major guilds partnered with training centers or gyms to allow their elite members to train and improve, enhancing their performance in Divine Realms: Legends.
Some top-tier guilds even built large training facilities exclusively for their elite members.
Although the Guild of Aether Wing was still small, it would eventually need a dedicated training space as it grew stronger. While Aether Wing Studios was close to Polaris Reach Building, it wasn't a long-term solution. With the fitness industry currently in a slump, now was the perfect time for him to act.
Eric decided that partnering with Polaris Reach Fitness Center would be a great idea.
Building his own training facility would require a massive amount of money, which he didn't have. Partnering with Polaris Reach would allow the guild to start training and improving sooner without spending a fortune, while enjoying the best training environment.
As Eric pondered how to collaborate with Polaris Reach Fitness Center, a few more people walked into the testing hall.
The moment they entered, the staff at Polaris Reach stood up respectfully and hurried over to greet them.
"Manager Elliott, the selected students are all here. We've started the tests as you instructed," one of the staff members said respectfully to a burly middle-aged man in a black martial arts robe.
"Good, let them continue. I'm here to observe their progress. This State-level Youth Martial Arts Tournament is crucial for Polaris Reach's development, so we can't afford to be careless," Matt Elliott nodded and instructed his team to proceed.
"Yes, sir." The staff members quickly retreated and began the tests with the students.
With Matt's presence, the students' fighting spirit soared. They all wanted to perform well and catch Matt's attention, hoping to receive more training resources in the future.
As the tests began, many Polaris Reach members stopped what they were doing to watch. This was a rare event, as they usually only saw ordinary people casually training. These students, though young, had the skills to compete in the State-level Youth Martial Arts Tournament, making them far superior to regular folks.
Even Katherine was intrigued and insisted on watching, leaving Eric no choice but to follow her.
The first test was for punching power. An average person's punch force is around 200-300 pounds.
These students, however, all exceeded 400 pounds. One student, Mark Hughes, even reached 712 pounds, twice the strength of an average person, drawing gasps from the crowd.
Even Matt's eyes lit up, praising Mark as a talent.
The city's professional martial artists had a punch force standard of 640 pounds. A high school student surpassing that with ease indicated a bright future, with the potential to exceed 800 pounds, the benchmark for becoming a renowned martial artist in the city.
"These students are impressive. That Mark's punch force is already higher than David's. Eric, you're the hidden master in our class. Do you think he can make it to the top ten in the Youth Martial Arts Tournament?" Katherine asked curiously, turning to Eric.
She had seen Eric's skills firsthand. Even the city's undefeated champion had praised Eric and he had defeated the prodigy Lucas. Her judgment couldn't compare to his.
"It's hard to say. Winning isn't just about punch force," Eric shook his head with a wry smile. He wasn't a fortune teller; how could he predict the outcome based on one test?
Katherine nodded, agreeing with Eric's reasoning.
Next was the reaction test. Among the hundreds of students, all achieved at least a basic perfect score, with some reaching intermediate excellence. One student, Michael Brown, achieved an intermediate perfect score, impressing everyone.
Though the tests weren't over, Mark and Michael quickly became the center of attention, cherished by Matt, who immediately doubled their resources, drawing envious looks from the other students.
After the tests, Matt intended to take Mark and Michael to meet the city's best coach, whom Polaris Reach had managed to invite. But upon seeing Katherine, he stopped.
"Katherine, why didn't you tell me you were coming to Polaris Reach?" Matt approached her.
"I didn't want to bother you, Mr. Elliott," Katherine replied sweetly.
Mark and Michael, standing behind Matt, were instantly smitten by Katherine's smile. If Matt weren't there, they might have rushed forward to introduce themselves.
Matt then noticed Eric, who was preparing for his test, and asked, "Katherine, who's this?"
"This is my classmate, Eric Parker," Katherine introduced. "He's here to test his physical condition."
"Mr. Elliott, you're looking to train students for the State-level Martial Arts Tournament, right? I have a great idea to help them achieve better rankings," Katherine said with a playful smile.
"Really?" Matt's eyes lit up. The State-level Martial Arts Tournament was a big deal for Polaris Reach Fitness Center. If they could achieve good results, it would be a huge help.
"Absolutely," Katherine affirmed.
"What's the idea?" Matt asked, intrigued by Katherine's seriousness.
Katherine pointed to Eric, who was about to start his punch force test, and said proudly, "It's him."
"Him?" Matt looked at Eric but didn't see anything special.
"He's the top fighter in our class. If he trains these students, they'll definitely achieve great results," Katherine explained.
Hearing this, Matt didn't react, but Mark and Michael laughed. They were elite seeds selected from the city, and even some professional fighters weren't qualified to coach them. How could a regular college student, supposedly the top fighter in his class, be of any help? They could probably knock Eric down with a single punch.
