Chapter 383 Blade Demon
"So that's how it works," Eric muttered, finally piecing it all together.
After seeing the info about the dropped items, it clicked. Climbing to the peak of the mountain alone wouldn't cut it. He had to collect all fifty pages of the Book of Inheritance.
With his goal clear, his next steps were obvious: find Skeleton Warriors and take down Bone Giants to get those Pages of Inheritance.
Eric set off in search of Skeleton Warriors. The swords raining from the sky were a pain, but he was getting the hang of dodging them. Even if he got nicked a few times while fighting off large groups of Skeleton Warriors, it wasn't a big deal anymore.
After taking down twelve Bone Giants, Eric hit a snag. The Bone Giants didn't always drop Pages of Inheritance. Out of the twelve he killed, only two dropped pages. The drop rate was abysmal, and they didn't even give experience points. Plus, dodging the swords was mentally draining and incredibly tedious. If it weren't for the promise of the Top Ten Sacred Inheritance, Eric would've bailed on this thankless grind.
While Eric was busy scouring the mountain, a major event shook Silvervale City.
The long-forgotten Darkstar Guild suddenly announced its disbandment, shocking everyone. The large guild dissolved, and several smaller allied guilds followed suit.
People thought Silvervale City was heading into an era of four major guilds vying for dominance. But what happened next was totally unexpected.
Less than half a day after these guilds disbanded, a branch of Smile Over Ruins popped up in Silvervale City. To everyone's surprise, RogueVortex, the former president of Darkstar Guild, became the vice president of Smile Over Ruins' Silvervale City branch. The benefits they offered were stellar, more than double what Darkstar Guild had provided, showing they had deep pockets.
Members of the disbanded guilds quickly flocked to Smile Over Ruins' Silvervale City branch. Within half a day, the branch swelled to thirty thousand members, and the numbers kept climbing. They were actively recruiting, going head-to-head with the Guild of Aether Wing for talent.
"Rosewater, Smile Over Ruins is really stepping on our toes at Aether Wing. Instead of sticking to their own Maple City, they're here poaching our members. The president's unreachable, and if Smile Over Ruins keeps this up, they'll snag all the good players before we even start recruiting tomorrow. Should we kick off our recruitment now?" SnowGoose asked, clearly anxious.
Aether Wing had drawn players from the outer city with their stellar reputation, and now Smile Over Ruins was trying to steal their thunder. It was maddening.
"Smile Over Ruins is getting cocky. They think they can waltz into Silvervale City just because they cleared a major team dungeon first," Rosewater said, her eyes flashing with anger. She wasn't worried about losing members but was irked by Smile Over Ruins' brazen attitude, which was a clear challenge to Aether Wing. "Do they really think Silvervale City is that easy to take over? Let's start our recruitment campaign now. I want to see how a second-rate guild without a guild base plans to compete with Aether Wing's perks!"
As the Guild of Aether Wing launched their recruitment campaign, Silvervale City buzzed with activity.
One guild had cleared a major team dungeon first and absorbed Darkstar Guild, while the other was led by Eldoria's top player and had a solid guild base.
It was quite the spectacle, with many players debating on the official forums which guild to join.
"SwordShadow, Silvervale City is really heating up. It's only the fifth-largest city in Eldoria, yet it's drawing in the two hottest guilds. Which guild do you think the solo players will join?" asked Turtledove, a female knight, smiling at SwordShadow.
"I don't know about others, but my goal has always been to join Aether Wing," SwordShadow replied, uninterested in the guild rivalry. He was laser-focused on passing the test to join Aether Wing, sparring with its top players to sharpen his skills, and learning from President BlackFlame. The rest didn't matter to him.
Meanwhile, Eric had spent a day in the Source Sword Realm and finally collected 21 Pages of Inheritance.
"What the heck is that?" Eric muttered, standing at the foot of Sword Peak Mountain. He spotted a steel monster slowly patrolling its territory down the slope.
The monster wasn't huge, only about twice the height of a person, but its arms and legs were sword blades. It wore pitch-black steel armor covered in spikes, looking like a killing machine.
Eric tried to check the monster's information, but it was unknown. Even his Insightful Gaze was ineffective, so he had to use his Omniscient Eye.
Blade Demon, demon creature, Chieftain Grade, level 30, health 300,000.
Seeing it was a Chieftain Grade monster, Eric was intrigued.
Bone Giants, as leader monsters, could drop Pages of Inheritance. The Blade Demon, also a leader monster, might drop Pages of Inheritance, too. This would be much easier than clearing a bunch of Skeleton Warriors and then dealing with Bone Giants.
And with only 300,000 health, the Blade Demon was probably just a bit stronger than the Bone Giants. It was worth a shot.
Of course, Eric wouldn't just charge in recklessly. He could handle Bone Giants because they turned slowly, and he could use the swords in the sky to his advantage. The Blade Demon was stronger, and its smaller size suggested it wasn't slow.
Facing the Blade Demon head-on would be suicidal. He needed to find its weak spot.
"Demon creature, so the Demonbane title should have a suppressive effect. I'll test it with a clone first," Eric thought, switching his title from One-Man Army to Demonbane.
The Demonbane title reduced dark creatures' attributes by 10% and increased damage dealt by 10%, providing a significant advantage. Since demon creatures were dark creatures, it would work.
Eric then used Phantom Slay, sending his clone forward.
As the clone approached within 40 yards, it threw a Blaze Comet, a red streak flying towards the Blade Demon's back. Suddenly, a black flash struck the Blaze Comet, deflecting it.
"No way, it's that strong? Is it really without blind spots?" Eric exclaimed.
The clone had attacked the Blade Demon's blind spot, but the Blade Demon seemed to have eyes on its back, precisely blocking the attack. Its reaction speed was far superior to Bone Giants.
Eric refused to believe it had no blind spots.
The clone activated Zephyr Stride, quickly circling to the other side and launching another Blaze Comet, followed by a series of rapid attacks.
Fire streaks flew towards the Blade Demon, but no matter the angle, the Blade Demon easily blocked them, moving so fast it left afterimages. Soon, it stood right in front of the clone.
The Blade Demon swung its swords dozens of times in an instant. Despite the clone's Swordsoar Ascension, it was quickly destroyed, unable to block more than a few strikes.
"Such fast swords," Eric thought, shocked by the clone's swift demise.
But after the initial shock, Eric noticed the Blade Demon hadn't resumed its patrol. Instead, it turned towards him and charged directly at him.
