Chapter 67 Voidweave Band
As the roar grew increasingly closer, and with the progress bar of the treasure chest only halfway completed, Eric felt a sense of urgency washing over him.
"Hurry up! "
He glanced at the Mountain Bear Warrior, which had already reached the camp's entrance, but the progress bar still had a sliver left.
The Mountain Bear Warrior saw Eric opening the treasure chest, and his eyes turned red, then it hurled a giant axe at Eric, wishing to send him straight to hell.
At that moment, the Bronze-tier Chest opened.
Without looking at the incoming giant axe, Eric activated Swordsoar Ascension, blocking the deadly axe attack. He then quickly reached into the chest with both hands, stuffing the items inside into his backpack at lightning speed.
As Eric finished grabbing everything from the chest, the Mountain Bear Warrior charged at him, brandishing the fallen giant axe to strike Eric down.
Eric, having no intention of engaging in combat, swiftly turned on his heels and fled from the scene..
With a loud crash, the ground split open with an axe mark, and stones flew everywhere. But Eric had already run 15 feet away, heading straight out of the camp.
Seeing its attack miss, the Mountain Bear Warrior turned and charged again, giving Eric no chance to escape.
Confronted with the charging Mountain Bear Warrior, Eric refrained from using any skills, leaving himself vulnerable to the monster's stun. The creature seized the opportunity and viciously slashed him with its axe, sending him hurtling through the air, landing roughly 30 feet away.
This strike would have been fatal even for a level 5 Shield Warrior, but Eric stood up as if nothing had happened and continued running. At this point, Swordsoar Ascension only had one more melee damage immunity left.
Although there was only one immunity left, the 30-foot distance from the Mountain Bear Warrior meant that once Eric entered the stone forest, he would be much safer.
However, an unexpected event occurred. The Mountain Bear Warrior used a second charge, stunning Eric again and slashing him with the giant axe.
This time, the Mountain Bear Warrior struck Eric with such force that it propelled him out of the camp, bringing him significantly closer to the stone forest.
Eric's expression turned serious. The current Mountain Bear Warrior was different from before. Previously, it only charged once, but now it charged twice consecutively. This meant it could charge three or four times or even more. As long as Eric was within 24 feet of the Mountain Bear Warrior, it would charge, which was terrible news.
Sure enough, as soon as Eric left the 24-foot range, the Mountain Bear Warrior charged again. If Eric got hit this time, he would be doomed.
He couldn't just sit and wait for death.
Eric took out a polymorph scroll and turned the charging Mountain Bear Warrior into a sheep. Although it only lasted for a second, it allowed him to run far enough. As long as he got more than 90 feet away, the charge distance wouldn't be enough.
After running 45 feet, the Mountain Bear Warrior recovered. Eric turned around and used Abyssal Bind, activating Gravity Liberation, and his speed soared.
With the three-second immobilization effect, Eric had no trouble fleeing over a distance of more than 90 feet and gaining entry into the stone forest.
Some Mountain Bear Warriors had already respawned in the stone forest, and one happened to block the path ahead. Eric quickly thought of a plan and took the initiative.
Wind-chasing Sword!
Before the Mountain Bear Warrior could react, Eric dashed past it and used another polymorph scroll to turn it into a sheep.
With the speed boost from Wind-chasing Sword, Eric easily shook off the pursuing Mountain Bear Warrior and soon escaped the chase.
Having discovered a secure spot, Eric sat down to rest and meticulously inspected the contents of his backpack. To his astonishment, he was taken aback by what he uncovered.
Robbing the camp had been highly profitable, equivalent to over ten hours of effort. He had gathered enough Moonstones to complete his quest. Now, Eric just needed to leave Luminescent Grove and lift the curse.
Among the treasures, in addition to a large number of Moonstones, there were seven Tier 1 gems, three pieces of Bronze Equipment, and a bronze-colored Dark Iron Ring.
One of the three pieces of Bronze Equipment was the Silver Moon Gauntlets, completing Eric's Silver Moon Outfit. With a little more effort, he might collect the entire set. However, Eric didn't have that much time. The sooner he lifted the curse, the sooner he could regain his strength and level up quickly. With an overwhelming number of tasks at hand, Eric couldn't afford to fall behind in levels.
Besides the Silver Moon Gauntlets, the Dark Iron level ring also delighted Eric.
Voidweave Band, a Dark Iron level ring, required 10 points of intelligence to equip. It provided +1 strength, +1 agility, +2 intelligence, and had the skill Shade of Nullity, which allowed the user to enter a void state where they couldn't see others, and others couldn't see them. It lasted for 1 minute and had a 5-minute cooldown (usable only outside of combat).
Rings with special skills like this were scarc, similar to the Gravity Ring, and had many uses.
In his previous life, Eric had extensively researched Luminescent Grove and, combined with online information, knew many treasure chest spawn locations. Initially, he planned to visit a few easy-to-reach chests before leaving Luminescent Grove. Now, with the Voidweave Band, his strategy expanded significantly, allowing him to access many more chests.
The Luminescent Grove remained an undeveloped area, teeming with treasures. Especially during his initial opening of the treasure chest, Eric had the chance to obtain the finest items inside. Since it was easily attainable, wasting a little time would be inconsequential.
Eric then put on the Voidweave Band, opened the Luminescent Grove map, and confirmed his location.
Not far from there was another Bronze-tier Chest, so he put away the map and headed towards the chest.
After walking for about ten minutes, he arrived at Temple Ruins. Savage Orcs guarded the ruins, including elite Orcs, and the chest was inside the collapsed temple. Clearing out all the Savage Orcs would require a twenty-person elite team and a lot of time, which was impossible for Eric alone.
Although he couldn't defeat the Savage Orcs, there were other ways.
Eric summoned a clone, sent it to a safe distance, and then quietly approached the temple. From a distance where the Savage Orcs couldn't see him, he activated Shade of Nullity, entered the void state, and quickly ran into the temple.
In the void state, Eric couldn't see the Savage Orcs, and they couldn't see him. He silently entered the heavily guarded temple.
Inside the temple, a few Savage Orcs were stationed, and the Bronze-tier Chest was less than 60 feet away.
Eric slowly began opening the chest.
While opening the chest, Eric's void state didn't disappear, so the process went smoothly. However, as soon as the chest creaked open and Eric reached inside, the void state vanished.
Instantly, five Savage Orcs noticed Eric. They roared in anger and charged at him with stone hammers raised.
Eric calmly activated Swordsoar Ascension and continued to load the chest's contents into his backpack. Before the Savage Orcs could break through his defenses three times, Eric had grabbed everything. He then switched places with his clone and safely left the ruins, heading to the following chest location.
Luminescent Grove was vast, and Eric, with his persistent style, spent over ten hours clearing it. He collected three Dark Iron-tier Chests, twenty-two Bronze-tier Chests, and fifty-six Common-tier Chests. The haul was incredible, filling his backpack to the brim, forcing him to discard some low-attribute Common Level equipment.
While organizing his loot, the System issued a notification.
Eric checked it; it was the alarm he had set, reminding him it was morning and time to log off and rest.
For the sake of his health, Eric found a safe spot and logged off.
