Chapter 157 Combat Power Soars

The sudden appearance of the Black Dragon left Tonny and Ezio frozen in their tracks, scared out of their minds.

Just its roar was enough to make their skin crawl, and the heat coming off its massive body made the whole Stellar Glade feel like it was ten degrees hotter.

They couldn't move, couldn't even breathe.

The Black Dragon scanned the glade, its eyes pausing on Faust before locking onto Eric.

"It's not gonna attack, right?" Eric whispered, barely able to get the words out. He'd never seen a dragon up close before.

In the world of Divine Realms: Legends, dragons were the ultimate symbols of power and destruction, stuff of legends and nightmares. And this one? This was the Black Dragon King, the top dog.

"Relax, kid," Faust chuckled, picking up on Eric's fear. "It's just a phantom, a shadow from the past. It can't hurt you. It's just the Demonic Weapon soaking up new power, showing off a bit of its old glory."

As expected, the Black Dragon King kept staring at Eric but didn't make a move.

Yet, even a mere shadow of its presence was enough to instill sheer terror.

If it had been real, the Stellar Glade would've been a blazing inferno, nothing left but ashes.

After what felt like forever, the phantom dragon faded away, turning into wisps of black flame that flowed back into the Abyssal Blade.

The blade had changed. It now had intricate silver runes on its pitch-black surface, and a faint black flame clung to its edges. The hilt, once plain, now had a coiled dragon, showing its true nature.

"Is this... the Abyssal Blade's new power?" Eric muttered, gripping the weapon.

He felt a strange connection to the blade, like it was a part of him.

Beyond this new bond, the Abyssal Blade's stats had taken a huge leap.

However, it is said to be cursed by the dragon's spirit. While it grants its wielder immense power, it also carries the risk of backfiring. Modified by Jack using Moonstone, the backfire effect is greatly reduced. Should the backfire become uncontrollable, the wielder will suffer the Black Dragon King's curse, permanently reducing all attributes by 50%. The sword cannot be dropped or traded.]

'Looks like the quality of the materials it absorbs really cranks up the power,' Eric thought, a satisfied grin spreading across his face.

The Abyssal Blade's attack power now matched that of a Level 10 Obsidian two-handed weapon. But its real strength was in its extra attributes. The higher crit rate, the chance to inflict Calamity of Misfortune, the sheer destructive power... this was a weapon worthy of legends.

"Time to see what this baby can really do," Eric said, eyeing the Goldenfin Wyrm lazily swimming in the Galaxy. "The Divine Breath of the Celestial Dragon is mine for the taking."

"You might wanna think twice, kid," Faust warned, a smirk playing on his lips. "Your weapon's strong, sure, but snagging an Epic Level item fragment is no walk in the park."

It wasn't that he doubted Eric's skills, but he knew the challenge ahead. Maybe if Eric were Level 20, decked out in full Level 20 Adamantite armor and wielding a Level 20 Demonic Weapon, he'd have a shot. But Eric was far from that level. Still, the fact that he even had a chance at an Epic Level item at this stage was pretty impressive.

"How about this?" Eric suddenly pulled out the Frostshadow Essence he'd snagged earlier.

[Type: Consumable, Throwing Weapon]

[Charges: 10,000]

[Effect: Deals 120% ice damage to the target. Effective only against enemies below Level 30. No cooldown.]

Even Tonny and Ezio, who knew Eric better than most, were puzzled.

The Frostshadow Essence was a single-target weapon, best for picking off individual enemies. Using it in a big battle against a horde of Goldenfin Wyrm seemed... well, kinda pointless. What was Eric planning?

Faust just shook his head and went back to his fishing rod, a knowing smile on his face.

"Tonny, Ezio, I need you guys to help me catch the Goldenfin Wyrm," Eric called out, soaring into the air above the Galaxy.

They didn't get his plan, but they trusted him completely.

"Let's do this."

As the two got their magic net ready, Eric prepped himself. Activating Frost Azure Flame, he gripped the Abyssal Blade in one hand and the Frostshadow Essence in the other, then launched himself into the heart of the Goldenfin Wyrm school.

He arrived with a bang.

[Thunderbolt!]

Three bolts of lightning shot through the air, hitting over twenty Goldenfin Wyrm at once. Damage numbers flashed: -1846, -2389, -3201. Some got hit twice, their health dropping even more: -3706, -4798, -6422. A few got hit with Calamity of Misfortune, their attributes slashed by 40%, their health bars suddenly looking real shaky.

[Earthshatter Strike!]

[Inferno Thunderstorm!]

He followed up with his area-of-effect skills, unleashing a wave of fire and force that slammed into the packed school. Each Goldenfin Wyrm caught in the blast took close to 20,000 damage, with crits hitting over 30,000. Those already cursed by the Abyssal Blade saw their health bars drop to less than half.

Tonny and Ezio watched in stunned silence, wondering if they were dreaming.

"Spread out! Duskblade Furydance!" Eric yelled, switching to the Frostshadow Essence in both hands.

He unleashed the skill, and a flurry of icy needles shot towards the cursed Goldenfin Wyrm.

Over ten Frostshadow Essences hit their mark, each dealing over 1,700 damage. The spread effect of Duskblade Furydance ensured that surrounding Goldenfin Wyrm got caught in the crossfire, each taking around 600 damage.

In the blink of an eye, the health bars of over a hundred Goldenfin Wyrm started dropping fast.

Unlike the Frostbite Grenade, the Frostshadow Essence had no cooldown. The faster Eric's attack speed, the more needles he could throw.

The Abyssal Blade's attack speed boost, combined with the buff from Faust, let Eric throw an insane twenty Frostshadow Essences per second. But to save stamina and keep his aim sharp, he stuck to twelve.

Under this relentless assault, the cursed Goldenfin Wyrm, already weakened by Eric's initial attacks, didn't stand a chance. Its 60,000 health points dropped rapidly, leaving it on the brink of death.
