Chapter 274 Dark Gold Treasure Chest
"Having monsters around is not a good thing," Eric said with a wry smile as he looked at the three-headed giant wolf guarding the crystal passage in the distance.
The Crystal Battle Wolf, Overlord Grade, Level 25, with 300,000 HP.
Wilderness Overlords are much stronger than dungeon Overlords of the same level, and Divine Realms: Legends has a specific setting against zerg tactics, where the strength and HP of the boss increase with the number of players joining the battle.
Typically, the designated number of players for a Wilderness Overlord Boss is between ten and twenty, excluding special bosses.
However, the Crystal Battle Wolf in front of them didn't seem to be a special boss, which meant it would take at least ten people to deal with it. Moreover, the Crystal Battle Wolf was Level 25, while Eric and his team were not even Level 20, making the level suppression very severe. Among them, only Eric had the Demonic Weapon Abyssal Blade, which could ignore the level suppression. Rosewater had equipment that could ignore levels, but only up to 3 levels, and she was only Level 17, making the 5-level suppression hard to handle. FlameDancer was even worse off.
Of course, there are always two sides to a story. Although the guarding boss was strong, it also indicated that the items inside were equally valuable, as Eric noticed a treasure chest next to the crystal passage.
And this treasure chest was an Obsidian Level chest, which made Eric very eager, as it was much better than the boss drops.
"A Level 25 Overlord, the three of us can't possibly take it down. We'll have to go back and call for more people," Rosewater said, her eyes gleaming at the sight of the Crystal Battle Wolf. Wilderness Bosses were rare, and defeating one could earn a lot, not to mention the treasure chest it was guarding.
Rosewater then temporarily logged off to contact Tonny from Aether Wing Studios, asking them to enter the Silverwood Manor's staircase to meet up there.
Meanwhile, Eric kept observing the Crystal Battle Wolf and the surrounding terrain, thinking of a strategy.
After more than ten minutes, Rosewater logged back in.
"So, when will they arrive?" Eric asked.
"They've tried, but they can't find the entrance," Rosewater said, somewhat disappointed.
"So the entrance must appear randomly," Eric mused, his gaze shifting back to the Crystal Battle Wolf. "Looks like we'll have to deal with this Overlord ourselves."
Hearing Eric say they had to deal with the ten-meter-tall Crystal Battle Wolf, Rosewater, and FlameDancer felt that Eric's plan was a bit crazy.
They had no tank or healer, just three DPS. How could they fight a Level 25 Overlord?
Although they knew Eric was very strong, this was an Overlord, not something three or four players could handle.
"We have no choice but to try. We can't stay stuck here forever. Besides, even if we die, we can test whether we can get out after death. It's a win-win," Eric joked.
"President, tell us how to fight," FlameDancer said, full of fighting spirit.
Rosewater sighed helplessly, "Alright, I'll join too."
"We can't confront this Crystal Battle Wolf head-on. The only way is to kite and attack. I'll be the bait, Rosewater, you focus on DPS, and FlameDancer, you try to restrict its movement," Eric said after some thought. Although the Divine Breath of the Celestial Dragon was no longer usable, his agility exceeded 200 points, and he had equipment that boosted his movement speed. His normal speed was definitely faster than the Level 25 Overlord. Combined with his nimble skills, he was the best bait.
Eric then gave FlameDancer a lot of basic and intermediate Frostbite Grenades, instructing her to use them as needed.
FlameDancer didn't expect Eric to have such good items. With the Frostbite Grenades, the success rate of luring and attacking the boss increased significantly.
Once the three were in position, Eric took out the crimson Blaze Comet and threw it at the Crystal Battle Wolf from 40 yards away.
A red flash with sparks hit the Crystal Battle Wolf's eye, causing 651 points of damage. Compared to a one-handed sword, thrown weapon damage was higher.
The Crystal Battle Wolf let out a miserable howl.
Its blood-red eyes locked onto the direction the dart came from, only to be hit by another dart, causing over 1,300 points of damage. This completely enraged the Crystal Battle Wolf, which leaped powerfully towards Eric.
Eric turned and ran.
Just as Eric had guessed, his speed was indeed slightly faster than the Crystal Battle Wolf. However, Eric had to attack to keep the Crystal Battle Wolf's aggro, which caused it to catch up and attack him. If he didn't attack, Rosewater and FlameDancer's attacks could easily shift the aggro.
The wolf's attacks were fierce, smashing the ground with a single swipe, sending fist-sized rocks flying everywhere.
But Eric was extremely agile, always dodging the wolf's claws at the last moment, then pulling away to attack again.
Eric's attacks were just a distraction; Rosewater was the main DPS. After the boost from the Demonic Citadel, Rosewater had two pieces of Obsidian Level Equipment, one of which was a top-tier dark gold staff for Elementalists. Her DPS was very high. If it weren't for Tonny having the Epic Level Mephisto's Guardian Shield, Rosewater would be the top DPS among mages.
Rosewater stood in the center, casting ice arrows, ice spears, and Inferno Burst at the charging Crystal Battle Wolf.
Not only did it slow the wolf down, but it also dealt significant damage. Each attack dealt over 500 points. Without the 5-level suppression, it would have been over 700 or 800. Although the damage was only over 500, it was continuous, unlike Eric's intermittent attacks.
FlameDancer kept applying bleed and slow poisons to the Crystal Battle Wolf.
The slow poison and ice's slow effects significantly reduced the wolf's speed.
If the distance wasn't enough, FlameDancer would throw a Frostbite Grenade to freeze the wolf. Since it was an Overlord, the freeze effect was minimal, lasting no more than 3 seconds, sometimes just 1 second.
But in a high-level battle, even a moment could change the outcome, especially giving Eric an extra second.
Although the three didn't deal high total damage, the Crystal Battle Wolf's HP fluctuated. After more than ten minutes, its 300,000 HP was down to 30%, and it looked like it would be over in less than ten minutes.
The Crystal Battle Wolf went berserk. Its ten-meter-tall body suddenly shrank, like a deflating balloon, becoming much smaller.
"Not good, it's sacrificing strength for speed," Eric recognized the transformation immediately. "FlameDancer, keep using Frostbite Grenades to slow it down."
"Got it," FlameDancer knew this was a critical moment and kept throwing Frostbite Grenades.
But something unexpected happened.
The usually effective Frostbite Grenades only dealt a bit of damage, with no slow effect.
The Crystal Battle Wolf frantically swung its claws, its three heads snapping at Eric. The speed was so fast that even Eric couldn't dodge in time and got hit, flying over ten yards away. It felt like his chest was hammered, and he took over 2,100 points of damage.
Eric's HP instantly dropped to a dangerous level, his health bar turning bright red.
