Chapter 349 Soaring Experience
As Eric edged closer to the battlefield, the other players kept their eyes glued to the Mechanical Slaughterer's health bar.
The battle grew more intense, and the Mechanical Slaughterer's health dropped faster and faster.
Everyone knew that the sooner they could get to the loot, the better their chances of grabbing it. Naturally, they watched the health bar like hawks.
Meanwhile, the leaders of the major guilds began ordering their members to set up a perimeter.
Although Eric had used the Mechanical Slaughterer to take out many players, there were still plenty left. The guilds were too focused on the Mechanical Slaughterer to worry about Eric; even RogueVortex, who hated Eric with a passion, was fixated on the Mechanical Slaughterer.
"Hey, RogueVortex, we've got people in position around the Mechanical Slaughterer. As soon as it goes down, our folks will rush in," an Assassin reported to RogueVortex.
"Good. If anyone tries to grab the loot, take them out," RogueVortex ordered.
The Mechanical Slaughterer was so powerful that its drops were likely to be Obsidian Level items, maybe even Epic Level. These would be far better than the drops from the three major dungeons.
Getting those drops would help make up for some of the losses.
"By the way, any movement from Aether Wing or Devouring Serpents?" RogueVortex asked.
"Not much. Aether Wing hasn't sent many people; they don't seem interested. Devouring Serpents are still focused on the three major dungeons, so they haven't sent many either. But Imperial Radiance and Assassin's Alliance have sent a lot of people. Our guild has lost many members because of BlackFlame, so we're at a disadvantage if we compete with them," the Assassin reported.
"Haha, Isabella, you're so focused on the three major dungeons that you're missing out on the chance to conquer them. Spread the word: everyone should go for the most valuable items first. We can't let Obsidian Level or Epic Level items fall into other guilds' hands," RogueVortex said, excited at the thought of the Mechanical Slaughterer's rich drops.
Despite the heavy losses caused by BlackFlame, getting Obsidian Level or Epic Level items would be a huge boost for the guild, especially in dungeon raids.
With those weapons and gear, tackling the bosses in the three major dungeons would be much easier.
Securing the first clear of the three major dungeons would restore Darkstar Guild's former glory.
As time passed, more and more players gathered in Silvervale City, all focused on the Mechanical Slaughterer's health bar.
After all, a monster siege was a first in Eldoria.
Shortly after the system announcement in Silvervale City, the event was reported on the Divine Realms: Legends website.
Players from other cities started arriving, too.
Though the teleportation fees between cities were high, the players who came were the elite, mostly guild members from other cities.
Soon, over 500,000 players had gathered, nearly a third of Silvervale City's total player base.
"Seeing how strong this monster is, I'm glad we came. We don't have many people here, and we're not familiar with the area. If we get any loot, we should escape immediately. Don't risk your lives. Got it?" a handsome man in a black robe instructed his companions.
If Eric saw this man, he'd be shocked.
The man was a top player in the virtual gaming world, even more famous than Isabella. He ranked in the top 1,000 globally and was a veteran of the top-tier guild Stellar Alliance, known as RedFeather.
"RedFeather, don't worry. You know our strength. These Silvervale City newbies don't stand a chance against us," a dark-skinned, slender Assassin said, playing with his dagger and sneering at the Silvervale City guild members.
"RedFeather, you're too cautious. We're the Stellar Alliance's elite team. We're here to take all the loot," a seductive female Ranger named Hatty Weaver said with a smile.
RedFeather shook his head at his companions' comments. "Guys, there are plenty of skilled players in Silvervale City. Even though Isabella isn't here, we still have strong competitors like Blood Spear from Supremacy Alliance, WhisperbladeWraith from Assassin's Alliance, LonelySwallow from Imperial Radiance, and the newly emerged BlackFlame. Plus, there are other top players from other cities. Better to be cautious."
Despite RedFeather's warning, his companions didn't take it seriously.
They were all level 20 or higher, equipped mostly with Mithril Level gear, some even fully outfitted in Mithril. They were seasoned players, top-tier in skill and equipment.
How could they lose to other guilds?
"RedFeather, the Mechanical Slaughterer's health is almost gone. Should we rush in now?" Hatty Weaver asked.
"Wait. The stronger the monster, the fiercer its final attack. You've seen how powerful the Mechanical Slaughterer is. The area within 200 yards is dangerous. Without invincibility, we might not even reach it before dying. But we can move closer to the 200-yard range," RedFeather advised.
Just as RedFeather finished speaking, a shadow darted towards the Mechanical Slaughterer at incredible speed.
"Haha, that guy's crazy! The Mechanical Slaughterer still has 2% health, and he's rushing in!"
"He must be a skilled player, but he's lost his mind. If he waited until the Mechanical Slaughterer died, he might have grabbed some loot with that speed."
The onlookers laughed, not believing the shadow could survive reaching the Mechanical Slaughterer.
But seeing someone rush in, others followed suit.
The shadow in the lead was Eric.
With the Mechanical Slaughterer on the brink of death, Eric couldn't wait any longer.
As Eric closed in within 100 yards, the Mechanical Slaughterer erupted.
Its body turned blood-red, shrinking to half its size. The jagged sword in its hand transformed into a blood-red scythe, wrapped in dark death energy. The Mechanical Slaughterer gripped the scythe and swung it around.
Black beams shot out in all directions.
"How is it using a Tier 4 skill, Death's Sigh!" Eric was shocked and quickly activated the Illusion Realm.
The black beams hit Illusion Realm, and though Eric's health didn't drop, he felt like he'd been hit by a giant hammer, his blood churning. He doubted the Illusion Realm could withstand the attack.
The black beams lasted for 6 seconds, covering a 200-yard radius in darkness, making it impossible to see inside.
When Death's Sigh ended, the area was eerily silent. Only Eric was left standing; the other players who rushed in were dead.
Wiseman's Frost Guard was shattered, his health dropped significantly, and he spat blood, clearly injured.
No one expected the Mechanical Slaughterer's final attack to be so terrifying. Even a Tier 4 Archmage would be severely wounded.
But after using the skill, the Mechanical Slaughterer was nearly dead, with just a sliver of health left.
Wiseman cast a Tier 3 spell, Icefall Descent, and a storm of ice and snow descended on the Mechanical Slaughterer, rapidly depleting its health.
"I'll take your head," Eric thought, rushing in with Zephyr Stride. He used Silent Stride to get behind the Mechanical Slaughterer, braving the Icefall Descent. He pulled a mid-level Frostbite Grenade from his bag and threw it at the Mechanical Slaughterer, dealing 500 damage and finishing off its remaining health, just before the next wave of ice could.
Eric's timing was perfect, narrowly beating Wiseman to the final blow.
With the Mechanical Slaughterer dead, it dropped over a hundred items.
Eric received several system notifications.
Before he could check them, his experience bar skyrocketed.
In moments, he leveled up from 24 to 25.
But the experience kept coming.
26...
27...
28...
29...
...
Eric's body glowed with golden light, leveling up to 34, finally stopping at 34 and 74%. The ten-level jump was beyond his wildest dreams.
Even in his previous life, he'd never leveled up so quickly. The Mechanical Slaughterer's experience was incredibly rich. If he'd gotten all the experience, he might have leveled up even more.
