Chapter 387 Magic Knight
Eric had been in the Source Sword Realm for four days now.
He'd maxed out the benefits from slaying Bone Giants and Blade Demons, gathering Pages of Inheritance and Broken Steel Set design fragments. No matter how many more he killed, nothing new dropped.
If it weren't for his goal of upgrading his attack skills to the first tier and pushing his combat power to its current limit, Eric would have already charged into Sword Peak Mountain.
Although his skills could still be improved, advancing from the first tier to the second required an enormous amount of skill proficiency, which couldn't be achieved in a short time. Plus, Eric was running out of time.
Eric and Isabella had agreed on a five-day timeframe, so he had to act now.
Meanwhile, significant events were unfolding in Silvervale City.
After Smile Over Ruins secured the first clear of the Maple City large team dungeon, they also claimed the first clear of the Silvervale City large team dungeon, the Eternal Slumber Dungeon. Isabella's Devouring Serpents came in second.
The difference between the first and the second was vast.
The first team to clear the dungeon received a system announcement, while the second did not. To get another system announcement, Isabella would have to clear the Infernal-level Eternal Slumber Dungeon. However, the Infernal-level was much more challenging than the Adversity-level, making it a poor use of time and resources.
It was better to focus on the level 20 large team dungeons, especially the hundred-player ones.
The level gap between 10-20 and 20-30 was significant because leveling up in Divine Realms: Legends slowed down considerably after level 20, giving guilds more time to prepare.
As Eric ascended Sword Peak Mountain, he encountered no threats or monsters.
However, the closer he got to the glowing peak, the more numerous and swift the floating swords in the sky became, increasing the difficulty.
"Is this all there is?" Eric wondered, surprised.
The swords caused some trouble, but with dodging and blocking, he had no problem reaching the summit.
In four days, Eric had collected 49 Pages of Inheritance and 17 Broken Steel Set design fragments, just one short of completing each set.
The summit, the only exit, surely held the final Page of Inheritance and design fragment.
"What is that?"
Eric spotted knights in armor wielding giant swords at the summit, looking imposing.
Unlike Bone Giants and Blade Demons, these giant sword knights were NPCs.
Doron Parry, a first-tier Magic Knight, level 30, with 300,000 health points.
A level 30 first-tier NPC was tougher than a level 30 boss.
This first-tier NPC was clearly formidable, with 300,000 health points, high skills, intelligence, and terrifying health—a nightmare for players.
But Eric had no choice but to charge forward, ready to face Doron and the sky's sword attacks.
As Eric stepped onto the stone platform where Doron stood, the sword attacks ceased, as if announcing he had passed the dodging challenge.
"Challenger, reaching here shows you have some skill. You are qualified to duel me. Defeat me, and you may proceed," Doron said, excitedly. "You have five minutes to prepare, or you can attack now. Don't disappoint me."
"A one-on-one duel?" Eric looked around, seeing no traps or other monsters.
It made sense; a first-tier NPC was a tough opponent for any player.
With five minutes to rest, Eric sat down, eating some delicious beef to restore stamina and health and boost some attributes.
Long runs and dodging took a toll on a player's mental energy, so five minutes of rest was valuable to Eric.
During the rest, Eric observed the surroundings and studied Doron.
Magic Knight was a rare hidden class, one of the high inheritances.
Magic Knights and Star Sorcerers were known for their unique styles.
Star Sorcerers had strange attacks.
Magic Knights had violent attacks.
Compared to first-tier Swordsmen, first-tier Magic Knights had higher and more varied attack power, using magic to enhance physical attacks. Even first-tier Shield Warriors struggled against them.
However, their weakness was their low survival ability, sacrificing defensive skills for attack power.
As time ticked away, Eric knew he couldn't wait for Doron to attack.
He had to seize the initiative.
At 40 yards from Doron, Eric moved, throwing a Blaze Comet at Doron's weak spot.
Doron scoffed, drawing his silver greatsword and slashing, sending fire blades to intercept the Blaze Comet, deflecting it towards Eric.
But Eric suddenly appeared behind Doron, slashing with his Abyssal Blade.
Doron smiled, turning and unleashing a fiery storm from his sword, clashing with Eric's blade.
Sparks flew as they exchanged dozens of blows. Eric's strength was inferior, but his speed surpassed Doron's. Despite being pushed back, Eric avoided fatal damage, but the prolonged fight favored Doron.
With 300,000 health points against Eric's 3,000, the odds were clear.
"Impressive for a zero-tier, but how about this?" Doron smiled, his sword's fire replaced by ice, creating a freezing zone within 40 yards, slowing Eric's movements and attacks, nullifying his speed advantage.
