Chapter 106 Blade of Ashes (Part 2)
Kobold King let out an enraged roar, sending shockwaves rippling outward. Damage numbers of sixty to seventy kept popping up over everyone's heads. The magic users were forced to retreat, pressing against the walls.
"You insignificant ants dare to defile this sacred place! Prepare to face the judgment of death!" The towering Kobold King bellowed, slamming its foot down with tremendous force, causing the stone tiles within a 15-foot radius to be violently upheaved.
Seeing this terrifying display of power, the two MTs broke into a cold sweat. Thankfully, they had retreated just in time; otherwise, the consequences of that stomp would have been unimaginable.
Just as they were feeling relieved, the Kobold King gripped his greatsword with both hands and swung it toward the two MTs in the distance. A black sword aura sliced through the air, striking them both and dealing over 600 damage each.
"An area-of-effect sword attack?"
Isabella furrowed her beautiful brows. She hadn't expected the Kobold King to change its attack range when its health dropped below 30%. The damage from its long-range attack was so high that even with the MTs' survival skills reducing damage by 50%, it was still formidable. This significantly increased the difficulty of defeating the Kobold King. If the leader-level Kobold King was like this, her previous estimate of a 10% success rate seemed optimistic.
"All healers, focus on the two MTs. Everyone else, keep your distance from them. MTs, be mindful of your positioning and avoid getting too close. Warriors, prepare to charge and restrict its movements," Eric commanded immediately.
Before Eric finished speaking, the Kobold King moved.
With a step that shattered the stone bricks, it charged toward the primary aggro holder, Guardian Knight Cola.
In an instant, it was in front of Cola, swinging its sword down with a gust of wind. Cola, already at less than half health from the previous 600 damage, would undoubtedly die if hit again up close.
As the greatsword descended, a booming sound echoed, and a gust of wind swept through the hall.
"How am I still alive?" Cola opened his eyes and saw that it wasn't pitch black. In front of him stood a familiar figure. Cola exclaimed, "Eric!"
"Run!" Though Eric had parried the blow with his dual swords, the Kobold King was readying a second strike. Eric had no choice but to use his life-saving skill, Swordsoar Ascension.
Cola quickly ran away, and four healing spells landed on him, restoring him to full health.
Just as Cola ran six feet away, there was a sound of shattering stones and a cloud of dust.
Eric emerged from the dust, not daring to linger, knowing the berserk Kobold King could easily kill him.
Just as Eric dashed forward, the Kobold King swiftly followed suit, but its target was not Eric. Instead, it aimed to intercept the fleeing Cola.
"Charge and block!" Naturally, Eric wouldn't let the Kobold King have its way.
At Eric's command, three berserkers who had been watching charged in succession. The first charge made the Kobold King pause; the second pushed it back a step and the third another two steps. Though there was no stun effect, the knockback was sufficient.
After charging, the berserkers quickly dodged away. One was a bit slow and was grazed by a sword aura, instantly dropping to zero health and falling to the ground.
The Kobold King's sword energy attack inflicted greater damage the closer the distance. With a mere 6-foot gap, a single strike could instantly eliminate a full-health main tank, let alone a Berserker with lower defense and health points compared to the main tank.
Despite the sacrifices, the delay was worth it, giving the MTs a better chance of survival.
Magic users with control skills also began to restrain the Kobold King, ensuring the MTs faced little danger. Among the controllers, Tonny's Diabolic Lash was the most effective. The Kobold King struggled against the thorns, wasting time, while other spells like Frozen Starfall had minimal slowing effects.
As time passed, Cola and Phantom Slayer were relentlessly pursued, leaping and dodging with every ounce of their strength. Fortunately, they managed to survive the ordeal.
Finally, the Kobold King's berserk state ended, returning to normal. However, it had regenerated a significant amount of health, now over 50%, or more than 60,000 points.
"Alternate attacks!" With the berserk state over, Eric immediately launched a counterattack.
The four of them coordinated their attacks, putting the Kobold King at a disadvantage. Their teamwork grew more seamless, and within minutes, they had reduced the Kobold King's health by 20%.
This time, the Kobold King didn't go berserk. It abandoned its greatsword and summoned two blood-red rune-etched longswords, beginning a frenzied whirlwind attack, turning everything it touched to ash.
This was the Kobold King's ultimate move, Bladestorm Tempest.
"All warriors, charge and then retreat immediately. Magic users, use all control skills and stay at least 30 feet away from the whirlwind," Eric shouted.
At this point in the battle, everyone had developed a deep trust in Eric. Without any hesitation, they charged forward together, united and resolute.
Warriors, including Isabella, crashed into the Kobold King while magic users cast freezing or binding spells. Tonny's Diabolic Lash slowed the Kobold King significantly, reducing its spinning force.
Though the Bladestorm Tempest's speed and power were reduced, some still got caught and were shredded within seconds.
After 15 seconds of Bladestorm Tempest, six of the 20 team members had died, including two berserkers, an assassin, a priest, a ranger, and a swordsman. The Kobold King still had 10% health left.
Seeing the two MTs critically low on health and the Kobold King about to strike, Eric appeared from behind the Kobold King.
Abyssal Bind!
Thunderbolt!
Double Slash!
Nine chains bound the Kobold King, saving the MTs. Eric then unleashed a flurry of attacks, each hitting the Kobold King's weak points with incredible speed.
Isabella was shocked by Eric's speed and precision but quickly joined in, slashing at the Kobold King.
In just three seconds, they dealt nearly 4,000 damage, leaving the Kobold King on the brink of death.
The Kobold King was truly furious. With a thunderous roar, the entire chamber of the mausoleum began to tremble.
This was the Kobold King's final move, Dread Reckoning, causing fear in all enemies within 150 feet, rendering them unable to attack for 10 seconds.
Everyone was paralyzed with fear, standing motionless.
The Kobold King smirked and began slaughtering, killing a berserker and an assassin in an instant, then the two MTs within four seconds. At this rate, everyone would be dead in 10 seconds.
As the team fell, it was Eric's turn.
Eric finally regained control, thanks to his extraordinary constitution, which reduced his fear duration.
But the Kobold King's sword was already descending. With no way to dodge, Eric activated his life shield, blocking the blow with Abyssal Blade. He was sent flying, taking 640 damage.
Luckily, Eric had over a thousand health and survived thanks to the life shield's damage reduction, though the shield shattered.
Seeing Eric alive, the Kobold King charged at him for the final blow.
Phantom Slay!
Nine Dragon Cleave!
Eric's clone parried the Kobold King, also activating Swordsoar Ascension, buying more time.
The Kobold King's health continued to drop, now below 1%.
Seeing his Swordsoar Ascension off cooldown, Eric activated it, attacking from 30 feet away, chipping away at the Kobold King's health.
After killing the clone, the Kobold King had less than 300 health. It threw its swords at Eric, but they were blocked by Swordsoar Ascension. The Kobold King transformed into a blur, hurtling towards Eric and slashing with its razor-sharp claws.
Seeing Thunderbolt off cooldown, Eric blocked with Crimson Edge and struck the Kobold King's neck with Abyssal Blade.
With a boom, Eric was slammed into the wall, left with a sliver of health, while the Kobold King lay motionless on the ground.
Eric leveled up to 7, and a pile of loot dropped.
Among the items, one stood out, emitting a sinister silver glow.
"Blade of Ashes!" Eric exclaimed in shock.
This was the legendary item from Shadowmoon Graveyard, something he had only heard about in his previous life but never seen.
