Chapter 153 Legendary Items
After getting Faust on board, Eric turned his focus to the real challenge – the Goldenfin Wyrms.
These level 20 elite creatures swam through the shimmering, otherworldly currents of the Galaxy high above, flickering in and out of sight at heights between 75 and 105 feet. For most melee classes, just reaching them was a nightmare, let alone doing any real damage. Their scales were as tough as diamonds, making most attacks feel like mosquito bites, barely scratching a hundred points of damage.
On top of that, they had crazy magic resistance, shrugging off nearly 40% of all magical damage. And to make things worse, they zipped around the Galaxy like they were on a sugar high, making them super hard to hit.
All these factors made the Stellar Glade of Astral Veins a place of both huge frustration and tempting possibilities. Many adventurers left empty-handed, their dreams of scoring rare materials crushed by the elusive Goldenfin Wyrms.
Divine Realms: Legends, unlike a lot of other games, was packed with chances for players to level up fast through lucky breaks and clever tricks. Eric had seen plenty of players shoot up the ranks this way.
But these chances weren't a sure thing. The game world was full of opportunities, but it was up to the players to grab them. Their skills and smarts would ultimately decide their fate.
"Tonny, Ezio, take these." Eric dug into his backpack and pulled out two beginner-level Frostbite Grenades, handing them to his buddies.
They'd used a bunch of Frostbite Grenades to get the Frost Azure Flame, and now only had about a dozen left. But that was enough to deal with the Goldenfin Wyrms.
"These Frostbite Grenades are nuts! They're like cheat codes for both PvP and farming. If we could use them non-stop, we'd level up so fast it would make heads spin. No one could touch us," Tonny said, eyes wide as he read the grenade's description. The idea of using them on level 30 monsters, watching the leveling speed go up by one level per minute, was almost too good to be true. At that leveling speed, the Martial Alliance wouldn't even be a threat. Their level advantage alone would be enough to crush them.
"If only we had an endless supply," Ezio sighed, sounding wistful. "Imagine walking into a fight or a farming spot with a dozen of these bad boys. We wouldn't even need skills. Just toss a few grenades, and boom – instant win."
"True, but even having a few of these lifesavers is a godsend," Tonny added, appreciating the grenades more by the second. "They could be the difference between life and death in a tight spot."
Eric just smiled, grabbing a Frostbite Grenade for himself. He looked up at the Goldenfin Wyrms gliding through the air. "Enough talk. On my mark, we unleash these grenades and give those wyrms a taste of winter."
Tonny and Ezio hesitated, gripping the grenades tightly.
"Eric, are you sure about this? These things are precious! Using them on the Goldenfin Wyrms seems like a huge waste. They have a ton of health, and those scales… 200 points of damage is nothing to them. Plus, we might need them for something more important later," Tonny argued, his practical side kicking in.
"Yeah, Captain."
The two tried to talk him out of it, thinking Eric was being wasteful.
Eric found it amusing and didn't know what to say.
He'd used Frostbite Grenades to farm up to level 9 before...
"Don't worry, I have plenty more. Soon, each team member will get thirty of them," Eric said with a grin.
His words hung in the air, leaving Tonny and Ezio speechless. Thirty Frostbite Grenades each? That was insane! These were super rare and valuable, and he was just handing them out like candy? With that kind of firepower, any encounter with the Martial Alliance would be a joke.
Reassured by Eric's confidence, they set aside their doubts and got ready to follow his lead.
"Three, two, one… Fire!"Three Frostbite Grenades soared through the air, their fuses burning bright against the swirling Galaxy backdrop. They exploded with a trio of muffled booms, sending a wave of intense cold washing over the unsuspecting Goldenfin Wyrms.
Even with their crazy agility, the grenades' wide blast radius caught several of them off guard. They found their movements slowed by a thick layer of frost, their sleek forms encased in shimmering ice. The damage was minimal compared to their massive health pools, but it was enough to catch the eye of the lone figure fishing amidst the celestial currents.
Faust, his white beard flowing gently in the ethereal breeze, lowered his fishing rod and fixed his gaze on the spectacle below. A ghost of a smile played on his lips as he stroked his beard thoughtfully. "Not bad, not bad at all. You've managed to ruffle their scales, which is more than I can say for most who stumble upon this place."
"Honorable Faust, we just want to capture some Goldenfin Wyrms to take back for cooking. We hope our rash actions haven't disturbed you," Eric said, laying on the politeness thick.
"I didn't expect you to be interested in cooking Goldenfin Wyrms," Faust's eyes lit up at the mention of cooking. "Since you want to catch Goldenfin Wyrms, could you help me catch some alive? My power is too great, and I accidentally kill them, so I have to fish here slowly."
"Well…" Eric pretended to hesitate, playing along with the old master's game.
"Don't worry, I won't let you go unrewarded. If you can bring me some satisfactory Goldenfin Wyrms, I can trade these items with you. How about it?" Faust waved his hand, and dozens of items appeared, floating in mid-air, looking very tempting.
Tonny and Ezio gasped, their eyes widening as they took in the sight of the floating treasures.
"Eric, check it out! A level 15 Mithril Staff! And a level 15 Black Iron Robe! And holy crap, are those… level 15 Adamantite Cloth Gloves?" Tonny's voice cracked with excitement, his gaze darting from one item to another, unable to contain his awe.
Ezio, equally thrilled, pointed excitedly at a magnificent level 15 Adamantite Two-Handed Axe, his eyes practically glowing with desire. The weapon's stats were off the charts.
But amidst the dazzling array of high-level gear, one item stood out, its soft orange glow a telltale sign of an Epic Level item, drawing Eric's attention like a moth to a flame.
"An Epic Level item?" he breathed, his composure momentarily shaken.
He had heard whispers and rumors of players stumbling upon Epic Level items within the Stellar Glade of Astral Veins, but he had always dismissed them as tall tales, exaggerations designed to inflate egos and fuel envy. Yet, here it was, proof positive that such treasures did indeed exist within this ethereal realm.
'Epic Level items are tens of times more valuable than even the highest-level gear. If we already have Epic Level items, what's left to fear from mere levels?' Eric thought.
Even in his previous life, as a renowned level 200 Sword King, Eric had never possessed an Epic Level item. They were the exclusive domain of the game's elite, the top-tier fourth-stage experts who stood head and shoulders above the rest. Even then, most of these individuals possessed only one or two such items, a testament to their extreme rarity.
These few, fortunate souls, armed with their Epic Level gear, could go toe-to-toe with fifth-stage classes, their power amplified to unimaginable levels. It was a testament to the transformative power of these items, their ability to bridge the gap between mere mortals and the game's true titans.
And now, here he was, staring at an Epic Level item, its ethereal glow beckoning him closer, promising unimaginable power.
"Eric, am I dreaming? That's an Epic Level item!" Tonny pinched his face and said.
Ezio was so excited he couldn't speak, continuously patting Tonny's shoulder and pointing at the Epic Level item.
"You're not mistaken; that is indeed an Epic Level item. I obtained it by chance, but it's useless to me. However, if you want to get it, it won't be easy," Faust said, stroking his beard and smiling smugly, clearly enjoying their shock.
Eric calmed down. Although the Epic Level item was right in front of him, obtaining it was another matter. Trying to snatch it from Faust would be suicidal.
They had to play by Faust's rules.
Eric then began to examine the description of the Epic Level item.
