Chapter 339 Everyone Is an Enemy

"What the heck is going on in Silvervale City?" Eric muttered as he watched the rowdy crowd. "Did they spot me?"

After a moment, Eric realized he wasn't their target. He had slipped into a black cloak before arriving in Silvervale City, hiding his face and ID. He hadn't told anyone about his plans, so it didn't make sense for anyone to be waiting for him at the teleportation hall. Even if they were, what could they do? The city guards in Silvervale City were no joke.

There had to be another reason for these guilds' actions.

"Interesting. Wonder what these guilds are up to," Eric thought with a smirk as he moved forward.

The Guild of Aether Wing was at the top of its game in Silvervale City, so it was natural for other guilds to feel uneasy and make moves.

The entrance to the teleportation hall was buzzing with activity, packed with members from various guilds in Silvervale City. Among them were not just third-rate guilds but also members from the Darkstar Guild and the Supremacy Alliance.

"What do you guys want? We already told you we're not interested!" a striking female knight with bright eyes and a dazzling smile said impatiently.

"Hey, don't be like that. Interest can grow. If you're not interested now, it's just 'cause you don't know us well enough yet. Give it some time, you'll come around," a level 18 male Assassin in Dark Iron Equipment said with a sly grin.

After he spoke, the dozens of players behind him tightened their blockade of the entrance, showing no intention of letting anyone through.

"Is this how guilds in Silvervale City operate?" the female knight asked, frowning.

"Haha, don't get the wrong idea. We're not forcing you to join any guilds here. If you're not interested, you just need to pay us a service fee of 5 silver coins. After all, we can't let our efforts go unrewarded," the male Assassin said with a cold smile.

"You... you're pushing it too far!"

The female knight was furious and drew her sword and shield. Though her gear was a mix of common and bronze items, her level 17 status was not to be underestimated.

Most players in Silvervale City were around level 13, with only a few reaching level 14. Veteran players might be at level 15, and those above level 16 were considered elite within their guilds.

For a solo player to reach level 17 it was a testament to their skill.

"Want to fight? Go ahead, I'm right here. Hit me if you can," the male Assassin taunted, even moving closer to the female knight's blade.

"You're shameless!"

Though enraged, the female knight didn't strike. This was inside Silvervale City, and attacking first would mean being arrested or even killed by the guards. But with so many people blocking the entrance, there was no way out.

Paying the fee was also out of the question.

They had already spent most of their money just to get here, and now these guilds were demanding 5 silver coins each, which was nearly half of an average player's savings.

"Turtledove, don't get worked up," a burly male warrior said, stepping in to stop the female knight.

"SwordShadow, they're being too much. I have to teach them a lesson, even if it means getting arrested," Turtledove said, looking determined.

"Even if you fight, it won't solve anything. We're new to Silvervale City and have no reputation here. But they do. They have enough standing in Silvervale City that if we attack them, they can retaliate without facing any consequences," SwordShadow, the Berserker, explained.

"Seems like you know a thing or two," the male Assassin sneered. "You're right. Many of us have the status of Silvervale City citizens, and some are even first-class citizens, just a step away from nobility. You know what that means, right?"

Citizens of any city enjoyed special privileges. In Silvervale City, if a player clashed with a citizen without causing harm, the guards wouldn't intervene. Attacking a first-class citizen, especially if the attacker wasn't a city resident, would result in severe penalties.

If Turtledove attacked a first-class citizen, she would face serious consequences. The citizen could even kill her and only face a temporary detention and a fine, which could be covered by the player's gear if they couldn't pay.

Realizing this, Turtledove was relieved she hadn't acted impulsively.

"Do you think you can leave just by not fighting?" the male Assassin mocked. "What if we have first-class citizens attack you?"

"You're despicable!" Turtledove retorted coldly. "We came to Silvervale City to join the Guild of Aether Wing. Aren't you afraid they'll come after you?"

"Haha, the Guild of Aether Wing? So what? I'm from the Darkstar Guild. Even if the Guild of Aether Wing has potential, they're no match for us now. If they dare to openly oppose us, that would be a real surprise," the male Assassin scoffed. "And don't forget, there are other guilds here too."

"You're fools to be lured here by a new guild like Aether Wing. Do you think Silvervale City belongs to them?"

"Just our Darkstar Guild is enough to make Aether Wing tremble. And there are seven third-rate guilds and over ten guilds with more than three thousand members here. Even if Aether Wing had ten times the courage, they wouldn't dare anger us all."

"Or do they want to make enemies of everyone?"

Hearing this, Turtledove felt disheartened.

Aether Wing was a new guild. Though powerful, it was still just one among many in Silvervale City. The city had millions of players, and the largest guilds weren't the top six but the numerous smaller ones. These guilds, though only three to five thousand strong individually, were numerous and collectively far outnumbered the top six.

If all these major guilds united, even the top six guilds wouldn't stand a chance.

With so many guilds united here, how could Aether Wing dare to oppose them?

Realizing this, Turtledove grew anxious.

"Turtledove, this is my fault for not thinking it through. I'll distract them while you make a run for it. Once you're out of the teleportation hall, they can't do anything," SwordShadow whispered.

"No, we'll face this together. Losing levels and gear isn't the end of the world," Turtledove said, gripping her sword tighter.

"Admirable courage, but you picked the wrong time. Everyone, show them our hospitality," the male Assassin ordered, a mocking smile on his lips.

But before the three first-class citizens could reach SwordShadow and Turtledove, a shadow darted out, blocking their path.

It was Eric, cloaked in black.

"Enemies everywhere?"

"Darkstar Guild dares to boast like this? Aren't you afraid of biting your tongue?"

"Do you really think Silvervale City is under Darkstar Guild's control?"
