Chapter 405 Skills Are Useless

Violet Mistflow's confident smile was driving Scarlet up the wall. She was dying to know what Violet was thinking but had no choice but to watch the arena helplessly.

Isabella, on the other hand, stayed calm and quietly observed Violet Mistflow.

Before, Isabella had only given Violet a passing glance because of the SpiritSnake incident and hadn't paid much attention. Now, as she took a closer look, she noticed that despite Violet's lively and harmless appearance, there was an indescribable sense of pressure coming from her. This pressure was different from GrayWolfSkyborne's.

GrayWolfSkyborne felt like a sleeping wolf—cold, ruthless, and sharp.

Violet Mistflow, however, gave off a vibe Isabella couldn't quite put her finger on. It was like the night sky—silent, vast, and profound.

"Who exactly is this girl Kai Blackthorn brought in?" Isabella trusted her sharp instincts, which had never let her down, especially since she started playing Divine Realms: Legends. They had only gotten sharper.

Violet Mistflow noticed Isabella's attention and simply nodded at her with a playful smile.

In the arena, Eric and FlyingSerpent faced each other, both sizing up their opponent.

Both were Swordsmen, but the difference lay in their levels. Eric was at level 22, while FlyingSerpent was at level 24. The two-level gap, combined with FlyingSerpent's mastery of the combat technique Eye of Observation, which greatly enhanced his perception, made it seem like a one-sided battle in FlyingSerpent's favor.

However, as the signal for the fight sounded, FlyingSerpent remained motionless, like a meditating monk, showing no intention of charging at Eric.

"FlyingSerpent, what are you doing?"

"Why aren't you moving?"

Jake and the others were puzzled by FlyingSerpent's behavior. Normally, FlyingSerpent was a battle maniac, charging in like a madman as soon as the fight started. Today was different.

"FlyingSerpent truly has exceptional talent," GrayWolfSkyborne remarked, watching the still FlyingSerpent with a faint smile.

"What do you mean, GrayWolfSkyborne?" SpiritSnake asked, confused.

"Combat isn't just about physical state; it's also about mental state. Maintaining the right balance of calm and excitement is the best state for fighting. FlyingSerpent is adjusting his mindset," GrayWolfSkyborne explained slowly.

As GrayWolfSkyborne explained, FlyingSerpent's excitement faded, replaced by a clear focus in his eyes, indicating he was ready for optimal combat.

Suddenly, FlyingSerpent drew his twin swords and charged at Eric with a powerful step.

As the first apostle of Devouring Serpents, FlyingSerpent's equipment was top-notch. He wielded two long swords, one Obsidian Level and the other Adamantite, and his gear was mostly Adamantite, making him one of the best-equipped players in Divine Realms: Legends.

Covering the 20-yard distance in an instant, he launched a rapid attack.

He had no intention of playing around with Eric.

But Eric, facing FlyingSerpent's swift assault, calmly drew his Abyssal Blade and Infernal Shadeblade, leaning forward and lightly swinging his swords, ready to counter.

Suddenly, the atmosphere in the arena changed, sending chills down everyone's spine.

"What... what's happening?"

Isabella felt it clearly; the sensation came from Eric in the arena.

"Who is this Kai Blackthorn? Why does just seeing him ready to fight make me shiver?" Jake stared at Eric in shock.

Just by assuming a battle stance, Eric had intimidated everyone in the arena, causing hearts to race and a deathly silence to fall, as if the entire arena had been swallowed.

FlyingSerpent, facing Eric's intimidating presence, stopped abruptly like a deer caught in headlights.

Even FlyingSerpent himself couldn't figure out why he had hesitated.

Realizing his mistake, he charged at Eric again.

"Impressive courage," Eric remarked, nodding with a faint smile at FlyingSerpent's actions.

Though Eric's voice was soft, FlyingSerpent's sharp senses picked it up clearly, which only fueled his anger. He used Wind-chasing Sword, increasing his speed and slashing at Eric.

But as FlyingSerpent entered attack range, Eric swung his sword even faster.

The Abyssal Blade flashed like lightning, aiming for FlyingSerpent's neck. But surprisingly, the strike missed as FlyingSerpent's upper body vanished from Eric's view.

Upon closer inspection, FlyingSerpent had leaned back, dodging Eric's lethal strike.

"Too bad," FlyingSerpent sneered.

Before he could finish his sentence, his twin swords were already aimed at Eric's side, attacking from a tricky angle, making it impossible to avoid.

Eric had no choice but to activate Swordsoar Ascension, blocking the strikes and creating distance.

"What's going on? FlyingSerpent dodged such a fast strike?" Scarlet, considering herself a skilled player with excellent dynamic vision, found Eric's previous strike perfect and incredibly fast, seemingly impossible to dodge. Yet FlyingSerpent had done it and even hit Eric twice. It was baffling.

In the arena, Eric looked at the spots where he had been hit and then at FlyingSerpent's smug smile, speaking slowly, "I didn't expect you to hide your true speed so well."

"As the first of the twelve apostles and a Swordsman, my reaction speed is naturally fast," FlyingSerpent replied with a smile. "But I'm surprised by you. You managed to use Swordsoar Ascension immediately. Your reaction isn't slow either."

"No, that's not what I meant," Eric shook his head. "More precisely, your neural reaction speed is incredibly fast, allowing you to dodge my strike."

"Yes, you figured it out quickly," FlyingSerpent said, slightly surprised but unconcerned. "But what can you do about it? Can you counter it?"

"Isabella, what are they talking about?"

In the audience, many had heard their conversation. Scarlet, completely confused, looked at Isabella, who seemed to understand, and asked curiously.

"You saw Eric's strike earlier. It was perfect, yet FlyingSerpent dodged it. Do you know why?" Isabella said, her expression serious.

"Didn't FlyingSerpent sense Eric's attack and dodge it?" Scarlet was still puzzled.

"That's part of it."

"But sensing is one thing; dodging is another. Given Eric's speed and the close distance, even the best Assassins couldn't dodge that strike. Yet FlyingSerpent did."

"The reason is FlyingSerpent's neural reaction speed. When people act, their brains go through recognition, understanding, and response. This process takes about 0.3 seconds for an average person, and around 0.15 seconds for top sprinters."

"No matter how much one trains, the neural signal transmission speed won't go below 0.1 seconds. But FlyingSerpent's reaction speed is around 0.07 or even 0.06 seconds, far exceeding the average. This means while an average person can make three or four moves in a second, FlyingSerpent can make over ten."

"That's why FlyingSerpent not only dodged Kai Blackthorn's strike but also countered with two of his own."

"This isn't something that can be achieved through skill or effort; it's a matter of talent..."

"FlyingSerpent is truly a combat genius!"
