Chapter 391 Underwater Secrets
"This pool is no joke. It's not just cold, it's like air, super light. I got 60 points of ice resistance, which is pretty high, but my hand still froze solid," Eric muttered, staring at his hand, now an ice sculpture. "What kind of water is this?"
In Divine Realms: Legends, 60 points of ice resistance usually meant you could handle most cold environments without any issues.
But this small pool was proving to be an exception, showing its extraordinary nature.
Eric couldn't shake the feeling that there was something unusual about this pool.
He pulled out Dolan's key from his backpack, hoping it might trigger some reaction.
However, after circling the pool with Dolan's key in hand, there was no response, and he couldn't find any place to insert the key.
"Could it be inside the pool?" Eric pondered, thinking it was highly likely.
In the previous version of Divine Realms: Legends, stats showed that most adventures and treasures were hidden in dangerous places. Only a few could be found in safe areas, and those required either a high status or sheer luck.
These dangerous places were essentially no-go zones for players. Without the right countermeasures, entering them meant certain death.
The small pool in front of him was clearly one of these dangerous places, making it impossible for players to enter without freezing to death.
Eric's 60 points of ice resistance allowed him to touch the water without immediate fatal damage, but his hand still froze, taking over ten seconds to thaw.
If Eric jumped into the pool, his entire body would freeze. Although he wouldn't take damage, the water was so light that he would sink like a stone, eventually drowning.
"What should I do now?" Eric stared at the icy water, deep in thought. "If only I could boost my magic resistance."
Boosting magic resistance was tough. At this stage, players didn't have access to magic resistance gear, and even if they did, it wouldn't be very effective. Eric's 60 points of ice resistance came from his Frost Azure Flame and Golden Holy Mark. Most top players would be lucky to have 10 points.
The quickest way to boost magic resistance was by drinking magic resistance potions. Even a basic potion could significantly increase resistance. A mid-level potion, combined with his current resistance, might just be enough to handle the icy water.
But Eric didn't have any magic resistance potions on him.
The recipes for basic magic resistance potions only dropped in level 20+ maps, and mid-level potion recipes in level 40+ maps.
Eric had no way to get them, let alone specialized ice resistance potions.
But without entering the pool, how could he complete the remaining 30% of his quest?
Entering the pool would freeze him solid, and without ice resistance potions, he was out of options.
"The freezing effect is too troublesome. I wonder if the Illusion Realm's magic damage immunity would work," Eric thought, touching the water again and activating the Illusion Realm skill from his Ring of Illusion.
But even with Illusion Realm active, his hand remained frozen.
"Ring of Illusion doesn't work. What about the Ring of Void?"
Unwilling to give up, Eric waited a minute before switching to the Ring of Void and dipping his hand into the pool again.
This time, miraculously, his hand didn't freeze. It was still bone-chillingly cold, but bearable.
"Looks like there's still hope," Eric thought, relieved.
With the freezing effect mitigated, the rest was manageable. The cold was painful, but Eric believed he could endure it.
He used Phantom Slay, leaving a clone by the poolside for 40 seconds. If anything went wrong, he could switch places with the clone, providing a safety net.
Then, Eric jumped into the pool.
Water splashed half a meter high as Eric plunged in. The water was so light that he sank quickly, the light fading as he descended, like falling into a bottomless pit.
The moment he entered the pool, it felt like he was in the Arctic, naked. Every movement felt like being cut by knives. An ordinary person would have screamed in agony, but Eric gritted his teeth, staying silent.
As he sank deeper, the cold intensified. Even someone as strong-willed as Eric turned pale, his eyes bloodshot, unable to make a sound. The pain was excruciating.
"How deep is this pool?" Eric checked the time. He'd been descending for nearly 10 seconds. Despite players not losing health, the mental strain was immense.
He had underestimated the cold. Lasting 40 seconds seemed impossible; even 10 seconds was pushing it.
Surrounded by darkness, Eric activated Frost Azure Flame. Even underwater, the flame burned brightly, raising the water temperature and illuminating the area.
The warmth from Frost Azure Flame brought Eric some relief, making the cold barely tolerable.
With the light, Eric saw that the pool was much larger than he had thought. It wasn't just a pool; beneath him was a courtyard!
He was about to land in the courtyard's plaza.
Eric swam faster.
The courtyard looked ancient, its architecture different from anything in Divine Realms: Legends. If not for the icy water, it would be a mythical paradise, mesmerizingly beautiful.
Despite its beauty, Eric felt an intense sense of danger, the strongest he'd ever felt in the game.
System: Player has discovered the Eternal Courtyard.
"That must be it," Eric thought, spotting a large, closed spiral structure in the courtyard. He swam towards it quickly.
The place was so enchanting that even Starview Tower paled in comparison. If not for the overwhelming sense of danger, Eric would have lingered.
The closed door was made of gold, adorned with carvings depicting the fall of ancient gods. Eric even recognized the Goddess of Dawn among them.
The golden door was protected by some force, making it impossible to break. Eric didn't have time to study the carvings. He found a keyhole in the sun motif on the door, inserted Dolan's key, and turned it gently.
