Chapter 401 Eye of Observation
"What the heck is going on?"
Isabella, seated in the audience, stared intently at Jake, her mind replaying the previous sword strike over and over.
Scarlet should have blocked it, but somehow Jake's sword ended up in a completely different position.
Scarlet was equally puzzled, unable to comprehend what had happened. But she had no time to dwell on it.
Jake's strike dealt a whopping 1241 points of damage. Scarlet, already low on health, was left with just over 470 points, unable to withstand another attack from Jake.
Magic users have weak defense, low strength, and mediocre agility. If a Berserker gets close, it's game over.
Instinctively, Scarlet cast Ring of Flames, a quick-cast spell that sent a scorching ring of fire outward, repelling nearby enemies.
Jake, undeterred, swung his sword again.
Jake's Ironcleaver Sword sliced through the fire ring, but he was forced back a step, halting his assault.
Scarlet seized the opportunity to retreat while firing Ice Arrows.
"Trying to run? Die here!" Jake shouted, charging through the Ice Arrows and sweeping his sword at Scarlet.
Scarlet raised her staff to block once more.
This time, Scarlet focused entirely on the trajectory of the Ironcleaver Sword, her whole being concentrated on it.
As the Ironcleaver Sword descended toward her, Scarlet swung her staff to intercept.
But Jake smirked and struck with force.
A strange scene unfolded again...
The Ironcleaver Sword vanished and reappeared, hitting Scarlet's blind spot.
Scarlet didn't have time to be shocked before she collapsed, her vision spinning and darkening.
"Scarlet, you should understand now. Follow me, and you'll have a bright future," Jake said, looking down at the fallen Scarlet.
Scarlet tried to rise and retort, but her health had already hit zero...
The winner of the first match: Jake!
Scarlet not only lost a level but also dropped a piece of equipment and lost significant skill proficiency.
Revived, Scarlet walked dejectedly to Isabella, apologizing, "Isabella, I'm sorry..."
Losing the first match undoubtedly increased the pressure for the remaining ones. They now had to win three out of the next four matches.
"It's not your fault. Jake hid his skills well. Not only did he learn the restriction release skill, but he also mastered this bizarre new technique. Losing wasn't unjustified," Isabella comforted her. "Leave the rest to me."
"Okay," Scarlet nodded silently, tears glistening in her eyes.
Though Isabella comforted her, Scarlet couldn't forgive herself. The most unbearable part was losing so inexplicably, not even knowing how she lost.
Eric, who had been watching from afar, was equally astonished by Jake and Scarlet's match.
When did Jake become so strong?
Recalling Jake and his team's confident demeanor earlier, Eric began to understand why they had been so self-assured.
"Eric, do you know what skill Jake used? I watched for a long time but couldn't figure out the attack pattern. Jake's attack speed wasn't fast, yet his sword kept disappearing and reappearing. How can anyone defend against that?" Violet Mistflow couldn't shake off the eerie attack.
If Jake's skill was that strange, the only way to fight him would be to keep a distance and use long-range magic attacks.
"You think that's a skill?" Eric chuckled.
"Isn't it a Berserker skill?" Violet Mistflow asked, surprised.
Eric shook his head and explained, "That's not a skill. It's a combat technique from martial arts."
"Martial arts combat technique?" Violet Mistflow's mouth hung open. If anyone else had said this, she would have thought they were bragging. But coming from Eric, it had to be true.
"Jake's technique is like playing rock-paper-scissors. He starts with scissors, and Scarlet sees it, so she counters with a rock. But at the last moment, Jake switches to paper, winning the round. Scarlet can't understand why Jake used paper."
"The principle is simple, but executing it is difficult."
"You need to master the Eye of Observation, which means seeing everything objectively, not fixating on details. Jake sees Scarlet's movements, her defense positions, everything. So when Scarlet prepares to block, Jake changes his attack trajectory, hitting her blind spot. By the time Scarlet reacts, she's already hit."
"Jake also uses a technique called Second-Stage Acceleration. He attacks at partial speed, about four-tenths of his strength, only going full force when changing his trajectory. This sudden acceleration creates a visual illusion, making the brain think the sword is still following the initial path. So when you see Jake's sword disappear, it's just a mental trick."
"Scarlet lacks combat experience and martial arts training, so losing was inevitable."
Violet Mistflow suddenly understood.
Eric's explanation opened a new world for Violet Mistflow, revealing a different way to fight.
As Violet Mistflow pondered, a thought crossed her mind.
If Eric explained it so well, does that mean he can do it too?
Excited by the possibility, Violet Mistflow's heart raced.
While Eric and Violet Mistflow whispered, the second match lineup was announced.
Eric's gaze shifted to the electronic screen above the arena.
Second match: Isabella vs. BlackArrow.
Isabella was a Berserker, while BlackArrow was a Ranger. Berserkers had the advantage in close combat, while Rangers excelled in long-range attacks, better suited for forest battles. In the confined arena, Rangers were at a disadvantage, especially since Isabella's skills surpassed BlackArrow's.
But surprisingly, BlackArrow appeared calm and even disdainful, lacking the previous respect for Isabella.
As the combatants entered the arena, the countdown began.

BlackArrow immediately activated Chasing Wind Step, trying to create distance.
But Isabella's actions stunned everyone present.
