Chapter 378 Immortal Crown
A city completely under his control!
For the Guild of Aether Wing, this was like a dream come true.
Eric, who had once led the top ten city-states of ShadowForge Studios, knew all too well the immense value and advantage of owning a city.
Although Aether Wing was thriving, the lack of a stable income of credits was a significant weakness.
Other first- and second-tier guilds had the backing of wealthy corporations and conglomerates, which could continuously provide them with funds, allowing them to develop steadily without worrying about credits.
Eric could earn gold in Divine Realms: Legends through various means, but using gold to support a guild's independence was no easy task. As the guild grew and its membership increased, the demand for gold would also rise. Converting large amounts of gold into credits was not a sustainable strategy for long-term development.
But owning a city was a game-changer.
Why were so many conglomerates willing to invest vast amounts of credits into these guilds? It was all about making money.
And how did they make money?
The answer was player-built autonomous cities.
With an autonomous city, they could attract real-world investments, rent out shops, and earn a substantial amount of credits and gold, solving most of the guild's future development issues.
So, Eric was determined to secure the right to establish a city, no matter the cost.
"Alright, Sharon, I accept your terms," Eric said after a brief silence.
"Good, I knew I could count on you. Since you've agreed, our contract is now in effect." Sharon nodded and drew a silver rune in the air, which then imprinted itself on the back of Eric's hand. "This mark is a Soul Seal, used to absorb Immortal Souls. What I need you to do is collect ten thousand Immortal Souls."
"Collect Immortal Souls?" Eric exclaimed in shock. "You want me to kill ten thousand Heaven's Favored?"
Heaven's Favored, known to NPCs as players, were immortal beings who could respawn indefinitely, losing only experience points. This was because their souls were undying, making them essentially immortal.
To obtain an Immortal Soul, a player's body had to die first. The requirements were stringent: the level difference between the players couldn't exceed five levels, the kill had to be done personally, and the distance between the two players couldn't exceed ten yards at the time of death. Otherwise, the Immortal Soul couldn't be absorbed.
For NPCs in Divine Realms: Legends, this was forbidden magic. If discovered, both NPCs and players would hunt down the perpetrator relentlessly.
Absorbing an Immortal Soul meant the player couldn't log into Divine Realms: Legends for a significant period, a punishment far worse than death.
"I didn't expect you to know what an Immortal Soul is. Yes, I need you to personally kill Heaven's Favored and collect Immortal Souls," Sharon said, slightly surprised that Eric knew but not intending to hide it. "I know this task is difficult, but without Immortal Souls, we can't repair the Immortal Crown."
"The Immortal Crown was originally a Holy Relic used to suppress all evil. However, it was damaged during the last suppression of the Abyssal Rift Valley. We've gathered all the other repair materials at Starview Tower, except for Immortal Souls. Initially, I intended to use your Immortal Soul for a slow repair."
"But the Abyssal Rift Valley suddenly opened, and its power is too great. Without the Immortal Crown, we can't withstand its assault. Since you caused this disaster, it's your responsibility to fix it. To quickly repair the Immortal Crown, we need a large number of Immortal Souls. I don't want anyone else to know about this, so it's up to you alone."
"The Abyssal Rift Valley's inherent magic array won't hold for long, maybe three months at most. After that, we'll have to face a direct confrontation. So, you must collect ten thousand Immortal Souls within three months."
"Collecting that many Immortal Souls in such a short time is no easy task, so I brought you here. Starview Tower has many ancient legacies. If you pass the high-level legacy trial, collecting Immortal Souls will be much easier."
System: Player has accepted the Epic Level hidden quest "Immortal Crown," requiring the collection of ten thousand Immortal Souls within three months. Failure to do so will result in a soul curse, preventing the player from logging into Divine Realms: Legends for one month and causing a 90% reduction in all attributes for three months.
Seeing the quest prompt, Eric felt nothing but a headache.
Failure would be hell!
If he couldn't complete the quest, it would be a severe blow. Not being able to log into Divine Realms: Legends for a month would leave him far behind in levels. Even if he could log back in, a 90% attribute reduction for three months would make the game unplayable.
"Your current level qualifies you for the high-level legacy. Do you want to accept it now, or wait until you're ready?" Sharon asked patiently. "I must remind you, the high-level legacy opportunity is precious. Even I can only give you one chance. You must be sure. If you're not confident, it's best to wait."
"Obtaining a high-level legacy is as challenging as an Epic Level quest."
"If you find the high-level legacy too difficult, I can exchange it for a mid-level legacy. The difficulty will be reduced to that of a high-level quest, and you'll have three attempts."
Sharon explained patiently, and Eric understood clearly.
In Divine Realms: Legends, changing classes involved obtaining higher-level legacies. Most players undertook basic legacies by accepting quests in major cities.
A step up was the mid-level legacy, which was rare. Those who obtained it often changed to uncommon hidden classes.
Higher still was the high-level legacy, which was extremely rare. Those who obtained it could change to rare hidden classes, like the Star Sorcerer.
The highest level was the top-tier legacy, which was exceedingly rare in Divine Realms: Legends. Even Starview Tower might not have such a legacy.
In Eric's ten years in Divine Realms: Legends, he had seen very few people obtain a top-tier legacy.
After a moment of thought, Eric looked at Sharon and asked earnestly, "Sharon, can I transfer this opportunity to someone else?"
The high-level legacy didn't mean much to Eric. He had the top-tier legacy Sword in the Stone. Why would he give up a top-tier legacy for a high-level one?
