Chapter 25 Night Ranger
Everyone failed to comprehend the words spoken by Eric.
"Just a monster's roar; what's so noteworthy about it?"
Looking at the disdainful expressions of the crowd, Eric couldn't help but speak seriously, "Listen up, Infernal Roar is not as simple as you think. Later, you will advance according to my instructions. If anyone dares to make a mistake, don't blame me for kicking them out of the team directly."
After Eric's stern words, everyone became serious. No one wanted to leave the team.
"Later, Cola and I will lead the way. Ezio, you protect Oracle in the middle. Tonny, you and the summoner will be at the back. Remember, do not disrupt the formation no matter what happens. No one attacks without my command. Understood?" Eric explained the basic formation.
The reason Eric had Guardian Knight Cola lead the way was because he had Cola allocate all his free attributes to endurance. Cola's current health points reached 310, which would help him withstand pressure for a while and ease some of his burden.
The dungeon in Divine Realms: Legends was different from other virtual games' dungeons. It had high freedom and was quite extensive. Many player teams had entered the dungeon and wandered for hours without finding a single boss. Although Silent Grove Dungeon was not as vast, getting lost in the dark forest was still a possibility.
If one got lost. Eric was helpless.
The terror of Silent Grove Dungeon lay in players getting lost in the forest and eventually dying one by one in mysterious ways. Countless players in the previous life entered it, only to die repeatedly without even encountering the shadow of a monster. If they were lucky enough to encounter a small monster, the result would be a wipeout. It wasn't until many top players from various guilds returned empty-handed from Silent Grove Dungeon that everyone realized its horror. Silent Grove Dungeon was recognized as a terrifying instance that players below level 5 couldn't clear.
When ShadowForge Guild was at level 5, they organized hundreds of players to explore the dungeon in batches, finally mapping out the layout of Silent Grove Dungeon at the cost of hundreds of lives.
Silent Grove Dungeon had thirty-six paths, but only three led to the first Boss Wilmy. These three paths were determined by the sacrifice of many players. Two of them were very dangerous, leading to certain deaths without enough strength, while one had fewer minor monsters.
Led by Eric, the group entered the forest.
Upon entering the forest, they found too many paths and were unsure which one to take. However, Eric didn't hesitate and chose a path directly. The others followed closely, remaining vigilant.
After about five minutes of walking, they encountered the first monster, making everyone tense.
"Don't act rashly; follow my command," Eric shouted loudly.
It was just a level 2 elite Night Rabbit, but due to the dungeon's enhancement, its attack, defense, and health points were significantly increased, with a health pool of up to 700 points.
"Cola, go lure it over. Oracle focuses on healing. Others, don't attack until I command," Eric quickly issued instructions.
Guardian Knight Cola swallowed nervously and cautiously approached the Night Rabbit's attack range. The others were also on edge; even though it was just a level 2 elite, this was a Infernal-level dungeon.
However, their tension was unnecessary. The Night Rabbit, seeing Guardian Knight Cola, charged directly at him.
Cola smoothly lured the Night Rabbit over, all the while remaining composed. He retreated while using his shield to block the Night Rabbit's attacks. Although each of the Night Rabbit's attacks landed on the shield, the damage was significant, with each hit causing 42 points of damage. By the time Cola returned to the team, his health had dropped by a third.
The Oracle named Drowsy Sloth had good awareness. As soon as Cola entered the casting range, Drowsy Sloth immediately cast a healing spell. However, each healing only added 24 points of health, which couldn't keep up with Cola's decreasing health points.
"Eric, why aren't we attacking yet?" Tonny was getting anxious. At this point, Cola had less than a third of his health left.
Bringing an Oracle along for the dungeon was a mistake. Among the healing professions, Oracle had the weakest healing ability. However, Eric had chosen Oracle for a reason, knowing that in Silent Grove Dungeon, Oracle's advantage of being able to convert damage into healing would be beneficial compared to other healers. This was why Eric chose Oracle over a Priest.
"Wait," Eric said firmly.
As time passed, Cola continued to block the Night Rabbit's attacks with his shield, his health gradually decreasing. With only 20% health remaining, Eric still hadn't ordered an attack.
Just when everyone thought Eric was going to give up on Cola, an arrow shot out from the forest, heading towards the team's Oracle, Drowsy Sloth. Ezio didn't react in time, and Drowsy Sloth was hit in the chest, taking a significant 123 points of damage.
At that moment, Eric shouted, "Drowsy Sloth, use Life Sacrifice to transfer the damage you received to Cola. Tonny, engage the Night Rabbit, let Cola recover! Ezio will follow me, and others attack the Night Rabbit."
Despite Oracle's subpar healing abilities, Oracle had high health and two skills from the start: Life's Blessing and Life Sacrifice. Life Sacrifice allowed the caster to convert the damage taken into healing for others, giving Oracle an advantage in tackling Silent Grove Dungeon compared to other healers who lacked skills and equipment in the early stages. This was why Eric chose Oracle over a Priest.
After giving his instructions, Eric dashed into the forest.
"Do you think I'll let you escape?" Eric coldly remarked, watching the shadow sprinting through the forest.
Wind-chasing Sword!
Eric turned into a phantom and swiftly pursued.
The reason Eric didn't allow the others to attack the Night Rabbit was to use Cola as bait to draw out the mastermind behind the scenes.
While the Night Rabbit seemed formidable, it was manageable for an elite team to handle two or three of them. However, in the previous life, a level 5 elite team was wiped out entirely because of the shadow before them. This shadow used the Night Rabbit as bait to lure players into attacking, then ambushed the healers from behind. While the players were distracted by the Night Rabbit, they couldn't save the healers, resulting in a total wipeout.
If this individual wasn't dealt with in Silent Grove Dungeon, the outcome would be the same.
With the speed boost from Wind-chasing Sword, Eric quickly caught up to the shadow and blocked its path with three strikes.
Realizing escape was futile, the shadow turned around and drew two daggers to defend against Eric's attacks.
Empowered by the Abyssal Blade, Eric's strength was astonishing. He forced the shadow to retreat three steps, each step causing over ten points of damage. Finally, under the moonlight, the shadow's identity was revealed.
Night Ranger was in level 2, a special elite with health points 1458/1500.
Seeing the Night Ranger pushed back, Eric didn't give him a chance to retaliate. He immediately used Abyssal Bind, summoning nine dark iron chains to bind the Night Ranger, rendering him immobile for three seconds with a 100% defense reduction.
Thunderbolt!
Slash!
Two strikes dealt significant damage: -81, -98, -119, -124, instantly reducing a quarter of the Night Ranger's health.
Bound by the nine chains, the Night Ranger couldn't break free, enduring the hits silently for a full three seconds.
Without hesitation, Eric launched attack after attack, landing critical strikes on the Night Ranger's vital points until his health dropped to less than 700 points.
"You damned human!" The Night Ranger roared in anger, swinging his dual blades like a Stormblade, aiming at Eric.
At that moment, Ezio arrived, charging forward and stunning the Night Ranger, disrupting his Stormblade attack.
Eric took advantage of the opportunity to strike at the Night Ranger's neck with a slash. Ezio also swung his great axe.
The Night Ranger, barely conscious, managed to counter-attack, knocking Ezio back and inflicting 64 points of damage. Then, he turned his attention to Eric, swinging his blades horizontally towards Eric's neck.
Eric blocked the attack with his sword, not giving the Night Ranger a chance to strike back. He pushed the Night Ranger back and landed several more strikes until the Night Ranger was defeated.
Picking up the dropped items, Eric rushed to support Cola.
Witnessing Eric's agile movements, Ezio, who was lying on the side, was stunned. He even forgot to join the support, overwhelmed by shock.
Who knew monsters could be taken down in such a manner?
