Chapter 137 Monster

"It seems escape is highly unlikely this time. Our only option is to fight our way out."

FlameDancer heard the Martial Alliance Swordsman captain's grim assessment and bit her lip, her face clouding over.

She had come to hunt Martial Alliance members, not walk into a carefully orchestrated trap. They had barely broken through the initial encirclement, only to be cornered again. Their chances of survival were slim, and with twenty more enemies on the way, hope dwindled with each passing second.

Death now meant a severe setback. The accumulated sin value would cost them at least 2 levels, and she, as the primary aggressor, would lose 3 levels and all her equipment. Such a loss would cripple their team, potentially leading to its disbandment.

"Scared now, are you? It's too late. This was a trap set for that Kai Blackthorn character, but you walked right into it. All that fancy equipment will be ours soon enough. Brothers, attack! I'll handle the woman myself." The Swordsman captain's eyes gleamed with avarice as he leered at FlameDancer's alluring figure, licking his lips lasciviously.

Concealed in the undergrowth, Eric listened intently. He had suspected a Martial Alliance scheme but hadn't realized the trap was meant for him all along.

His time spent forging in the smithy, coupled with his altered appearance, had thrown them off his trail. They had targeted Tonny instead, hoping to draw him out.

However, their plan had two critical flaws.

First, they hadn't accounted for his demon mask, which effortlessly concealed his identity and other vital information.

Second, they had grossly underestimated his current power.

"Everyone, fight with everything you've got! If even one of us can escape, it'll be a victory!"

With a determined cry, FlameDancer launched a desperate assault, darting towards the thinnest point of the encirclement. The Berserker stationed there barely had time to react before her dagger plunged into the back of his head, stunning him. A relentless flurry of Backstab, Assassinate, and Bonecleave followed, decimating more than half his health bar.

Inspired by her relentlessness, the remainder of FlameDancer's contingent emulated her actions, striving for a pioneering advancement.

But just as they whittled down the health of several level 7 players, a blinding white light engulfed their targets, restoring their health to near full. These were no ordinary opponents; they fought with tenacity, tenaciously engaging FlameDancer's team, refusing to give an inch.

"Casters, unleash everything you've got! Priests, shields up! Rangers, mark those Assassins! Don't let a single one escape. I won't be made a laughingstock by the people of Willowbrook Town!" The Martial Alliance Swordsman captain barked orders as he charged towards FlameDancer.

The remaining six members of FlameDancer's team encountered an uneven matchup, with each contender confronting a duo or triad of relentless adversaries that appeared to have an inexhaustible repository of regenerative capabilities.

With enemy casters bombarding them from afar, two more of FlameDancer's comrades fell.

"Is this the end?" Despair welled up within FlameDancer as she witnessed her friends cut down around her.

But there was no time for grief. She was locked in a desperate struggle against three opponents, including the formidable Swordsman captain. Enemy attacks rained down relentlessly, and the constant barrage from the casters chipped away at her health. Most of her skills were on cooldown, leaving her to rely on frantic dodges to mitigate the onslaught.

"Blame yourselves for siding with that Kai Blackthorn fool. Anyone who opposes the Martial Alliance will meet an unpleasant end. But don't worry, your friend Kai Blackthorn will be joining you soon enough."

Just as the Swordsman captain savored the taste of imminent victory, a shadow materialized behind the healers, unseen and unheard.

Two streaks of sword light suddenly erupted, piercing a level 7 Priest, inflicting -397 and -542 damage in the blink of an eye. The Priest crumpled to the ground, instantly vanquished. Only then did the nearby Priests and Druids realize something was terribly wrong. Their comrade lay dead, obliterated in a single strike. The sheer power of the attack sent a wave of icy fear through their ranks.

"Enemy..." A nearby Priest managed a strangled cry before a searing pain ripped through his chest and neck. He turned to look at the Druid beside him, only to see a mirror image of his own demise.

Neither had even registered being hit. Their reactions were too slow, their minds unable to comprehend that their health bars had already plummeted to zero.

They collapsed, their vision fading to an empty gray.

"Three down." Eric's eyes glinted with cold fury as he turned his icy gaze upon the remaining casters.

With his current attack power, even against cloth-wearing classes of the same level, Eric could eliminate them with two swift strikes. He didn't even need to activate Frost Azure Flame for its damage boost or utilize any skills.

His Shadow Step ability, enhanced by his current attributes, was practically effortless, allowing him to move like a phantom. And with each swing of his Silverlake Gleam, the damage amplified. At full speed, he could obliterate cloth-wearing opponents in a single blow, transforming him into a whirlwind of death on the battlefield.

Players who hadn't activated their extraordinary state stood no chance against his lightning-fast assaults. Only those who could react in time, primarily melee classes like the Swordsman captain, had a prayer of survival, and even then, it was a slim one.

Eric unleashed Wind-chasing Sword, propelling himself towards the nearest Martial Alliance Elementalist.

"Are the healers asleep? Why the hell aren't we being healed?" A low-health Martial Alliance Assassin roared in frustration.

His cries went unanswered. FlameDancer seized the opportunity, unleashing a three-star charged Bonecleave, ending the Assassin's tirade permanently.

The commotion finally registered with the rear-guard casters, and they turned to assess the situation. Causing trouble now would only hasten their demise.

However, as they pivoted, a transient shadow traversed their necks, succeeded by a bolt of azure light puncturing their flanks. Their vitality plummeted, their vision succumbing to darkness as death encompassed them.

Leaving the lifeless Elementalist behind, Eric dashed towards the remaining casters.

"Captain, we're under attack! It's a monster!" A Summoner in the distance caught a glimpse of the carnage but couldn't make out the attacker. The sight of a level 7 Elementalist obliterated in an instant sent chills down his spine. He shrieked in terror, his voice laced with panic.

"Can't you see I'm busy? Deal with it yourselves!" The Swordsman captain snarled, his attention solely focused on FlameDancer. He couldn't be bothered with reports of wild monster attacks at a time like this.

When the Summoner's cries went unanswered, the Swordsman captain assumed he was handling the situation and redoubled his efforts against FlameDancer.

Unbeknownst to him, the Summoner lay dead at Eric's feet, alongside three other casters who had attempted to flee. Eric's name blazed a bloody red, a testament to the carnage he had unleashed.

Only three members of FlameDancer's team remained, their health precariously low. The Martial Alliance still had nine melee fighters, all with more than half their health remaining.

"Captain, something's wrong! I'm at half health, and the healers haven't healed me!" A Berserker shouted in alarm.

"Damn it, healers, what are you playing at? Do you want to be kicked out of the guild?" The Swordsman captain finally noticed the lack of healing and roared in fury.

But his words were cut short as a cold shiver ran down his spine. He instinctively rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding three sword shadows that ripped through the air where he had been standing.

His two companions were not so fortunate. Eric's dual swords pierced their backs, sending them crashing to the ground, their eyes wide with shock and disbelief.

The Swordsman captain, the highest-ranking member present, felt a chill grip his heart. The ability to instantly kill two of his men without resorting to skills was simply unfathomable.

"Who are you? Why are you attacking us?" The Swordsman captain forced the words out, his voice trembling with a fear he struggled to conceal. "Do you know who we are? We're the Martial Alliance. Leave now, and I'll let you live."

The response came from behind him.

"I'm here to kill every last one of you Martial Alliance scum."

The Swordsman captain spun around, his face draining of all color. The mysterious figure who had been in front of him a moment ago now stood behind him, a cold smile playing on his lips.

Before he could even scream, Eric struck. His Abyssal Blade wreathed in shadows, plunged into the Swordsman captain's chest, inflicting over 700 damage. The captain's health bar vanished in an instant.

Silent Stride, followed by a single, devastating Slash, had ended the level 8 Swordsman captain's reign of terror.

FlameDancer, watching from a distance, was dumbstruck. The Swordsman captain, who had been a match for her in skill and power, lay dead, slain in the blink of an eye.

'Was this mysterious player even human?'

'Could he be some kind of vengeful spirit haunting the world of Divine Realms: Legends?'

The remaining Martial Alliance members were paralyzed with fear.

The stranger's unnatural speed and devastating attacks filled them with primal terror.

'Is that... a player?'

'Maybe it's a monster in disguise?'

Such thoughts echoed in everyone's minds, sending chills down their spines.

Even the highly skilled FlameDancer didn't dare to move. She could only watch quietly, sweat unknowingly dripping from her forehead. Her intuition told her that if this mysterious player targeted her, her only outcome would be death.
